Hokies now have the #9 class with the addition of Latell
incredible. would still love to see a 5 star in their too. one step at a time tho
Used to pray for times like this dot jpeg
Disappointed we aren't averaging a commit a day so far in June.
Local 3* lineman Ethan Lawson chose WVU over VT yesterday. I hadn't seen any mention on him on here and was just curious if we cooled on him or if we missed out. He was from a very small single A school. 247 has him rated higher than the lineman we picked up yesterday. Just curious if anyone had any inside info.
https://247sports.com/player/ethan-lawson-46157713/
We have other lineman higher on the board that the staff like
Is this the one who burned a couch in the commitment video? Seemed like a culture fit for wvu
I mean when in rome
It's a baller commitment video. The energy is infectious, makes me kinda jealous even though as Primus said above there's higher guys on our board (Junior Saunders, Q'Mari Hudson)
My son just let me know that Chris Whitehead posted on HokieOrbit that he has cancelled his trip to UGA.
That's certainly a good sign for the Good Guys.
what the shit is hokie orbit
Something affiliated with RocketHokie13 would be my guess.
No, my rockets aren't orbital.
you responded to that bat signal impressively fast
What can I say? I TKP hard.
Was just trying to give you recognition :-).
Actually had thought you worked in the space industry. So are you in something like missiles for the military?
Or does he have a 'rocket in his pocket'? /s
FEEEEAT!!!
As in the Little Feat concert cry "Feeeeat"?
Just happen to be wearing this today!
The history lover in me is wondering who "Little Feet" was and why they were so excited for the Europeans to arrive.
Little Feet were the bipedal predecessors to Bigfoot...
So Little Feat is a band formed in 1969 who is still playing to this day. Little Feat's musical style is marked by an eclectic fusion of genres, incorporating elements of rock, blues, jazz, country, and funk. Early albums like Sailin' Shoes introduced a blend of country rock with folk influences, while Dixie Chicken showcased a distinctive New Orleans-inspired funk sound that became a hallmark of their style. Their front man, Lowell George, who was once part of Frank Zappas band passed away in 1979, along with several original members since. The current lineup consists of several original members and others who have been with the band for 20 years. The name Little Feat is from a comment from Zappas drummer about Lowell's 'Little feet' which they changed to 'Feat' in homage to the beatles. Waiting for Columbus is a live album considered by many to be one of the top 5 live albums of all time, recorded over 3 nights in 1977 at the Rainbow theater in London and the Lisner auditorium in DC including the 'tower of power' horn section. If you've never heard the album, you really should give a listen. You won't be disappointed. I was lucky enough to see them a few years ago while they were on tour celebrating the 45th anniversary of the release by playing the entire double album verbatim. I also saw them in 1989 or so at Burress Hall in a split bill with the allmans. I camped out for tickets and had ticket number 0001. As far as the meaning behind the title 'waiting for columbus', this link explains it better than I ever could.
https://www.google.com/search?q=meaning+behind+waiting+for+columbus&oq=&...
Describe little feat in one word. Badass
I also saw them in Burress in '89, though I was probably closer to row 30, right center. That auditorium is great place to see a concert. And they put on a great show - much better than the Allman's that night.
They blew away the Allmans for sure.
I saw the Allman Brothers in Burruss in 1990 from their Seven Turns tour. They rocked the Burruss out. It was a great show.
Burruss is a great venue for concerts. Saw Springsteen there in early 70's. Lot's of dancing in the seats.
I saw Elvis Costello at Burrus. Great show.
I saw Golden Earring at Pucillo Gymnasium. Great Show.
April 1976 @ Burruss. I still have the ticket stub.
Great shirt! I was at Lisner that night when that seminal live album was partially recorded! I've seen them many times over the years, many in the mid-late 70's.
They just played here on the Cape last night during what is being advertised as their farewell tour, sadly I missed it.
I work for a defense contractor, yes.
VT fan instagram acct. Not sure if they 'break' news, but they're usually the first I hear about signings and stuff (I'm not on twitter much, never been on 247, these days, and stuff seems to be there before it's shared here or TSL)
Oh boy. When is his commitment scheduled?
Put this kid on the Blacklist
3 🌟 WR Arnold Mugerwa
Man we've been the subject of some weird trolling lately
I see this less as trolling and more a refresh on the 3 hats thing. It was clear when he still had another shirt on he wasnt picking VT
At least our name is showing up more and more. Something to be said for that.
Really Rutgers??? What blackmail photos does Schiano have?
I might be selfish, but I don't wanna kid that can't take a shirt off
Careful
Ya that sounds worse than I meant it....
How about: "I don't want a kid that's not that coordinated"
I want to TWSS this but you're only making it worse.
I know what you meant, it just cracked me up lol.
He is definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed.
Don't love that VT was among the trolled of course, but it's a funny way to troll folks and I enjoyed it. If he'd chosen VT we'd all be laughing and commending him.
It looks bad to troll teams that our down, so I take this as a sign that people are worried about us. No one trolled Vandy or indiana for decades cause they were irrelevant, this means we're relevant
This spring we have been very visible in the recruiting space. Whether that translates into on-the-field results is yet to be seen, but the recruits are at least aware of us in a way that has probably been lacking the last decade or so
I should have read the whole thread before I posted above. I'll help myself to a Blue Moon to pay my penance.
Rivals reporting that Cam Wade just committed to the good guys
https://www.on3.com/rivals/news/4-star-wr-cam-wade-commits-to-virginia-tech/
So.... 10 mins after Wade committed, the Franklin signal went up again....
Yall want another 4 star?
I'm picturing you asking this while wearing a trench coat in a dark alley
Dang. Would be a hell of a profile picture. A hokie bird wearing a trench coat standing in a alleyway and with a pocket labeled "Four Stars" and he is reaching for the pocket 😤🤣
Impressively fast🤣❤️
AI is out of control......
Side note, we need to make that old-timey Hokie themed cocktail bar a reality
Meant to post this here.
The thing that's fascinating to me is that we have the #9 class right now with a total score of 219. Now, I know this class is still in progress, so it's not apples to apples, but 219 would be good for the 34th best class in 2019 (the last true pre-covid, pre-NIL, pre-unlimited transfers class).
It's just cool to see that NIL is truly leveling the playing field (at least amongst the top 30-50 programs)
That's in the past LOL; we are #7 overall now with 222.98 and an average recruit rank of 88.62! Good for second overall in the ACC as recruit ranks go and barely beat by Clemson for 2nd who has us by 1 recruit (21 to 22).
With Bryce Woods committing. Hokies are up to 7th
Point still stands: In the old days, there was no way VT could beat out UGA and Bama for croots. NIL has changed the game and we are benefiting.
The current lowest rated prospect of our 2027 class is rated by the 247 Composite at .8650.
In 2026, not counting special teams, it was .8511, with another at .8633, below the .8650 of this year
In 2025, it was .8470, with 5 others below .8650.
In 2024, it was .8575, with 2 below .8650.
In 2023, it was .8263, with 13 below .8650.
In 2022, it was .8378, with 11 below .8650 (Pry's First Class)
In 2021, it was .8178, with 20 below .8650 (Fuente's Last Class)
In 2020, only 3 prospects were ABOVE .8650
In 2019, 9 were below .8650
In 2018, 10 were below .8650
In 2017, (Fuente's First Full Class) it was 17 below .8650
In 2016, (Final Beamer Class), it was 16 below .8650.
We are in uncharted territory.
good lord that 2020 class was rough. no wonder the seasons after that were no bueno
I think we can see that Pry was starting to raise the floor in his last two classes. The problem was the upper-classmen, who you would expect to be the leaders just weren't blue chip.
All croots got a bump today. Now the lowest rated is .8700.
2026: 3 were lower.
2025: 7 were lower.
2024: 4 were lower.
2023: 19 were lower.
2022: 14 were lower.
2021: Only 2 were above .8700 (DJ Harvey, Jack Hollifield)
2020: Only 2 were above .8700 (Alec Bryant, Robert Wooten)
2019: 12 were lower.
2018: Same 10 were lower
2017: 19 were lower.
2016: 17 were lower.
The entirety of the 2020 and 2021 classes that were higher rated than our lowest current recruit combined for 11 tackles, a forced fumble, a pass defended and 28 appearances on the OL (Hollifield). Effectively, our lowest rated recruit for the 2027 class has the opportunity to be more productive than the entirety of two consecutive classes ending Fuente's tenure.
Junior Saunders OT Woodberry Forest 4* is in
I'm beginning to think Franklin is putting more than Hardee's coupons in recruits welcome envelopes
You can land recruits without a hashtag. Who knew?
So looking at the last 3 classes, counting transfers, we've added Composite 4*s in the following positions:
QB: 4
RB: 3
WR: 9
TE: 4
OT: 4
DL: 5
LB: 3
DB: 7
That's 39 x 4* recruits in 3 classes.
Is this real life?
If we can add Whitehead and Black, this class will be unreal
That would put us at #4, with only Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Miami ahead of us, in striking distance of #2.
Hey, quick question. When you say OT: 4, is that, literally offensive tackle or is that meant to be offensive linemen overall? Seeing so many WR and QBs but so few OL (and maybe no guards or centers) is really skewed. Would think no more than 2 of those QBs will stay around and see extended time playing for VT and many of those WR will not stick around or pan out.
Is great for depth as you know not everyone will develop. But would love to see more OL relative to WR or QB where you are playing 5 OL vs. 2 or 3 WR vs. 1 QB.
Also, it's well-documented on here that it is hard to grade linemen, so maybe I should not be worried by this. But still, seems really skewed.
Keep in mind that we also picked up a ton of young OL (11 Fr or rFr in 2026) and currently have 21 on the roster for 2026, 18 of which will be returning in 2027 (assuming no transfers)
• Johnny Garrett (r-Sr.)
• Montavious Cunningham (r-Sr.)

• Lucas Austin (r-So.)
• Aidan Lynch (r-So.)
• Tommy Ricard (r-So.)
• Justin Terry (r-So.)
• Justin Bell (r-Fr.)
• Gavin Crawford (r-Fr.)
• Michael Troutman III (r-Fr.)

For the most part high school guards don't play d1. If they were good enough they'd play tackle in high school because unless its middle run heavy they want the guys with speed on the out side. So just because we tack an OT doesn't mean they will play that in college, the slower ones move inside.
That should be OL
Add some OL (and LB), and that's almost a fucking two-deep full of four-stars!
I certainly hope so!
Tremendous weekend!
Fun fact that may only interest me: NC State got a commitment from OL Colt Hauser, which is Cole Hauser's (aka Rip from Yellowstone) son
You mean Benny from Dazed and Confused!
The lack of up-votes here tells me there are a whole lot of kids and/or a whole lot of retirees on this particular thread....
Not a kid or retiree, still doesn't mean I have seen it.
Great movie. He had a pretty small role, but man that cast was loaded.
Also the truck he drove in that movie was sweet.
McConaughey was the best in that movie though. 'Thats what I love about these high school girls' He played the college dude macking on high school girls so well.
While McConaughey was the most memorable everyone brought their A game as there wasnt a weak performance.
I dont think I realized how many recruits attend these Official Visits. VTScoop has photos in an article showing the T shirt numbers of recruits from 100 to over 500. Not sure they are sequential but if so thats an enormous effort to organize and review performances.
They also had a camp this weekend. Probably what you are looking at. We are only hosting 50ish this year
Any idea on how many more recruits we take this year and who the top targets are besides Whitehead? I'm assuming we are looking to take 2-3 LBs still.
By the current looks of things as many and whoever we want.
OV'd last weekend and someone to probably keep an eye on Noah Renes
Now the $1M (NIL) question... Can James Franklin get a 5-star recruit to commit to VT?
Or better phrased, when will he get his first 5-star recruit to commit to the good guys?
In my mind it's still an "if" and not a "when" because i need to see it happen.
But i'm starting to believe he could actually do it. I gave up hope for many years that we could land a 5 star commit but what he has done so far is so impressive i'm now like, well why couldn't he pull that off?
3.2.1...
Not sure if C. Whitehead counts, but if he does, there is at least rumors that he canceled UGA because VT visit was good. No idea if it's true, but Google's AI is suggesting it is true (likely picking it up off message boards).
Gemini search and response:
His 247 composite is 5-star but none of the individual sites rate him as a 5-star. Not sure how that happens but here is a quick summary:
Interestingly, Rivals and 247 say they compute their composite the same (e.g., 33% for each major ranking site), but the results are not the same.
Links: ESPN -- Rivals/On3 -- 247 Sports
My understanding is that:
.
I think this he was saying none of the services have him in the top 32 but the composite showed him in the top 32. Should be impossible.
Bar's example explains how it's possible. Whitehead being consistently rated at 33, but 1 or 2 other players being top 32 in on3/rivals, ESPN, or, 247 rankings, but lower on another service dropping them out of a five star composite rating and letting Whitehead sneak in.
An alternative explanation is that it's ESPN's fault /s
Edit: That being said there are currently thirteen 247 5 stars listed for the 2027 class and thirty-nine listed for the 247 composite (with Whitehead coming in at 34). Rivals has eighteen 5 stars, but thirty-two based on their industry(composite) rating (with Whitehead coming in at 46). Clearly they weigh things slightly different, it's probably still ESPN's fault though.
"Clearly they weigh things slightly different, it's probably still ESPN's fault though."
But weights weigh the same.
And can definitely still be ESPN's fault.
Turns out that weights don't actually weigh the same for recruits, who'da thunk that.
This was my basic point. On a superficial level, the math did not seem to be mathing.
Bar's point is correct. That if there is enough variation in recruit score in the other player rankings that pull them down, he does get to 5-star level. But, it doesn't seem like that's what is happening here. idk.
After looking into each service's rankings you're right, IDK exactly what they are doing. I assume the services leave room to elevate some 4 stars to 5 stars at the conclusion of their senior season, but it does look like there too many composite 5 stars compared to 5 stars at each individual service.
Either way 🤞 tech gets themselves a 5 star one way or another.
If we have an above average season, I could see Franklin pulling a 5-star flip on signing day.
Yeah, that's my thought. Not this year. Maybe next year or the year after that.
I am hoping for somewhere between 7-5 and 9-3. Nine and three would require everything gelling far quicker than anticipated.
I'm thinking more 7. Waaaay too much travel and first year stuff. Good transfers but gotta get everybody from Frosh to reamaning guys and transfers all on the same page.
My hope - and I'd be borderline overjoyed with this outcome - is:
(1) Go 6-5, couldn't care less which teams we beat and which we lose to
(2) Beat Virginia to get to 7-5
(3) Win a bowl game to go 8-5, couldn't care how piss-ant a game it is or who it is against, just win our first bowl game in years and finish strong on a high note
Now you add all that new talent coming in from Franklin's first class getting to start seeing the field in the 2027 season and the likely good group of transfers coming in and you really can feel like the sun is rising.
My thoughts on the schedule. I think there are at least 6-7 games where we should be the favorite pre-season. There are at least 2 toss up games, and three losses.
VMI - W, Should be a blowout.
Old Dominion - W. Hope for a blowout
Maryland - W.
@Boston College - W.
Pitt - Toss Up.
@California - W
Georgia Tech - Toss up, underdog
@Clemson - L. Underdog
@SMU - L. Underdog
Stanford - W
@Miami - L
Virginia - W.
Is Clemson going to be anything decent this year?
TBD. Dabo finally started using the portal. Took 10 this season. Probably depends a lit on how Vizzina does at QB. He has been Klubnik's backup for 3 years. If he couldn't beat out Klubnik, I have doubts.
https://247sports.com/player/amarri-irvin-46142805/
Read that Notre Dame is thinking this LB flips to us. Any ideas from those in the know?
Sounds like a good chance from what i've been reading
That would not suck
VT Recruiting class ranking:

Meanwhile under Fuente...
(couldn't get the actual post from imgur to load but the link works)
So many recruiting bumps today. It's like opposite day every day with the program now
12 composite 4 stars now and 6 using the 247 rankings only....7 for on3 only,
As other posters have noted, 247 released their updated Top 250 rankings for 2027. Impacts to VT commits are discussed at this LINK. Summary below:
Peter Borque: Grade 92 to 94, Now #75 Overall
Jordan Karhoff: Grade 90 to 93, Now #93 Overall
Dylan Latell: Grade 86 to 91, Now #142 Overall (HUGE move)
Kaden Buchanan: Grade 90 to 90, Now #169 Overall
Joseph Bucanan: Grade 90 to 90, Now out of Top 250
Bryce Woods: Grade 90 to 88, Now out of Top 250
I wonder what happened with Bryce Woods. Did they think he committed to the pre-JMFF Virginia Tech?
Its strange. Was listening to one of the YouTube VT channels and they were really high on him They said he was a target for the tOSU. Maybe there's residual VT effect b/c he didnt commit to tOSU.
man the dunking on the one school and going to the other is quite old.
True. But not gonna lie, at least we're relevant enough to be a hat on the table. I'd rather be faked out than not even be in the conversation.
Not to mention, it feels like a bit of a surprise when we are not selected. Anytime from about 1 to maybe 8 or 10 years ago, we'd be 95% confident that they would pick the other team.
You can't win them all. But unlike under the prior JF, we do win quite a few of them.
Get Sorsby's lawyers and sue him for irreparable harm and injury to the brand
Sorry, this is chump behavior.
Honestly, I don't wanna kid whose mom doesn't know how to take her shirt off....
Easy there, Galen
I appreciate what you did here lmao
As do I
The fake outs don't sting even a little bit now that we're getting players
I don't want him, I want the #1 recruit in VA! This isn't a loss, more like a "Good, now we have room for the DE from VA that is #1 in the state and the LB from ND."
Hokies has received three cbs this morning for Turmarian Moreland. A high three star athlete (Probably another DB) From Florida. Had official visits to Tech and Auburn. And has one lined up to uga this weekend. But if he commits. I doubt that visit happens.
He has committed to VT
Just picked up a 3* athlete out of Florida - Turmarian Moreland. Picked us over Auburn. Don't have time to start a new thread someone feel free.
*edit to add see above
247 link
But did he do a fakeout with a Tech shirt underneath an Auburn shirt underneath a jacket??
JK awesome news
I hope not.
I'm surprised to see unc-ch near the bottom of ACC recruiting rankings (just ahead of uva, behind fsu!)
They were always good for taking some eastern VA players away.
JMFF representing in the state and going into NC is making a difference. (Plus other things....)
UNC-CH?
UNC Chapel Hill?
UNC CHeat?
Both.gif
It's almost like Bellicheat has only been able to adapt to the off the field side of college athletics with the co-eds.
Not to be a buzzkill, but Qmari Hudson (247 profile) committed to Tennessee yesterday. I guess we can't win every recruiting battle.
Irvin in the house
Pry has a fun new toy.
GOT 'EEM!!!
The 2027 class now has 25 recruits, how many more do you think they will take?
15?
Heard Chris Coleman say recently that he expected between 4-6ish depending on who it is.
I do wonder how the Franklin and staff plan to handle the roster. There are 105 spots.
Current Roster:
20 Seniors/RS seniors/graduates
19 Juniors/RS Juniors
33 sophomores/RS sophomores
24 RS freshman
16 enrolled freshman
6 signees
112 on the roster currently with 6 signees to join. Already over roster limit by 13.
For next year, there are only 20 currently on roster with 1 year of eligibility. 25 signees is already a net 5-player surplus without portal additions.
The numbers always work out? It'll be interesting to see how exactly. How much attrition. How much leaving for opportunities (playing time or pay). How many of the class actually sign. etc.
6 isn't bad 2 years out. Some injuries, some move on.
My guess is that some of those Soph will get hard conversations soon. Between the low level of talent in that class range and the glut of numbers, it's prime for a transfer reduction.
Yes, but when? If we really have 118 in and coming, we need to drop 13 players, and there's not a mechanism for players to move off the roster pre-fall other than dropping football entirely.
That's a cold business to be in, and I'm not sure that I like it.
Current 247 class score: 242.84
2026: 226.24
2025: 208.19
2024: 202.60
2023: 205.58
2022: 208.77
2021: 195.94
2020: 166.34
2019: 227.09
2018: 226.01
2017: 217.74
2016: 190.06
That 2020 class ... woof
Are we surprised Pry couldn't win?
That 2020 class would have been Sophs in 2021, Juniors in 2022 (3-8), Srs in 2023 (7-6), and r-Srs in 2024 (6-7).
Add in that 2021 class, which was Fuente's last year, are we surprised at all?
Bummer.
Whitehead committed to LSU. Could see it coming with the 2nd visit scheduled but still
I am just weirdly happy that we are back to the point of being bummed about missing on a 5 because we had a realistic shot and got beat out, instead of the same conversation being about our 4th choice mid-3*
Hear hear GGC. It's better to be bummed than to be numb from constant mediocrity
Fuck Lane Kiffin.
I get GGCs sentiment but this does still hurt. I was pretty confident in this one with the momentum we had and an instant impact position but the shoe goes on because we have a solid class base.
we were in good shape until LSU missed on a couple other prospects and put those funds towards Whitehead. One of those situations like the Safety who went to WVU.
Yeah as much as I'd love a 5* doesn't make sense to pay what he's reportedly getting at LSU, feel like we can get 2 solid 4* guys with that money
If it's true that he was asking for P4 QB money, then I'm fine with letting him go.
I don't even care about missing on Whitehead because the portal every year gives and takes away (sometimes recruits missed on in earlier years) and we have a really good class anyways and are apparently over in numbers since my last question. I'd like to see us get a good balance at every position where it is talented, competitive, and deep. The ones who lose their spot I wish them well at their next stop but I want to see the floor get elevated. As long as we are in the conversation of a top 25 recruiting class, developing well, and portaling well then I can live with the misses and the transfers. Just be good, deep, and win!
Just be good, deep, and win!
Could not find the appropriate mention in the past so I'm posting it under this recruiting thread. This is the short of Cam Newton saying he considered VT simply because of the uniforms.
Also probably because it was 2005/2006 when he was being recruited and VT was pretty good back then too.
We could've won a natty with him. I truly think he was the best college football player of all time.
Yes, him and Vince Young
Could be. Our QBs were Marcus then Glennon.
I won't go as far as saying Cam was the GOAT, but we absolutely win a natty with him, yes
Name someone who's won more with as little talent around them as Cam
John McClane
Peter WarrickIn that Sugar Bowl he was the best. Wow. Still can't stand him for that.
Wait, youre saying ths guy that dresses like this:

Liked this:

Yes.
I am probably the only person here to feel this way, but I kinda dug the one orange sleeve paired with the compression shirt underneath.
Definitely not as a full-time thing but as a one-off, I liked the look.
It also harkens to a time when Nike gave a damn about VT...I know other schools did it but they were relatively few...
Shun me if you must...lol
Also when we went up to #3 for a brief moment before that dark and stormy night in Blacksburg against Miami....
I had the best seats of my life at that game. Row Y (21 rows up) on the pressbox side, right on the 50 yard line. Picked it up from a scalper.
Gameday in town, top 5 matchup, great seats, tailgate all day, was just an absolutely great day until kickoff.
What could've been. /sigh
Nah I liked it too. It seemed very cutting edge at the time
You definitely weren't the only one. I loved it.
They were great, the haters are the same people that didnt like when I sewed dress shirts together to bring some style to the board room.
Something that I think gets missed is that I think JMMF coming to VT is good for college football. This will elevate the ACC and continue spreading the wealth of high level players around the D1.
It really is going to be great for the ACC
FTFY.
I think he had it right, James Momma Mia! Franklin
Here we go again
I do like Momma Mia as an alternative ha
As we move into the next month of recruiting, a few players received updated rankings in the 247 Composite
QB Peter Bourque .9643 -> .9676
TE Jordan Karhoff .9480 -> .9471
WR Cam Wade .8988 -> .9008,
OT Junior Saunders .9008 -> .8999

what does continued recruiting of C. Whitehead in practice look like after the commitment to LSU? Also, feel like Franklin is the type to go hard at another prospect in that evaluation range in order to keep the heavy momentum going. Are there any others in that caliber he may look to go all in on?
Maybe Jayden Broadie or Peyton Bishop
not from an edge perspective, but almost / to 5star range.
Not really, unless we can leverage some flips
6 of our 7 top recruits for this cycle are players who will spend their time in the trenches (one of those 6 is a TE). I really like what we are doing right out of the gate. Set that foundation, then build everything up from there.
Good OL and DL and a QB with a quick release came make up for many ills.
