HOKIES!!

Is coronavirus over yet?

In this bar fifteen hundred miles from lane stadium, I got a lot of weird looks when they called it a goal and I let out an enthusiastic

HOKIES.

Old sigline: I've been cutting back on the drinking.

New Sigline: lol it's football season.

I was sitting next to a Packers fan (who, by the way just had his oldest child graduate high school and is going to be at VT next fall) and when I pointed out he was the son of a Hokie he was quick to correct me that Antonio Freeman played for the Packers. I politely pointed out we were both right and he bought me a beer. Win. Win.

What a rube.

Throughout my nearly 60 years of Hokiedom, I have found that Hokies can be found pretty much anywhere from a crowded bar or airport to a trout stream in the West, to other countries and yes, even in Charlottesville. We B Everywhere!

Thus, my handle on TKP.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

I have people say to me all of the time they think they know someone who is a Hokie. I stop them and tell they dont need to think...they KNOW because we aren't quiet about being proud Hokies.

I once got off a chairlift while skiing on the south island of New Zealand and was promptly greeted by a fellow Hokie.

My wife and I served in the Peace Corps in Uganda from 2017-2019. While there, we took a trip to Kigali, Rwanda where we randomly ran into some grad students from VT who just happened to know some of the same people my wife knew from when she was in grad school. Small world.

My older brother has a friend that was doing peace corps work in Kenya sometime in 2000, ended up distributing a few VT 1999 National Champions shirts. I was so jealous of those kids!

If someone found a box of those in a warehouse today, I'd pay $500 for an XL.

Sadly, I'm a 2XL guy right now and sometimes they fit tight.

I met Antonio at a Hokie football game before. He was a nice guy.

VT Football: It'll get after ya!

Proud Hokie since 2004.

As are we all ... I wish.

I have Antonio's mouthpiece from his last college game. Weirdest piece of memorabilia i own.

what's the story behind getting it?

I do art stuff.

Was at the Gator Bowl in '94. Tough loss. Bad loss in which Peyton Manning just whipped us. But we snagged front row tickets (I was a 12 year old) and Antonio tore it off and threw it in the stands. I just stared at it sitting next to me and picked it up with a napkin. Still have it.

I'm sure with a proper dental record review I could authenticate it!

That is a long time to keep a napkin.

Folding under pressure since forever.

Nice article about Alex and Antonio
