Some of my family saw it and said it was amazing. They noted if you get a chance to see it in IMAX you should. My local theater is sold out this week but I've got tickets for next week.

The guy who told me this is a huge Christopher Nolan fan and just absolutely loves movies. Total cinephile. He went in with the highest expectations, booked the ticket at an IMAX, almost a year in advance, and says that the movie surpassed all his expectations.

I'll absolutely see this on IMAX. I think it'll be a fantastic film, and it was designed for that venue.
But one thing that might affect the durability of this film is portraying Odysseus as feeling guilt over the Trojan war, which absolutely strays from any reasonable interpretation of the source material as a major theme. I haven't seen it yet, so this is just internet speculation at this point. Also, in a hundred years, will AI have beaten out cinema? Humans? In 20 years, won't you be able to design your own movies? Anyone who will be alive in a hundred years better buckle their seatbelts. I digress.

1) Nolan's best movie is The Dark Knight. It would have worked even if the antagonist and protagonist weren't comic book characters.
2) The Odyssey is an excellent movie. Cinemetography was stellar. Matt Damon captured the spirit brilliantly. Charlieze Theron is an absolute smokeshow. Pattinson did a great job of portraying the sniveling twat of an antagonist. But it also has some weak points.
a. I like Berenthal, but that was not good casting. He is a soldier, not a haughty cruel warrior-king. He struggled to sound authentic.
b. The music. I know that comes with Nolan movies, but it could have laid out to allow the exposition to take hold.
c. I thought Nolan underplayed Odysseyus hubris following his defeat of Troy and the blinding of Cyclops. The gods should have played a bigger role and been more visually present. If he wanted to make the case that the gods were superstition, then why show Athena acting as Odysseyus concious? Posiden, Ares, Apollo all have big roles in the story. Why cut them out?
d. minor detail, but Telemychus (sp?) saw another former soldier from the Trojan War (forgetting the name) before Menelaeus.

Now, if you really want me to evicserate a movie, I will come with both knives to rip Young Washington to pieces. The source material is so good and interesting, yet somehow they managed to take artistic license to make the story less interesting.
1) Christopher Gist lived on the frontier near present-day Pittsburgh. His homestead was destroyed by the Mingo and Shawnee. He left the area and died of smallpox in South Carolina.
2) Braddock was wounded, but was evacuated and died days later. Washington and Thomas Gage made the choice to bury Braddock underneath the road that still bears his name so the tribal warriors would not violate his grave.
3) Washington was close personal friends with Will Fairfax, not confrontational. His relationship with the Fairfaxs was one of the reasons he got audience with Lord Fairfax and joined James Genn's surveyor team. Washington did however continue his illicit love letters to Sally Fairfax at least until his marriage to Martha, if not until Will and Sally left on the eve of the Revolution.
4) The French and Tribal military contingent certainly did not have enough cannon to have explosions all over the place like Kenny Powers just pyroed Cambodia. At most they had a handful of small field pieces, and since the ambush took place in a heavily wooded area, any cannon would have been firing grape shot at very close range.
I could go on and on. I went because I have loved the subject matter of Washington, particularly his time on the frontier, since I was a little kid and listened to my blue and yellow Fisher Price cassette. But that movie, despite the presence of Andy Serkis and Ben Kinglsey, was a gigantic flaming turd.

My 27 yo son is going to see it. I will report back asap. I will rest my decision on his feedback just like I did with Napoleon.

Yeah, this movie was a wonder with great music and wonderful acting.
I've heard good things about it. Tempted to go to Udvar-Hazy from Richmond to see it on their IMAX.
