They are going to announce the ACC/B1G Challenge schedule today at 4 pm. I figured it would be fun to see who people want to play and why. Is it about the matchup? The history with the other team in other sports? The fanbase you have to put up with in your personal life?
For me, I think it would be fun and competitive for us to lead off with Purdue this year. They are coming off a kind of down year themselves at 15-17, 5-13 in conference, we will have Timothy Sands entrenched as the President by then and could lead to some friendly back and forth from the school administration regarding the matchup.
So who do you want?

well, Purdue was at home last year, so i vote for hosting Purdue in Blacksburg!
edit: are we allowed to host since we hosted in 2012 (and didn't play last year)? If we're not allowed to host, then i vote for Penn St in Happy Valley.
Upvoted you because I think you got fat-fingered?
Phrasing!
Archer always gets upvotes
I'd like to see either anOSU or Rutgers.
anOSU so we can beat them in both football and basketball in the same year
Rutgers because I am from NJ and want to see us beat them
Wisconsin...battle of the agricultural all-stars
With as many teams as we have in the ACC this year and how many there are in the BIG, are we guaranteed a spot in this Challenge? I figure we would be the first team to be left out since...well...you know.
That being said, I kind of like squaring off against Penn State. Schools are pretty close in terms of athletics, academics and of course proximity.
We did not play last year so we are guaranteed a spot. There are now 14 teams in the B1G so only one team will be out this season.
Meeshuhgan. Or MSU (since they clearly believe their football program is superior to ours).
MSU's basketball program is better than ours. They proved it last year. I would rather get a winnable game.
They lose like everybody from last year. We could put up a fight if it were in Cassell.
Well, I grew up an MSU fan, so I'd always love to see us take on the green and white. They beat us last year, but they'll have a very different type of team next year. And let's be serious, they just won the Rose Bowl against a very good Stanford team and we lost to UCLA in the Sun bowl. For now, they have the better team.
Indiana, Michigan, Michigan St, or Ohio State are the only ones i want to play. Will probably end up being someone like Nebraska or something
Indiana.
Storied program coming off a down year.
Maryland. Would be nice for them to start out 0-1 in this challenge.
I'm pretty sure every ACC team feels this way. It'll be an interesting dynamic, for sure.
My predictions FWIW:
uva @ Michigan
Mich St @ 'cuse
L'ville @ Wisconsin
Nebraska @ UNC
Duke @ umd
Pitt @ Illinois
tOSU @ FSU
Iowa @ Clemson
Minnesota @ Miami
NCSU @ Indiana
GT @ Rutgers
Purdue @ ND
Wake @ Northwestern
VT @ Penn St
1 out of 14 ain't bad! of course, ours is the only one i got right!
It would be great to beat Michigan and Penn State. OSU would be fun too.
Penn State...just because VT and Penn State are the two best schools ever...and they are very similar (had a hard time choosing between the two when accepting admissions letters)
you picked the right one
I went to both. Er, went to VT. Current at PSU
I would choose Iowa, because they're never horrible, and seldom elite. They always seem to have a solid team and I've always liked Iowa, in the way that many appreciate aTm in football.
Well it looks like they released a teaser before the full slate:

Duke at Wisconsin
Syracuse at Michigan
anOSU at Louisville
Pittsburgh at Indiana
Iowa at UNC
LOLUVA at Maryland
Seems like we are getting the short end of the top matchups home game wise with this schedule. This still leaves eight more games to be announced.
just saw that...boy was i wrong!
LOLUVa vs Maryland?
lol love it. Those 2 programs deserve each other.
I bet we get Rutgers. For two reasons: one I grew up there and two they stink at about the same level as we stank last year. Sads.
Who do I want to play? Indiana at Indiana would be cool. Who will we play? It rhymes with Buttgers.
I am so not a fan of Mark Berman. Even if his tweets about who the Hokies will face in the challenge are probably correct, its how he words them that just irritates me. I wish he would just move to Charlottesville and leave the reporting on Tech sports to Teel and Bitter.
Can't wait to see him cry once VT starts winning under Buzz.
I gotta say as a journalist for Hokie sports knowing little facts like "can't miss two years in a row" should be a requirement for your job.
I am more of the thought he saw an opportunity to take another jab at Tech more than he didn't know the setup, it could be both.
He does love to throw in any jab possible at Tech sports. The other reporters laugh at him about it to his face. The bad part is that if you want any Vt basketball info from the RT, 99.9% of it comes from Berman. That's what makes it unacceptable. if he were one of 2-3 covering them, it would just be a sad joke. As it is, it's bad business. Warren Buffett's money doesn't solve that.
But the ACC lets LOLUVA play football each year...guess they get a participation trophy.
He is a bitter little man. His dislike of VT basketball is so patently obvious that it has been a running joke among the sports media for years and years. As it that weren't enough reason to ignore him, his attitude towards RT 'readers' is the same. Top that off with the fact that he does a very inadequate job of providing content about VT basketball, and you've got a reporter that is a detriment to RT coverage of VT basketball.
The amount of times I've wanted to just trip him when he walks by in the tunnel during basketball games is ridiculous. And I'm far from the only one with that sentiment.
HOAT, sounds like we need someone from the STABLE to take care of this gentleman.
I'll see who I know down in Roanoke...
I think we're gonna play Penn State.
You were right.
I saw the teaser with UVA/MD. But I want to play MD. Because f&!@ Maryland.
I'm surprised they didn't send Duke to College Park.
ACC website has us playing at Penn State on Dec 3rd
