Current Odds, as reported by Bleacher Report, (I know, I know - you can only trust them for as far as you can throw a boulder) for Virginia Tech to land 2015 Recruit Josh Sweat is 5/2 odds.
This guy looks like an absolute beast on film and would be a huge force to be reckoned with on Bud's Defense.
He comes in a 6'5" 230lbs as a RISING SENIOR in high school - good luck to the OL that trieds to block him. He could see immediate playing time at VT.

JC Coleman should be a great recruiter for this kid, as they went to the same Oscar Smith High School!

I love me some 5* defensive recruiticorns. They straight up dominate the college game under Bud Foster.
That being said, we were front runners for Hand at this point last year. Not going to get wrapped up in this game until close to signing day. Too many moving parts.
Couldn't agree more. That said, with Sweat we have a guy like JC probably in his ear. For Hand we had probably nobody.
my guess is we had wang in hand..
Wang and Hand would have been a great combo...
I give up trying to understand the minds of 17-18 year old recruits. But If I was Josh Sweat, I would commit to VT ASAP so I can train in the new indoor practice facility and bring a championship to Blacksburg.
is JC Coleman auditioning for the vacant recruiting coordinator position?
Supposedly he's not huge into traveling a ton, or at least as much as some of the other National prospects, so that should help VT. It will be a battle regardless, he'd be a great get of course. Would erase some of the sting of missing out on Hand if VT could get Sweat.
You guys remember how someone portrayed as Josh on twitter last summer and pretended to commit to VT? Well that clown is at it again. I don't know about you guys but it really makes me mad that someone would pretend to be a 5 star recruit or any recruit on twitter.
Side note, easily one of the funniest stand ups OAT.
I find it amusing how easily your comment could be applied to the pedos that get caught on "To Catch a Predator."
People pretend to be everything else on the internet, so of course someone is going to do the same with recruits. No use in getting upset over it (or 95% of recruiting business to be honest).

Haha the ironic thing is this literally the only thing that makes annoys me about recruiting.
We also have Jaylen Bradshaw, who is still in school with him right now.
Josh Sweat just moved up 57 spots on the Rivals 100 to #11
He is now the number 1 player in Virginia and only 5* Virginia player in Rivals updated rankings.
He's #3 overall nationally in the 247 Composite, which factors in all of the rating services. He has a legit argument to being the best player in the country.
Agreed and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being number 1 overall in the country when it's all said and done.
"Hey guys, just saw this kid shot up to number one in the country. Guess it's time I gave him a call and brought him on campus even though we are stacked at that position already. What time is lunch?"
- Nick Saben
Bingo, I was just about to say since he's the #1 player in the commonwealth he'll probably play out of state sadly.
"Somebody find out what kind of car this kid wants to drive"-Nick Saban
"On it, Coach.
And, um, by car, you mean wimmins, right?"

Josh Sweat really should come to the school where its defensive players are legends. Honored and revered by their fans, the Hokie defenses are the bedrock upon which the program has rested. At Tech, Sweat could become more than just another player added to a long list of former players. Here he could become an Icon. Heres to hoping he chooses Blacksburg.
Yes! Agree completely.
The 2nd coming of a Corey Moore type of Terror Dome Dominance.
Really what would help is to have Dadi or Ekanem have a monster season and get into the discussion for national awards and/or draft buzz. Reference the interview with Mook posted on the site where he cites Kyle Fuller and his role in our defense and the NFL.
Maybe one of the coaches could introduce him to Bruce Smith.
Do 17-18 year olds even care about the impact of guys like Bruce Smith?
Maybe not, but someone could fill him in before they met. I doubt Bruce would talk too much about himself.
The introduction could go something like this...
"So Bruce is also from Hampton Roads, the 757. He still lives in the area.
He was a highly decorated Defensive End in High School, just like you, all district, all region, all state yada yada yada.
He went on to play here at Virginia Tech, became an All-American.
Was selected #1 in the NFL Draft. Played in a few super bowls, got selected to like 10 pro-bowls.
Is considered one of the best Defensive Ends of all time... wait isn't that your position Josh?"
Bruce is a perfect example of why a top player like Josh doesn't need to go to far from home to accomplish all of his dreams. I would hope that a 17 yr old would be somewhat impressed by what Bruce has done.
Oh...and by the way...he's in the Hall of Fame.
I respect your point, but it seems like either that pitch doesn't work or the recruits aint listening.
Look at the D-Line misses from the past couple of years. If it didn't work on Hand, Nnadi, etc. who werealready considered to be a VT locks, then why would it work on Sweat?
I want him to be a Hokie. Top rated and from the Commonwealth, Perfect combo, but these days it seems like kids care more about PT, NFL prep, and such rather than tradition.
Also, it's not like UVA doesn't have any tradition. They have two former players, one a defensive lineman, who are in the Hall of Fame, as well as the more recent success stories of Ronde Barber and James Farrior.
I'm as frustrated buy some of the recent misses on the DLine as you are. I'm not sure what the current sales pitch is to be honest with you. I know if I had Bruce Smith in my back pocket I would use him.
There's been recent news of VT hiring a couple of new coaches to the staff to help with recruiting, so hopefully that makes a difference.
And I am GLAD to see the retooled Recruiting Dept and watch them work.
Still the NFL Sack Leader with exactly 200 sacks.
Wow. This movie came out when I was 13 or 14. Probably haven't
seen it since then. Had no clue that was BRUCE!!
