I'd say J.C. Coleman is getting ready to #BEATBAMA

Just saw this and it made me want to introduce Mr. Jack Johnson & Tom O'Leary to a Hoo's face.

Do we have any nicknames for him yet?

Rick Monday... You Made a Great Play...

I also root for: The Keydets, Army, TexAggies, NY Giants, NY Rangers, ATL Braves, and SA Brahmas

If everyone on the team is training as hard as he and Exum appear to be, I feel good about our chances.

I hope we get a video like this from Exum's time in Arizona

Is this a promotional video? If so, this might be a problem...

EDIT: Here are the NCAA rules regarding advertising and promo standards. It is kind of vague. Under "Individuals, Agencies, and Organizations it says

Professional advertising (e.g., dentists, doctors, lawyers). Permissible

I'm not a legal professional, so I'm not very familiar with these sorts of rules. Did Tech give this an "okay"? Me thinks not...

Also found this on UNCG's athletics site:

DO NOT use the name or picture of an enrolled student-athlete to directly advertise, recommend or promote sales or use of a commercial product or service of any kind. Even the sale of a picture of an enrolled student-athlete would jeopardize their eligibility.

This looks bad to me. I'm also no lawyer, but it would seem that there's another clause under "Sports Issues" that could create problems:

Names, pictures or likenesses of currently eligible NCAA student-athletes, unless specifically authorized by the NCAA and appropriate releases have been obtained. Impermissible

They used his name, highlighted "Virginia Tech" on his shorts, and then used game footage of him (though unrelated to J.C. specifically, did they get permission for re-use from the NCAA?)

As much as I like seeing our guys working hard like this, I am really afraid that there are going to be eligibility problems here. Let's just hope it gets sorted out before the season so his eligibility doesn't affect our win/loss record if something does go against him. Given the glacial pace of the NCAA, that's doubtful, but Tech has a great compliance office that should self-report if they think anything is wrong.

"Exit light..."

Judging by the number of investigators leaving the NCAA enforcement office, I doubt anything could come of this, even if it is a minor violation...

It was a catch

So because people are leaving their posts at the NCAA to join institutions or the private sector, the rules go out the window?

Look, I love JC, and I think he's a great ambassador for the University. But I (like many Hokies) take pride in going about things the right way. You investigate, and if there is a violation, self-report it. You don't just assume because the NCAA investigative arm is in shambles you cross your fingers that nothing comes of it.

Easy tiger, it was a joke.

It was a catch

Why would he have eligibility problems if he's not getting paid or receiving any other kind of benefits from it? Seems to me the 1ststring people are in the wrong here, not JC? (I don't know all of the rules and don't care to look into them so I may be wrong)

I don't think it's that big of a deal as long as he didn't receive any monetary benefit, and I highly doubt any investigations come out of this.

I was thinking the same. It's listed as promotional use only, for 1string, so would think that they are using his likeness. They actually have other guys on there too, like EJ Manual.

I don't know about all those rules and eligibility stuff....
All I know is that I'm ready to hit some sh*t and I'm a 47yo grown-a** man.

That video's pretty badass. I would say that technically that might be close to a violation, but if he stands to gain NOTHING from the video, is it really that bad? It would be absolutely ridiculous if the NCAA made a fuss over this when the SEC essentially paid their way to football dominance.

If you guys have spare time, do a little digging on Trent Richardson. There is visual evidence of him receiving impermissible benefits and the NCAA still looked the other way.

Lemme go put on my shocked face.

Does it look like this?

BWAAAA!?

Dang it! What happened to this video? My son loves it and has used it as inspiration for his training.
