There was significant discussion on a previous thread about us re-signing our Nike contract and whether we renegotiated the deal or just signed an extension. It seems we didn't just extend it but made changes as well.
So our Nike contract just got re-done. That was actually done right before I got here. Its a new eight-year deal. Its significantly bigger than our previous one.

I want that stadium atmosphere and coliseum atmosphere to be yes, tradition, but lets get some life in there and make it the toughest place to play in America
You guys, I think we have the best AD in the country.

Fantastic questions. There wasn't a wasted question in there. I know you put in a ton a work and its extremely appreciated.
It's moments like these that I take a step back and realize how awesome it is and how blessed we are to be Hokie fans. We have TKP, Andy Bitter, a home run AD, an exciting new basketball coach, and BeamerBall. Thank you to everyone that makes this community the best.

I like everything I saw. The thing that impressed me the most? He's meeting with everyone. Every student-athlete, every coach. That shows me the man cares about his people, and it means a lot.

1 - Hokies Respect is going away. That is now confirmed.
2 - Sounds to me like we have new uniforms this year for football. If it were the same ones, he wouldn't have hinted to how much the fans will like them and blah blah blah. Oh, and he dropped an "all maroon everything" in the follow up answer.

Yeah, this really makes it sound like we have new uniforms this year:
I went down and theyre ordered in October the previous year. So theyre already in. Ive seen them. I went down there and I felt like they were I lean more toward traditional. I think every now and then you can go a little modern, but I lean more at Virginia Tech of what put us on the map. So I was pleased with it. I think the fans will be pleased with it. They all have the VT logo on the helmet and all that.
and then...
But if anybody doesnt like them, heck, they were ordered before I got here. [laughs]

Whit referenced the reason it wasn't announced. He mentioned one change he was making in the AD was to make activities more transparent - i.e. stop viewing Hokie fans & the media as the enemy - so that the fanbase could appreciate the efforts more. That is a 180* shift from Jim Weaver's philosophy.

Hey, I think our uniforms have been great, but lets bring it back to a more traditional look. And I felt like it was. But I do not know when we will wear all-maroon everything.
guys Guys GUYS!! Whit said All-Maroon Everything!!!! Even if he said he doesn't know when we'll wear them, he did say when and I am now convinced he reads TKP!!

"Yes. Hokie fans are great. Theyve been incredibly welcoming. But they have also given me quite a bit of advice. And thats part of it. I want to hear what they want to say. And a lot of times a lot of their ideas are very good. Sometimes when theyre not, I just smile and nod."
Ain't that the truth...

Which can be disconcerting, because he smiles and nods at everything in interviews. Thing is, though, I'm confident that he manages to filter through and consider lots of info before drilling down to the best option.

1. The all maroon uniforms were ordered BEFORE he got there (If I got what he was implying)
2. He said the Nike contract was "significantly bigger than our previous one"
So it wasn't all doom and gloom with our previous AD --- but I'm still excited about the new direction we're taking.

I don't think I saw an answer in this article that I didn't love.

I can't stop watching this...
I keep expecting that hand to grab something (like a wand you pervs) but it never does...
i was happy to see that as well, but wish Andy had followed up with what the details are...oh well. i'm sure it will come out in due time...
I am so pleased with Whit as our AD. Great hire.

Andy,
Fantastic questions. There wasn't a wasted question in there. I know you put in a ton a work and its extremely appreciated.

I had the same thought.
I like everything I saw. The thing that impressed me the most? He's meeting with everyone. Every student-athlete, every coach. That shows me the man cares about his people, and it means a lot.
2 things really stuck out at me.

and then...
He knows the Stick it in Chant is awesome, he knows All-Maroon all everything is stout, he is feeling the Thursday night game ......
One interesting tidbit.
The Nike deal was extended 8 years before Whit was hired, but does represent a "significant increase" over the previous deal.
I'm going to just assume this is to bring us up to par with everyone else. Still curious to why this was never announced.

I'm very excited for the next couple of years
It's been a while since I've used this one...
Whit definitely passes the sniff test.

I know its not, but I swear that one girl looks like Winnie Cooper... and yes I am an old man
I foresee great things and lots of victories
Two things I got out of it:
1. The all maroon uniforms were ordered BEFORE he got there (If I got what he was implying)
2. He said the Nike contract was "significantly bigger than our previous one"
So it wasn't all doom and gloom with our previous AD --- but I'm still excited about the new direction we're taking.
