Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was issued a citation Tuesday for shoplifting crab legs from Publix, a misdemeanor arrest, according to multiple sources. Winston, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, is a red-shirt sophomore for the Seminoles.

I'm having a hard time believing this, but at the very least its funny!
It all 'boils' down to evidence. If police have it, they will have 'netted' themselves a solid case. If they don't have the evidence, he walks and they have to let him off the hook.
You mean, he crab walks.
I heard the de-clawed crab has issued a statement claiming it was consensual.
Is this real???
This is really going to get him into some hot water.
Yep a steaming pot of boiling water.
*Checks calendar*
Nope, it's not April 1.
and once again, we prove that the internet never disappoints
Well that just won the internet today.
i wish i knew who to give credit to...i found it on twitter, and i'm pretty sure it had already been recycled there...the interwebs is fast...
Regardless a good find! And hilarious :)
I believe this is the original
Saw this photo on ESPN's Around the Horn last night.
Well done, sir!
Vanderbeek (sp?) references always get a leg from me, love Varsity Blues
100 legs on a single comment!!!
i wonder if that's a record
Gotta be. Closest I've seen is about 80.
Can I just take a second to say HOLY HELL! 100 upvotes!! Never thought I'd see that
EDIT: damn I got excited before I looked at the previous comments. Bourbon beat me to it ha
If only I had turkey leg for every time I said "bourbon beat me to it"
Yes, yes, and yes.
I'll get after ya
Wait... what?
He was also caught smuggling hot sauce packets out of Taco Bell inside the Heisman Trophy.
"stealing soda in a ketchup cup."
?What?Why?
This is something that a 5 year old will think is funny
The manager said he wasn't going to complain initially, knowing who it was, but after the 478th stolen cupful, it was his duty.
Sad part is the ketchup probably has a higher cost than the soda.
I heard he was using his free water cup to get soda.
Here at Virginia Tech, we take stolen soda very seriously. That shit can get you a JR (or whatever it's called these days).
having to pay 10 cents for that cup at the dining halls...:(
These cannot be real...
I'm surprised the police didn't tell the Publix staff that filing charges will cause lots of problems for them.
if all reports of current and past actions are true, methinks he may just be a klepto...there is never a NEED to steal 2oz of soda...never.
waiting for him to say that he goes to bed hungry...
Well he either shoplifts crab legs, or he has to eat that nice, diamond-covered championship ring. Gotta make tough choices.
Hungry? Maybe, but definitely not thirsty, as long as he swings by Burger King first.
I'm just going to take this as our Wednesday funny.
Also, this is the advertisement that showed up when I first clicked this thread...

making the case to be Auburn's next QB?
Hide your laptops!
Gotta love the intrawebs
how do you even steal crab legs.......................................................
grab the tank?
I'm no CSI expert, but I think it went down like this.
1) Walk in store
2) See crablegs
3) Pick up legs
4) Walk out of store without paying.
Hope that clears up your mystery of how to steal crablegs.
I hear the Tallahassee PD is looking for detectives
I think the proper term is that he pinched them.
ha!
Free Shoes UFree Shellfish U
New generation, new slogan.
Filched Seafood University
Also, Tomahawk Nation made a correction their original story, "Correction: The original story said that Winston was arrested, but a source with Tallahassee Police says that it is being classified as a citation, and not an arrest."
Five-fingered Seafood University?
commendation, not citation
the food legs were approaching expiration, and he saved the Publix employees from having to dispose of them
hey man, we've all been there before... a long night of partying out of your mind and take the food, hide it from your friends, and find a nice quiet place to get your hunger gone
Just a citation? Man, the police let him off the hook
So was he taking the crab legs to Dillards to get free shoes for them?
So ummm didnt the NCAA like just make it so D1 athletes have unlimited meal plans? Or do they not teach the word unlimited in Winston's 1st grade spelling class at FSU?
I guess FSU doesnt have JPs Chophouse....
I'm sorry, but REALLY?!?!
He has got to be one of the dumbest human beings alive. He's already under the public microscope, and he already dodged a massive bullet with the Tally PD royally botching the rape investigation. He has to know the entire planet is waiting on him to screw up to jump all over his case, so he shoplifts crablegs from a Publix?
Its unfathomable he's that stupid.
"He has got to be one of the dumbest human beings alive." You do realize I got flamed on another thread for my thoughts about him and people said I was wrong for criticizing him, I'm pretty sure I was told he was just a kid. "Leave the kid alone." Unfortunately, there seems to be a pattern emerging.
there is a pattern but when the kid is an ignorant person then the maturity/kid thing can go out the window. I honestly am not surprised, like I have said before tallaclassy is a **** and will always be. The police are a joke (not just this situation) but as a whole.
he might be good at football and baseball but proper english, common sense, and other areas are on par with my 7 year old cousin.
You get my point which I've tried to make. Many times we put these athletes up high because they can play a sport well but when it comes down to it, if they do something wrong, they should be made to pay like you or I. I don't believe it's fair to just write it off as a kid or whatever. If I do something wrong, punish me so I learn my lesson. Don't cover it up and let me go off and do my thing. Unfortunately I sometimes feel like sports and entertainment and many other parts of society let these things go because people have power or money or talent and it needs to be addressed.
high profile athlete's get off way to easy. Point in case bradley roby was sitting in his car and was intoxicated at .08 which is max limit for dui in Ohio. He was arrested and was going to be charged with dui, instead the judge reduced it to physical control while impaired. 0 points will go on his licence and he had to go to a 3 day class.
Yes I get this but how did the car get there in the first place? Why was he sitting in the car to begin with, he had the intent to drive and luckily was caught. Its such a double standard its not even funny. Just the other day a man in Nj was charged with a dui while in the back seat sleeping in his car. Did this man get away with physical control while impaired...no but now he has to deal with the repercussions of a DUI. What the hell does physical control mean anyways... the keys were in the car, he was in the car , he was going to leave drunk and go somewhere.. It's a DUI period.
Yup exactly, who you know and what you can do, can you play football? Here you go, slap on the back.
shit man, a friend of mine managed to get a dui while sitting in the back of my car, while I was in the driver seat. true story
I take it he couldn't play football?
Not being serious...just following the thread
no, lol, he couldn't play football
I'm assuming sarcasm.
I bet your 7-yr-old cousin is smart enough to know not to shoplift.
Enough excuses for Jameis. The "he is a kid" excuse doen't fly anymore...
I am sorry, if I shoplifted a bag of crabs, I am sure I wouldn't get 20 hours community service for it. I would probably lose my job and get arrested.
He is 20 years old...he is NOT a kid anymore. 10 year olds know better than to shoplift crabs from the grocery store...
Jameis ain't too bright...Why didn't he just eat the evidence?!?
Knock, Knock..."Open up, its the Talahassee PD"
"Just a minute...be right there...munch, munch...Oh, hi Officer, how can I help you?"-Jameis Winston
So Jameis finally caught crabs from all his screwing around....
BOOM!
goes the dynamite?
I posted this comment on Facebook:
"Apparently, Jameis is really, REALLY gonna miss Maryland this year."
Reports out of Tallahassee that Jameis Winston will transfer to the University of Maryland. Asked for his reason, Winston shouted "Crabcakes and football, that's what Maryland does!"
Hope he didn't forget to grab some...

and some...
...and this just got added to my need to try list.
Ditto!! Sounds yummy and would go perfect with crab legs. ;)
yeah, should be hitting shelves locally this week and eventually nationally. if you live near Frederick, i hear they are already selling growlers of it at the brewery.
Who makes it?
sorry, Flying Dog...
edit: adding nice write up
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-sports-bog/wp/2014/04/28/flying-d...
No prob...Thanks for the info. I bet this would also make a good red eye.
and this ...
These are the best with a crab cake sandwich. UTZ makes the best chips.
Agreed. UTZ are incredible.
The Herr's chips are better than the Utz.... I haven't found these anywhere except for here in PA.
Thank you for that, I will look for them.
You will not be disappointed.
Thanks !
Just had it today for the first time.
Inferno is on board!
I've only seen that brand in Big Lots here in the NRV. I'm pretty hesitant to buy Big Lots
food though. But if I see these I will grab a bag. Thanks for sharing!
Big Lots & the dollar stores have developed pretty good packaged food options, not like the old days. There's nothing wrong with the food there (other than might be brand you don't like). That's a nice profit category for them.
Yea, definitely worth the try! Even from a Big Lots- just check the dates.
I almost choked on my sandwich just now bro. I love surfing TKP during lunch breaks...
Someone needs to photoshop some crab legs into the heisman trophy.
The internet is way ahead of you today...
Alright! His alibi will be that he was hungry and didn't get enough benefits.
Damn. I'm too slow. I was going for something like this:

Just a few of my favorites
This is great. Although considering it was his downfall, maybe one of Indy in the crab pit.
"Crabs. Why did it have to be Crabs?"
anyone got any good game signs to taunt him with yet?
Forget game signs, just bring crab legs
Can't wait for the first ESPN College Game Day for an FSU game...the signs behind Corso and Herbstreit are going to be hilarious.
I can envision some hats or crowns made of crab legs.
I don't own photoshop, but there needs to be a Long John Silvers or similar restaurant with a "Famous Jameis Crab Shack" photo on the Internet.
It should have also read "NO FIVE FINGER DISCOUNTS"
When asked to comment, Winston said "I have a thing for splitting open legs; even if its against the law"
Im not a fan of FSU or Jameis, but law enforcers are very quick to profile and target black athletes to further their own career. The citation sounds ridiculous.
I don't hear anything about this being a frame job by the Florida P.D. Sounds like just a dumb college kid. These things tend to be color blind.
If you were going to frame someone, why would you frame them that they shoplifted crab legs?
That's almost as stupid as actually shoplifting crab legs.
Its the perfect crime, no one suspects it will happen to them. Before you know it, the police have you cornered and are zipping up crablegs into evidence bags before you know what hit you. I've seen it a million times.
Around here they get you for shoplifting corn on the cob. It's a nasty nasty crime.
Yes....The police went to his apartment after Publix called them and reported it. Jameis admitted that he took the crabs and "forgot" to pay. He has already issued a statement apologizing and taking responsibility for it.
"As reported in the news, last night I received an adult civil citation for petit theft from a local supermarket. I went to the supermarket with the intent to purchase dinner but made a terrible mistake for which Im taking full responsibility. In a moment of youthful ignorance, I walked out of the store without paying for one of my items."
YUP...sure sounds like the police are targeting him....this is definitely a clear cut case of racist cops.
So, he paid for everything but what was most likely the most expensive and fairly large bag? Where could these crab legs have been that he would have forgotten to pay for just them?
In his stomach after eating them. I'd forget to pay for something that I'd eaten while walking around the store, too.
Oh, after eating them I'd definitely be able to give it back to them. I'm just not sure they'd want it.
I am sure he wrote that statement on his own. I think it was his lawyer(s) that issued the statement.
So you are pulling the race card on this incident? Jameis was framed...he was profiled...he was targeted...That, my friend, is weak!
Sounds like an FSU forum.
he will be "suspended from FSU's baseball team, with whom he's 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 16 appearances this spring"...
wait, what!? with numbers like that, shouldn't he be focusing on getting a middle relief gig in MLB instead of destroying his body in football? he could pitch for 20 years!
http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/10861565/jameis-winston-f...
I guarantee you he will be picked in the MLB draft after next season. It's not uncommon to see stellar athletes drafted, even if they are drafted low, since there are 40 rounds of picks.
the Rangers already drafted him, but that was 2 years ago. i have no clue how long MLB teams hold rights, etc.
If you don't sign, I believe anybody can pick you up in the next draft you're eligible for.
If you don't sign, you re-enter the draft the next year
Unless you were selected out of high school and didn't sign. Then you aren't eligible until you are 21 or a Junior in college.
so he's eligible for the draft again in 2015, correct (drafted in 2012 out of high school)?
You got it
The Hampton High Crabbers could probably use a reliever
I will upvote ANY Peninsula District references.
I love how they include his stats, as if to have you read them and say - 'Wow! he's having a really good season!...'
He's shoplifting at a 0.455 clip of getting off scot-free, with an Earned Crableg Average of 17.3 per nine attempts.
Silly.
There are no TE in baseball.
Who else is tired of his shellfish behavior?
I sea what you did there
Shrimp'n ain't easy
Neither is crabbing
Look for an FSU booster to make a "donation" to Publix to make this little event go away.
Then again, just how much weight does a Tallahassee Police Department "citation" carry?
ask Peter Warrick?
A quarter suspension against a Division II school I'm sure.
Suspension from a summer practice, where he'll have to sit in a lawn chair and watch his teammates practice in the hot Florida sun in order to learn the error of his ways.
With a nice cool drink and some crab legs?
As long as they're paid for and provided by boosters.
He must eat the crablegs. But does not get to Old Bay or melted butter. And they will be improperly cooked so the meat sticks in the leg and comes out in strings instead of one lump piece. That is punishment.
I would say he's forced to eat the crab legs... without Old Bay.
But I don't support cruel and unusual punishment.
the cruel and unusual punishment of the crab?
Maybe he'll get a plaque to go with the citation - Shoplifter of the Month April 2014.
does that include a parking spot?
Not sure why I hadn't seen this or thought of this already
These posts are hilarious.
I knew he'd be a bad representative of the NCAA, now we have more proof. He will further disintegrate. Where's my popcorn?
Rinaldi: Jamies, with 1:15 to go in this morning, day of the meal, what did you tell your teammates around you?
Winston: I said, guys, we didnt come here for no reason. I said, guys, this is ours, man. All the adversity we went through the first few stores, it was ours to take. And like Ive been saying, we control our own dinners. And those men looked me in my eye and they said, We got this, Jameis. And I said we said I said, Are you strong? They said, Im strong if you strong. I said, We strong, then.
Logan Thomas has all the measurables that gang members look for in a potential shoplifter. Some days he looks like he can steal cars with the best of them, other days he couldn't steal candy from a baby. Blame it on his upbringing, his parents didn't raise him in a way that would translate to a successful career in larceny.
Now if they'd converted him to a department store shoplifter from a convenience store shoplifter, he would've been much more successful
I think it was more because of the lack of talented and high quality stores around him. He would have performed much better with some better stores nearby.
It's all a misunderstanding! He met Zoidberg and took him home. Publix just THOUGHT Zoidberg was a pack of crab legs, instead of a Lobster species from a different planet.
Winner.
That guy is good at the internet
Does anyone know what type of crab? Snow? King?
It really seems like Winston's shell is about to crack. The media is going to feast on this. I guess we will see how good of a Fisher Jimbo is to see if he can get him out of this net.
I'll sea myself out.
ESPN alert said it was $32 worth of crab legs and that he forgot to pay. I'm guessing he will sea a lawyer again.
Sounds like King crab to me. I'm sure he "forgot to pay". Just like when my younger brother-in-law "forgets" his wallet when we go out to grab a beer.
His story sounds fishy to me.
I bet you get quite crabby when your brother-in-law does that.
You have no idea. It really gets me steamed.
by the way, Nikki Giovanni is a great person, I got to meet her one day and sit down with her to discuss poetry, it was really awesome.
That would make my blood boil.
It certainly doesn't help me penny pinch.
Seems fishy to me
I'm sure they have one on retainer.
What do dentists have to do with this thread?
Always made me laugh that Miami's mascot was named Sebastan as well.
And I said we said I said, Are you hungry? They said, Im hungry if you hungry. I said, We hungry, then. Well then lets go
Wow, he's starting to approach bucky hodges levels of height. We better watch out.
Well considering a sponge fits comfortably in the Krusty Krab...
need to put the terrified patrick star somewhere in there
Couldn't let everyone else have all the fun. Threw that pic in Illustrator and made my own.
He should be sentenced to serve 30 days on a crab boat on Deadliest Catch. What a Moron! He could get free crabs from almost any Florida State coed.
I'm not sure if this was covered already, but if you skim through the title of this thread really fast without paying too much attention it almost seems like it says "Famous Jamis Has Crabs"
You wonder if Jameis understands why those checkout lanes are placed between the food and the front door.
I'm getting too old for the internet. Can't we just go back to YTMNDs?
http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/70011/supermarket-advertises-winst...
If you check out this article, does FSU and Winston have an NCAA violation? The supermarket is using Jameis's name to sell crab legs.
I think in this case, it's FSU's responsibility to send a cease-and-desist. Anyone can co-opt someone's name; it's not like Winston is profiting from it or can control it in any way.
Maybe its just a misunderstanding. The poster might have said "Free Crab Legs if you are this guy" with his picture on it.
I don't think this is a violation...
"We made a one-time label for our personal Facebook page just to have a laugh," said Smith, son of the store's owner, Larry Smith. "We're always joking around with all our friends and it just went crazy. People started sharing it and then it hit Twitter and it started getting retweeted and it's really just blown up."
I found one for the Pokemon fans on the Americana page of ICanHazCheeseburger.
We should have seen this coming - I mean, he was just on SNL the other week in the little mermaid skit...
I'm sure the next Heisman house commercial will having something that incorporates this incident.....it should at least.
Nothing can beat the Addidas basketball commercial with Karl Malone, C-Webb, Barry, and LT. That is damn funny.
To be fair I doubt he received special treatment because of his status -- many stores have this type of policy...
I was with my college roomie during his birthday --- he was trying to shoplift alcohol out of a Walmart after 12:00am... (i had no idea that was his plan lol) they caught him red-handed and didn't even get the police involved. He was issued a warning that if he ever came into that Walmart again he'd be arrested. He had to sign a few papers then they let him go.
Some of these bigger stores have so many shoplifters that it's just not worth arresting everyone -- especially on their 1st offense...
It was only a matter of time for this to happen:
... what did I just watch?
Japan never ceases to confuse me.....
And I thought I was drunk.
You were.
I wonder how much of what they said was actual information and not made up. You notice that they have their stereotypes of us, too.
Reading what was said, he ordered the food, left the store, came back, went to pick up some butter, paused in front of a security guard, walked behind him, and avoided clerks that tried to stop him as he exited the store.
Sounds like he knew what he was doing.
Well, there is also this:
Here's the security footage from Publix via TMZ, if anyone's interested.
http://msn.foxsports.com/buzzer/story/jameis-winston-stealing-crab-legs-...
Wow, what an elusive escape!
Ugh. I have a feeling this story is going to be one that's shoved in our face with a new tidbit every week. I can see it now....
"6 months ago Jameis Winston, the Heisman Frontrunner, was caught stealing crab legs from Publix! Here is remarkable unseen security footage of an employee cleaning up a scuff mark Winston made with crab legs in hand!"
Does it resemble any of that cartton video above?
Does it resemble any of that cartoon video above?
So apparently Jameis still has a thing for the crab legs. This time, he was chaperoned..
I'm guessing he isn't allowed back in Publix?
That's probably accurate.
"I love me some crab legs, its a pain though because the shells are so skrong"
