Andy, When John Ballien interviewed for the AD position he had a articule in the paper afterword. One of the points he made was the NFL Alumni from VT gave $0.00 to VT last year. The spring game is always a reunion for former players in the NFL and not. Do you think Beamer or Ballien will reach out to the former players to join the Hokie Club which is laso been a hot topic as of late? Thanks.

VT is not alone in not getting a bunch of money back from former players. And honestly, I don't blame former players for not giving back. If I was them, I'd be of the mindset that they gave plenty (without much compensation, mind you) during their three or four or five years on campus. And considering the NFL career isn't very long, just throwing money around isn't the best idea.
But yes, I think they'll try. And really, anything that they could get those former guys to give would be more than what they've been getting. I just can't fault the NFL players for not doing it.
I think the players work hard as student athletes and deserve to be paid well in the NFL.
That said, it's really important to the program that former players support it.
If NONE of them give back, even as a gesture, what does that tell recruits or current players?
VT averages over 20 players on NFL teams per year.
The average NFL salary is $1.9mil per year ... 1/10th of 1% of $1mil. is $1K.
Former players in the NFL should give back to the program,
even if it's a small, undisclosed amount merely to show support.
