I know we've had a few discussions about where Kyle Fuller will go, but I wanted to start a thread about the NFL Draft in general since I'm tired of only hearing from Mel Kiper and Todd McShay about it.
Some discussions to talk about:
Who do you want your team to draft in the first round?
Where do you think Hokies like Fuller, Thomas and Exum will go?
How do you think the top 10 will work itself out?

Can't wait to see where all our Hokies go!! So excited for them!!
Kyle Fuller on his way to the Draft....

I'm excited that the first pick is not a foregone conclusion this year, and the potential for an unexpected and trade filled first 10 picks.
Looking for the Ravens to pick up some help on the O-Line or Safety, doubtful HaHa will drop that far but here's to hoping.
I don't see Fuller dropping lower than 20, and Exum gets a mid to late 2nd round snag while LT3 is picked up in the late 2nd by a team willing to reach because of his intangibles.
Fuller's gained a ton of helium going into the draft. I would be surprised at this point if he made it by Cincy at 24, but agree that he's most likely a top 20 guy.
I just hope LT3 goes somewhere with a good QB coach. Hoping something will just click for him and he'll unleash that immense potential. Was always frustrated with him at VT b/c of the inconsistencies, but will always root for him. Unless he goes to Dallas.
Much like in Danny Coale's case, I'll root for LT to do well but will be happy when the team loses.
I'm kind of hoping that Logan lands in Arizona. Carson Palmer isn't getting any younger and has said he would understand the team drafting another QB. So him having a chance to sit and learn the system while hopefully learning in game knowledge from an above average QB seems to be a great situation. Plus he'd play for Bruce Arians and Hokie Nation is all about helping another Hokie out.
Arizona would be a good landing spot for him, I think.
Second round or second day?
Not to be a debbie downer, but I don't see Exum going before the 5th round. He's been injured, and he's a good corner, but not a great corner.
Logan could go anywhere. 1st round would surprise me, but not shock me. Outside the 5th round would shock me. Anywhere in between could happen. I expect Mid 3 to early 5. (DISCLAIMER I haven't really paid attention to how many teams need a QB, what teams have what picks, etc, etc.)
It would not shock me at all to see Exum drafted as a safety. He has played the position before and arguably fits the NFL mold more as a safety than as a CB.
I see LT going as a experiment project somewhere between the 2-4 rounds to a team with an actual QB that is looking for a potential starter in a couple years or a potential TE. Yes I said it.
Second round. I have Exum going that early because I've heard a few scouts really like him and there's going to be a rush to snag corners with the NFL becoming a pass happy league. And seeing it through huge homer glasses, can't forget about that.
I'm predicting late 3rd, early 4th for Exum. I'd love him on the Panthers as a sort of "big nickel" type player. I think he's a good safety prospect, honestly. I think he could play CB in the right system but would fit great as a safety in Carolina's.
I couldn't agree more. The thought of Exum playing safety for the Panthers just gets me all giddy inside. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
I see Exum going as a safety earlier than we might think as teams see emulating the Seahawks backfield and being able to do it less expensively than WR, RB and QB. I see teams wanting to Kam Chancellor him into a #2 Safety.
That and a serious Homer case here.
To get things going, I'll answer my own questions:
My team is not drafting in the first round. HTTR! Hoping they go OT or ILB in the early 2nd, depending on who is still available. As long as it's not the OT from timecopville
My gut feeling has Fuller ending up in Cincy, Logan in Arizona and Exum in Pittsburgh.
I think that there are gonna be a ton of busts amongst the top 10 picks this year. I think there is a lot of 1st round talent this year, but not a lot of the elite talent you generally see early.
Also, IMO there are tons of QB's that have similar ceilings...if I was looking for a QB, I'd just pick one up late 2nd early 3rd. There are no Lucks, RGIII's, etc. to try and mortgage the future for.
Predictions from me are Fuller in 1st round, Antone and Logan in the 3rd or 4th rounds. I think it's possible that we see Gayle get picked up as a late round pick too.
Yeah, Gayle is probably a 3rd day pick since there are a bunch of solid edge rushers this year. He'll have to work his way up through Special Teams, but he can probably get reps as a situational edge rusher early on as well.
Who will the Redskins pick in the first round? Nobody. Good thing I've long since been used to my team having about 3 fewer picks than everyone else.
Kyle Fuller: Will go no later than 24th to Cincy, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him crack the top 20.
Logan: 3rd round. Someone will want to take a chance on a guy with traits that good
Exum: 4th round
Gayle: 6th round
I'm looking forward to:
1. Kyle continuing the D-block tradition and hopefully Exum too
2. The second and third round picks... that's where teams get the most value and its always fun to see the analysis of those guys as they get drafted because up until the draft the talk is almost all about 20-30 guys
3. Watching teams like the Ravens, Steelers, and Seahawks pick... they generally know what they are doing
4. Watching the Redskins not draft in the first round. Hail To The (new) Raiders!
As a Cleveland fan part of me has a feeling that the FO will be dumb and go OL or trade back to 6 with Atlanta who is in love with Matthews from Aubrun. If we trade back I would say Mike Evans at 6, then QB or DB at 26.
My dream scenario is stay at 4- Watkins or Evans 26- Fuller or QB that falls, might be teddy Bridegwater.. dreaming of bortles at 26 would be ohh to good
While I'm usually against taking WR and TE high, I absolutely love Mike Evans and Eric Ebron this year. I think they could end up being the top 2 players that come out of this draft.
(3 years later, look up this thread and mock me when both get cut by their teams during the preseason)
I can see SanFran trading up to get a CB, and they seemed impressed with Fuller...and you know they had full exposure to Kam, so they know how VT coaches DBs. I think LT goes as a 4-6 round pick, possibly to SF as well. (Disclaimer: I'm not necessarily a SF fan, but I've read that they may want a developmental QB) Exum is a tough call....I can see him anywhere from a round 5-7 pick and possibly a UFA...His injury just obliterated his draft stock. I think any other Hokies are UFA's. That being said, I think Gayle and Tyler are UFA payoffs....they're both likely to make whatever team they sign with.
Green Bay's biggest draft need seems to be a safety. A lot of "experts" are predicting they draft Calvin Pryor or Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in the first round, but I wouldn't mind seeing them draft another position in the first and picking up Antone Exum.
That is my hope as well, he could play Nickel, Corner or Safety for the Pack.
As a Panthers fan it's likely OT or WR for us in the first and I hope we go receiver unless all of the big ones are gone by the one we pick. Realistically I see us picking Marqise Lee or Cody Latimer in the first round and an OT in the second.
I'm hoping it's not OT in the first, most likely there won't be one worth taking that late in the round. WR or DB is my prediction. Lee or Latimer, I agree, but also possibly Jason Verrett or Jimmie Ward. I don't think the FO will shy away from going defense again if BPA applies.
The Kony Ealy pick would be interesting. Wonder what that would say about the future of CJ and Hardy.
Yeah I wouldn't mind it all that much honestly. At the very least it'd put us in a position where parting ways with either wouldn't cripple us like ole Peppers did.
Calvin Pryor could be an option as well. This recent tweet from Ian Rapoport is interesting.
Even if we are one of those teams if Brandin Cooks, Odell Beckham Jr. or Lee falls to us I don't see us passing them up.
If OBJ falls to 28, we'd better be running to the podium like last year. That would be very fortunate for us. Not as high on Cooks, personally, but Lee, sure thing.
Exum has a great advantage in the draft. When fully healthy, he's a great CB and can also play safety in the NFL.
Unfortunately that "when fully healthy" part is going to sink his draft stock.
But the number he ran at the Tech pro day is going to help his draft stock some. I just wish he hadn't opened his trap at the combine about being the best corner and then flubbing most of the drills.
I'm a little glad he did that because he said it, and then some folks looked at what Virginia Tech has done lately, and then they noticed Kyle. I think Exum my have accidentally sky rocketed Kyle.
I'm a Vikings fan and despite all the negativity surrounding him I want Manziel. The kid can make plays, something we haven't had at QB in years
I am also a Vikings fan, and will probably need to change my pants if they get Johnny. If not him, I would love either a corner or Khalil Mack if he falls that far
A lot of pundits are saying the Eagles will take Fuller at 22. I'd think WR would be a bigger need with the departure of Desean Jackson, but our secondary hasn't been a force since my man Brian Dawkins left the team for Denver.
Great minds think alike as I mentioned earlier this week no way he gets past 22
If he is there when the steelers go, I think they will snag him.
as a browns fan the temptation to downvote is strong.. but I must stay strong.
You don't want to see Worilds, Fuller, and Exum all the in the backfield for the Steelers?
ohh no not in black and mustard. only maroon and orange baby
I presume LT, Kyle and Exum are drafted, Gayle will be signed shortly after the draft as a free agent. I predict:
Kyle Fuller - 1st round
Logan - 5th round
Antone - 7th round
I also spoke with Jack Tyler before the spring game, and he said he's had meetings with a few teams. I think he'll get a shot as an undrafted FA as well. The other guys, JR Collins and Andrew Miller, will probably struggle to find teams willing to gamble. If they get signed, it will be at least a few days post-draft.
I wouldn't be shocked in the least to see Gayle drafted in the lower rounds. He put up some very good numbers at the combine.
I'd be surprised if Collins/Miller don't end up in some team's training camp
Kyle: 1rst
Logan: 2nd:
Exum: 5th
Gayle: 5th
I really believe someone is going to gamble on Logan in the 2nd. I also think that the lack of a complete season is going to bring Exum down further than he should be. He and Gayle will be a steal in the 5th.
Was this in doubt? The Browns love to blow draft picks on QB's. Aren't they required by the CBA to take one in the first or second round every year?
Ok so this is dumb, Browns wouldn't just announce to the world that they're taking Manziel if he's available...what's probably happening is that a team is looking to trade up to get Manziel, Browns found out about it and made this announcement so they can maximize their leverage for a trade.
This ^^^ If Watkins is gone by 4 I wouldn't be surprised to see Browns trade back and someone like maybe Minnesota, Bucs or even Tennessee to come calling. Browns then could take #2 WR in Evans at lets say 8-12 and its not a reach like it would be at 4 and then maybe get a 2nd round pick or 15 1st round pick.
Browns then could take QB at 26 and then go O-line or even RB with 2nd round pick.
You're right it's dumb, but it is the Browns. They just might do it.
I just don't see them taking him at #4. Remember Hoyer looked like a decent QB before he went down with that ACL, not saying he is great but he is serviceable(is that a word)? Trading back if JF is available at 4 for 8-13 and 2nd rounder is what Browns need to do
Touche.
If the Bills were to trade down to the late teens I would love it if they snagged Fuller, but unfortunately that is not one of our major needs early in the draft this year. I REALLY want Buffalo to snag Logan if he is still on the board in the 4th round. That said, I wouldn't necessarily be angry if we took him in the 3rd either, but I think its doubtful to happen. I would be happy if we somehow landed Exum in the 5th or later too.
Just prayin that either Sammy Watkins falls to 5th at Oakland's pick and Buffalo can get on the phone, a tackle like Matthews or Lewan falls to us, or Ebron/Evans is available at the Bills pick at 9. I pray that at least ONE QB goes before the Bills and then a player we like will be available. No qbs taken before us and it's possible all Buffalo's top board is gone and then I'd hope we wouldn't reach and possibly find a partner to trade down. That Notre Dame lineman (Zach Martin?) could be an option at 9.
Fellow bills fan. I also hope Evans, ebron, or the tackles will be available and I would be very happy with any of them. I don't want a DL though.
If Lee is gone by 28 (assuming that Cooks and OBJ are as well) I wouldn't be surprised if my Panthers choose Allen Robinson out of Penn State aka this year's Keenan Allen.
They did just take a last minute visit with him. I wouldn't necessarily be surprised but I'd be more inclined to think they'd go for Latimer, just based on how many visits they've apparently had with the kid. Not that it means much sometimes, they had like 5 or 6 visits with Coples the year that we drafted Luke Kuechly (thank goodness).
Yeah, I'm almost praying that Lee falls to 28 but don't see it happening. Latimer or Robinson would be fantastic consolation prizes however. OT is still an option but I just think Gettleman wants to get a top flight receiver out the best receiver class in years.
I wouldn't rule out DB yet either. Or even DE. We've also shown interest in Fuller and Jason Verrett so I think they're really looking at that possibility too. TE is also an option. While he won't be there, Ebron was brought in. Could be looking at Amaro or Sefarian-Jenkins as well. Overall their visits tell me that they're going to take whoever they think is the best player at any position (aside from the obvious, QB, RB, etc.)
I feel like they'd ideally trade down a bit but everybody wants to do that so who knows if they could find a dance partner or not.
In this copycat league I see CBs, DE, TE and OL going off the board early. Not so much with QB and RB. Safeties might be over-valued as well, raising Exum's stock to the 4th or 5th round. Fuller is a late first round pick, and a real value there.
I see Gayle going before LT3, maybe as early as the 4th, so that's my big statement for this draft; we'll see in a few days.
Never have been a cowboys fan but drafting Fuller or exum, LT3, Gayle would make me watch one of their games and actually support them a little.
Dang, I must be the only Lions fan on this board. We have one Fuller (on the practice squad) and I would love us to draft another.
The Lions have fans? :)
