Lots to like about VT's chances in the opener Friday, namely that we've a tougher schedule and should be battle tested. Cal Poly had 10 games against ranked teams - USC, Oregon State, and UC Santa Barbara - and lost all of them. Both teams are relatively the same in terms of the last 20 games played with VT at 14-6 and Cal Poly at 15-5, 4 of which just came in the conference tourney. One area of concern I see is with Cal's closer Bonn who has 15 saves on the year. But, Cal Poly is 6-5 in 1-run games, and Bonn has had a couple bad outings. So... kinda feels like the theme to this one is exactly how the rest of the season has played out. If we avoid the bullpen collapse we should cruise.

Also Szefc choosing to go with Eisenreich and Grim is questionable. Unfortunately Hokies have really limited starting pitching after Renfrow. We only have 4 pitchers with sub-5 ERAs

Starting pitcher for today's game should be informative. If it's Renfrow then it's hard not to think they blew it not pitching him yesterday. If it's not Renfrow then he's probably hurt and Tech was living on a prayer since the ACC tournament.

If that's the case, it's a terrible strategy. You have to win the first game and get into the winner's bracket. You can't worry about a pitcher for game 2 without winning game 1.

Strike zone was impossibly small for VT and a little bigger for them. Probably had an affect on 2 of our batters late in the game that struck out looking on pitches that would've have even sniffed a strike for our pitchers. It is what it is but we had to throw absolute dead center to get a strike call.

Not a good weekend for the ACC. UNC is the only team that made it through with relative ease. FSU has really struggled but somehow still alive, Miami was hot then ice cold, and now GT on the verge of elimination.

is it just me or has there been more disruption to games resulting in suspended play? 2 more games yesterday (SJU/Bama and KU/OU) got held up because of the weather and wont complete until today. Given the scores I dont know that game 3 is going to be necessary for either. Which sucks, because that's going to mean 5 out of the 8 teams in Omaha are from the $EC. If it weren't for UNC making the trip, I dont think I would be planning to watch anything this weekend.

At least they made the decision to suspend them. Here in Virginia, VHSL decided to start a game at 1115pm. Richlands trailing Lebanon 4-2, Richlands was batting with 1 out and bases loaded in 7th inning. Umpires paused game at 115AM for heavy fog. Umpires called game at 215AM. No suspended game, denied appeal by Richlands to resume play. Completely ridiculous to 1. Start at 1115pm 2. Have no rule for suspended game

Wife and I are house sitting for a friend in Newport and we went to the campus to walk around the Hahn Gardens and generally look around. While waiting for her to finish up looking at the flowers and such, I was sitting reading by the center. I kept hearing the sound, recognized it and immediately got sad that I had to listen to the Hokies doing some fielding practice. Wish they'd been otherwise engaged.

Ehh OU has been no slouch. They were not even a regional host. They outscored opponents 79-34 from Regionals to now going 8-1 with a sole loss to #2 Georgia Tech. Basically averaged 9-4 wins.
