For the same reason that Andy Bitter is examining every single position for the Hokies during the spring/summer - to keep interest levels higher. Nothing wrong with that. It's all about the branding.

no, I get that. I'm saying from the players' point of view. They were clearly hyped up and you could use that to get you over the hump against a tough opponent (rather than waste it at the beginning of the summer). I see the PR side of it too but winning games is better than looking good

I like NC State. I don't necessarily root for them, but I respect them.
If for no other reason than the way their fans blew apart UNC's ridiculous rep as a "Public Ivy" by kick-starting the investigations into the pre-school classes being offered to athletes.
So it's very easy for me to say: Hell yeah! That helmet rocks.
And that video is pretty slick.
Coach London was quick to counter though, and had his staff whip up a pretty solid video of their own to show off their new helmet design that's pretty appropriate given the dumpster fire Zimaball has become.
YMMV:

There just seems to be too much going on with that black and grey checkered stuff for my tastes. I think it'd look a lot better with matte black instead.

i am not a fan of 2 tone (contrasting) colors on the helmet. i don't mind fading from one shade of a color to another, but not a completely different color. i think the Miami white:gray is ok. i'm not a fan of "busy" helmets in general. less is more.

The helmets are sweet but why waste that much hype on the summer?

Time Out.
Barney is not allowed here.
Looks like a black and red rehash of the Syracuse helmet, with a little beit of texture added to the black.
This looks way better in my opinion. The carbon-fiber is overkill.
Junk.
I did not like it. All flash and no pan.
