First, read this post by Andy Staples: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/andy_staples/09/23/florida....
FSU proved they could win a shootout, and that's a step in the right direction. However, like Staples said, there's a definite perception problem after almost a decade of not living up to the hype (blame the media). The 'Noles can only play, and be judged by the games on their schedule, and outside of Florida, VT, and maybe Miami/NC State they won't be tested.
If they go undefeated, will it be enough of a resume to jump an undefeated Oregon / Stanford or Texas / K-State / WVU? How back is FSU?

Not back enough
Oregon and West Virginia will likely run the table in their conferences, and score a metric shit ton of style points doing it. K-State and Stanford will be solid, and already have big time wins. Florida State's strength of schedule alone will keep them on the outside. And let's not forget Notre Dame. They have two major wins so far, and if that keeps up, the fan boys that run the AP poll will continue to move them up, while the ESPN blowhards continue to filate them on television.
Not so sure about WVU
They play a lot of new opponents, which makes coaching/prepping hard. They also are at a major travel disadvantage when playing on the road (but a major advantage at home) due to the long distances between WVU and the Big12 schools. They do get KState, TCU and Oklahoma at home and travel to Texas, TTech, and OKState. It's not out the realm of possibilities, but I don't think they run it.
Oregon, maybe they do run it. USC is not as a good as we thought and get Stanford at home. It's just too early to tell. The Civil War could be their downfall; Oregon State looks pretty good.
I think FSU has the best chance to run it besides Alabama. I'd actually be happy if FSU made the championship, just to get the ACC haters off our back. Then again, if they get blown out in BCSCG, there goes the terrible ACC again. #goACC
WVU is not in the big east anymore
They'll be playing teams that know how to play offense...
They've got a great offense but their defense is suspect.. just like a lot of other teams in the Big12.
"...A visit to young-but-getting-better-every-week Miami Oct. 20 and a Thursday-night visit to Virginia Tech Nov. 8 are the only games that should remotely challenge the Seminoles between now and the regular-season finale."
I'm mad that I can't get but so mad at that statement. We have a lot of work to do between now and then.
I know this sounds terrible
After watching the Clemson FSU game last Saturday I had the feeling this isnt like the last couple of years. FSU looked like an SEC school with big fast guys and Clemson looked like a High School football team. I really think FSU has a shot at the National Championship game (of course after I write this they will choke on the South Florida game) but they look like a team with all of the pieces to make a run.
yeah i agree ... they looked great on BOTH sides of the ball and i fully expect them to be in undefeated and in the national c'ship discussions come thursday night in blacksburg. we'll be a 14+ point under-dog ... which i like :)
i really feel like clemson and fsu are raising the bar (and will continue to over the next few yrs) in the acc and in the long run, will make the acc a much better conference, possibly the 3rd best conference eventually (let's face it, other than usc, oregon, and stanford, the pac sucks as bad as any conference)
Back as in...
So FSU is back. Hmm. I feel like I've heard that before. Back as in "Men in Black Episode 3"? Or back as in "Brett Favre taking the Vikings to within one play of the Super Bowl". I say give them more time. Colors will show. I really bought into their performance against Clemson, but then again, as the illustration suggests, was that as much credit to FSU performing well--or Clemson choking on their own spit again. I firmly believe that if we can right the ship on offense--quickly, then we stand as good a chance as anyone to winning the conference. Down with the spear...and kitty-cats...
If Miami beats FSU
Which is back oor is neither?
Neither
Nope.
Who would have thought a Glennon was clutch?
I don't think anyone would, but that was a beautiful team game by NC State. I was hoping that we would be the ones to crash the 'Noles National Title train, but that would have been incredibly unlikely anyway.
Their defense obviously stepped up to hold FSU to 16. I'm sure FSU will play it off as them screwing themselves, but I think NCST stepped it up there.
Maybe it's about time...
That we start taking credit for a curse on the Seminoles... I mean, think about it. Ever since '99 they've had four times where they went 5-0 and then lost their next game when they were supposed to be "back."
We'll call it the Vick curse. He's obviously correlated in some fashion.
