The top 3 are very solid. Tennessee, Penn St and USCe. I personally would also enjoy more home/home games with Nebraska. That was a good set we had last time. In sure they recall Danny coale less fondly though.

Agreed. These teams seem to be the biggest competition is our area for recruits as well (other than those in our conference). I might be inclined to add WV - but really though WV...die in a couch fire.

If the Battle in Bristol goes well, the VT-UT game should be an annual event. I'd almost have it rotate annually between Lane, Neyland, and Bristol, with once every 4 years it going to the big one, so every full turnover of recruits gets to play there if they stay all 4 years. So maybe Bristol, Neyland, Lane, Neyland, Bristol, Lane, Neyland, Lane, Bristol, etc

I like it. Let's be honest, I like anything that breaks real life down into easily sortable numbers. In the future, talk with the it guys about getting your column headings to float so I don't have to scroll back up to see which column is which 12 times.

not sure I'd have Vandy so high up the list, they just aren't perceived to be as good as they are.. and with the change at head coach, they actually may not be very good going forward... I see it as a no win situation, if you win you were supposed to win, and if you lose then you lost to a bottom half of the SEC school.. perception wise it's better to beat a historically good team on a down stretch that it is to beat a historically bad team on a good stretch
still better than ECU though

First: Oh my god Baylor's new stadium is going to be awesome.
Now: Tennessee, Georgia, USCe, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Penn State, Ohio State. The PSU people up here say the Northwestern trip is awesome and they highly recommend it.

Tennessee would be optimal and a great opponent. I am personally a fan of beating the 'Neers every year. Finally, since Maryland left I dont' see why shouldn't rule them out... other choices I see... VMI (for old time sakes), Texas A&M, or ... Notre Dame, dare I say it?

Seems like AB was actually only talking about which 'name' opponent we should play, since all the tuneup opposition was missing. I don't like playing WV, because of their inbred fan base. Tennessee's inbred fan base would be a welcome change. I suppose my question is - aren't we really talking about who we'll play a decade from now, since we're already scheduled up that far with our quota of one Big 5 opponent a season through then? Teams I'd like to see us have home&homes with - aTm, Nebraska, Iowa, Georgia, Maryland, South Carolina, Penn State - those would be a good list.

With the way that Penn State is recruiting VT needs to play them and get some more inroads to the mid-Atlantic area as well as stop Franklin from digging more into DMV area.
I'd say:
1) Penn State
2) Tennessee
3) Ohio State
VT needs to have recruits see VT on the same footing as those programs so that VA kids stay home especially in regards to PSU and OSU.

Recruiting goes both ways though. If you win, it boosts recruiting, but if you get your ass handed to you (see Alabama, LSU) it has exactly the opposite effect. So, I don't think we should schedule teams like Auburn in the near future, but I would put a team like Penn State as a top priority while they are still trying to recover from sanctions.

we just signed one of our better recruiting classes that I can remember and in the court of public opinion....we got our asses handed to us by Bama last year. So,not sure that statement is entirely true.....but from the perspective of a fan....it feels like it hurts us more than it probably does.

That sounds as though the preference is to continue being a paper tiger, losing to elite teams when we do meet them, as opposed to forging ourselves through tougher competition on a regular basis. I think the team needs to measure themselves against Top Twenty teams annually to build confidence and to establish ourselves as equals to the top teams. The fans are owed as much, also. That doesn't mean every OOC game, but it does mean at least one every season. Trying to time a game for when a 'name' opponent like Penn State is down is hiding from the test. The players would want to beat a top team, not a team that's temporarily fallen on hard times.

1. PSU (they seem like great fans to tailgate with and our student section could learn a thing or two)
2. Rutgers/Maryland (only because they're close options)

Ole Miss would be really fun considering we lost to them in a crucial 1968 Liberty Bowl game, plus the Grove has the best tailgate. I also want to see us play Texas A&M since they are our sister university.

Case in point, I love the games at Duke because the tickets are cheap, the tailgates are fun, and the stadium is filled with Hokies

20; Nebraska: They played a home-and-home recently and I don't think anybody was disappointed by those two games.
Exept maybe Nebraska fans??? Games were awesome, but I would venture a guess that the Nebraska fans were a bit disappointed by the two outcomes.
The Nebraska fans I knew were disappointed by the losses but loved the fact that both were GREAT games.

We may be looking for a new OOC opponent for when when we finish our contract with ECU, which would be roughly in that time frame.
