DUCK Fuke!!!!!!

Commonwealth Cup Champions since Sat, Nov 27, 2004 at 4:05:00 PM EST

Not surprising. With so much QB uncertainty I doubt you'll see many favorable predictions.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Miami has the talent but never can put it all together. Not to mention that D has so many holes. UNC will be a huge game for use for sure and I think its between us and UNC. Duke is good but lets be honest we could have easily won that and we will have some bad blood for that game.

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

Not to mention Duke's OC has left for the nightmare that is the Gators. That was a big loss.

What nightmare?

look closely...

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

On the plus side, that looks like damn good blocking to me

Now, I'll need French to clarify this for me, but I think in a 11v11 game between two different teams, the offensive lineman is expected to block a defensive player from the other team, and vice-versa. I'm pretty sure that's where he went wrong...

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Even though it's Georgia State, I'm wondering how they still didn't tackle the guy with 11 v 9

I always wondered why that O lineman wasn't pancaking the hell out of that receiver. He just let himself get tied up.

Maybe somewhere deep down inside him a voice was saying "I don't think this is quite right..."

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

This is one of my favorite highlights of all time.

Kind of off topic, but why should we not be supporting Southern Pigskin? It's been years since I've been over there, so I'm wondering if something happened or if it's a Dinich-type situation. Apologies in advance if that's a total noob question.

UVA returning starters is reason for them to be less good. They're bringing back more of the same. LOL UVa.

Is this site, pro-SEC? It sure seems it by picking this way for the ACC Coastal. They seem to want a watered down ACCCG.

Duke will not have the dynamic QB combination they had. Our defense had them bottled up, we found a way to lose that one.

Miami defense: Pffffht...We put up 42 on them and ran all over them with a below average running game.

Duke Johnson will be a force for sure this year (he was out with injury against us).

I think we have some surprises for the ACC Coastal coming. VT in the ACCCG!

As far as their prediction, it's really not surprising. Duke was returning 17 starters before Connette transferred. I have a hunch they won't be able to replicate last year's success--I just don't think they have enough talent on the roster (yet) to sustain 10 win seasons regularly, but it's understandable that many see them as the favorites. Cutcliffe appears to be one of (if not) the best coaches in the nation right now.

I don't even know what to think about Miami anymore. Of all the impossible things to predict in the ACC, they are the impossiblist.

I think UNC will be our toughest competition this year. I've been pretty impressed with what I've seen from Marquise Williams.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Williams might not even start.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

oh really? I haven't really been paying attention to anyone else's spring football, but if whoever wins the job is good enough to beat out Williams, he's likely a good quarterback.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Yep it seems like he is in a tight competition right now.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Ive heard that some people think (Williams is) the favorite or that he still has the job, Trubisky, a redshirt freshman from Ohio, said recently. It is an open competition. He was given the job last year because I was redshirting and Bryn (Renner) went down. But as far as Im concerned, I have just as equal a right to be a starter this year as he does.

Clearly that kid is not lacking in confidence. Doesn't seem to be a lot of cohesion among their QBs either.

"He was given the job last year because I was redshirting..."

If I read into his comment, it sounds like he thinks Williams didn't earn the starting job last year, it was handed to him. And he thinks higher of himself than Brynn Renner since he listed his situation before Renners. I already want to see this QB get sacked by Dadi 10 times.

Duke won a lot of close games, didn't they?

Those things always turn around on you in a hurry.

I posted the exact stats in another thread, but I believe Ebron accounted for nearly 50.0% of Williams passing yards last year. I think he'll be in for a rude awakening without the number 1 TE in the nation.

“These people are losing their minds. This is beautiful.”

Let's see, a QB has a good year and then loses his best target(s).
Where have we heard this one before.... oh wait...

Just imagine what UNC could have done with Ebron at QB...

Nicely done.

They always predict Miami to be back. They have more questions at QB than Tech does this year. Right now Duke and UNC should be favorites based on who came back. UNC's offense was SCARY last year at the end of the season and they only lost what a TE?

That said, I am planning for my trip to Charlotte to watch Tech play down there in the ACC CG again.

A couple notes: Duke didn't lose much, but it lost just about all of its secondary, which is what kept it in almost all of their games, as well as their mix-up running QB. I'd expect them to take a fairly substantial step backwards this year. The TE UNC lost will be a first-day pick in a couple weeks, but UNC should be able to overcome that loss without too much of a dropoff in offensive production. Miami will always do less with more, but you never know. I'd say the UNC game will be absolutely critical, with tough matchups against Miami (just based on talent) and GT (just based on obnoxious scheme). I wouldn't sleep on Pitt either. I think Duke will be about the same kind of game (hopefully minus the turnovers, which would put us squarely ahead by at least a couple possessions) and UVA is UVA.

With a good starting QB , dependable receivers, and decent running game, VT could win the coastal and face FSU in the ACC Championship game.

Allen Ox

Do we have any of those 3 things set in stone right now? The closest is probably receivers and they had a case of the drops at the beginning of last year.

The Dude Abides

I know there are only 7 teams in the Coastal, but one of those rankings seems way too generous. Shouldn't UVA be ranked 8th?

Still more teams than fans at UVA's spring game...

He's no good to me dead.

This is too perfect right now. I was going to upvote this but I can't.
LOLUVA

I'm surprised they mentioned Detrick without mentioning Kysheon.

I thought the exact same thing...if you are going to mention Facyson, Fuller, and Bonner...you can't leave out Jarrett!

No way Duke wins the Coastal. I would bet 1600 turkey legs on it...I predict they return to earth this year.

VHokie

We are not going to be predicted to be that good this year and that is a good thing. History has shown that when we are predicted to struggle we end up doing much better than expected.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

When has Duke picked to win anything in football. Miami is never going to be good

Our motto bringing spirit true, that we may ever serve you

First of all this guy loses all credibility when he picks Duke to win the Coastal - Duke had a dream season last year, and I take nothing away from that, but its not happening again this year.

Then he mentions Marquis Williams as being a rising superstar at UNC (which he had his moments last year) but he hasn't even been named the Starter for next year.

Last - picking us 4th in the division is not wise. In 10 years in the ACC we finished 4th in the coastal once, every other year we finished first or second.

Beat WVU

I'm confused.
Is UVA's number a ranking, or the number of fans at their spring game?

well it can't be the number of fans at their spring game...if it is, it's a gross over-estimation

Onward and upward

Neither - it is the amount of "associate head coaches" and babysitters that UVA has hired to help Time Cop with managing time-outs.

The proud "V" in Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University spelled out in chest paint.
North Endzone @ 03 Miami.

"7?! That's it?! I know I have more than just 7 timeouts left over from last year!"

Chuck. I loved that show.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

Hahaha i had been debating originally whether to make a timeout joke or a fans at their spring game joke. Either work perfectly.

Isn't Miami always picked to finish first or second in the Coastal? I'm guessing this ranking is based on the ghosts of Hurricanes past, but they always fizzle. Wake me when DA U is really back.

Duke could win it, no doubt. But to say they will go 7-1 and win it outright would be a bold prediciton. My guess is it will end it a tiebreaker situation, so to say VT finishes fourth is not disrespecting us. We just need to go 5-3 and win the ones that matter, but I'd love to go 8-0.

The Dude Abides

I dont like that he mentions that this could be the end of the road for Mike London. The Time Cop has been the best thing thats happened at Virginia since Al Grogh

Maybe they'll decide to upgrade their coach to a committee of pre-K classes picking plays by shouting pokemon names.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Being a former MV, I took a look at your signature link. That was great

I was laughing so hard I nearly cried.

Wow, that's incredible. I played in an orchestra throughout school (violin); I'm pretty sure if I tried to hit a 24x forte, it would cause my instrument to combust, implode, or both.

I feel like when we have had our butts handed to us in OOC games in seasons past, we typically do better when it comes to the conference schedule. If this is the logic to go on, and yes it may be flawed, then we have a good outlook.

UNC plays OOC games against Liberty and San Diego St.??? Duke plays Kansas and Tulane???

Miami is really the only division competitor with any OOC tests: road game at Nebraska.

All this being said, like some other posters have said the source of this article can probably be taken with a grain of salt.

To clarify, I don't think we get our "butts handed to us" against Ohio State. Maybe a better way to say it would be that Ohio State is simply a legitimate test.

When we had this delusion about playing for a national championship, playing a better OOC schedule was a necessity.

When we are fighting for a bowl berth (like we will be this year), then it's a detriment.

eh, better to play a home and home vs an Ohio St, Nebraska, Wisconsin etc than playing a kickoff game .. a big OOC game is really needed in the years (like this year) where we match up with weak Atlantic teams - especially when struggling to sell out

Our other OOC games make up for the upcoming annual B1G clashes. It will be extremely difficult for us to not manage six regular season wins with our schedules the next decade.

I know I will catch crap for saying this, but VT is stronger when we get our butts kicked in OOC games because the pressure is then off. We are better as the hunter than the hunted, so once we drop in the rankings we usually fight back to the middle of the pack. Love to see this trend change though.

See Alabama 2009 and the Boise State game.

VTBlackout, did not want to reveal myself too much on here, but I am Sam (aka "Meat") from O'Shag circa 2005. Good to see you on TKP.

Lee Hall is better!

O'Shag 98 & 99. Lee Hall girls were always in O'Shag so I see it as an extension. When I ran fire alarms I would see droves of them simply return back to their own dorm, haha. Conversely Johnson Hall girls always seemed like they were too good for O'Shag.

We requested the large rooms in O'Shag in 2001. It was almost 50% larger than the average room. We lived like kings!

I knew you would probably be on here somewhere. Jared turned me on to this site last year, its a great time killer for the workdays.

Just got done visiting LA. Took in a Dodger game at Chavez Ravine. Talking Bryan Mitchell to the OSU game this year. You gonna be there?

If not, I'm shooting for the Miami game at home this year.

The Dude Abides

Are you proposing we "Schedule for Success?"

I know our QB situation won't be clear till the end of summer when Brewer gets here and has a few weeks to practice under Loeffler, but the ACC as a whole will have question marks at QBs too.

Boston College - Chase Rettig Graduated

Clemson - Tajh Boyd Graduated, Chad Kelly dismissed, Highly touted freshman Deshaun Watson out for spring.

Duke - Keeps Boone but Connette, who scored 27 TDs in 2013 transfers.

FSU - Heisman winner returns.

Georgia Tech - Vad Lee transfers to JMU.

Louisville - Teddy Bridgewater graduated.

Miami - Stephen Morris graduated. Senior in waiting out for season with injury.

UNC - Bryn Renner Graduated. Williams who played most of the season might not even win the job. (Article posted earlier in thread.)

NC State - Florida Transfer Jacoby Brissett looks to be front runner.

ND - Tommy Rees graduated.

Pitt - Tom Savage Graduated.

Syracuse - Terrel Hunt returns.

UVA - Things pointing towards Lambert starting over Watford.

Wake Forest - Tanner Price Graduated.

All I'm saying is that this should be an interesting season with so many new faces and not knowing what to expect from them.

VT '15

Chad Kelly dismissed

No one dismisses Chad Kelly, they simply can't handle his #SWAG

oh, are we starting one of these?

Chad Kelly went skinny dipping in the ocean once, and killed 4 sharks with his #SWAG

Onward and upward

I have a potential jimmy rustler

Sources say the movie 'Shooter' will have it's main character changed from Bob Lee Swagger to Chad Kelly #SWAGGER and 'Shooter' will refer to his prodigious arm.

Tommy Rees may be gone, but Everett Golson is back.

This is true. Although I've been hearing that their redshirt freshman Malik Zaire has been making some noise too.

VT '15

Wont really matter since ND can't play in the ACC title game and is not on VT's schedule this year.
