Gilman (Baltimore, MD) QB Kai Locksley's Top 6

Virginia Tech made the cut here.

His father is Maryland offensive coordinator Mike Locksley. Auburn seems to be in the driver's seat for 5-star Torrance Gibson. Virginia Tech has a puncher's chance to land the talented quarterback.

Highlights are on his Hudl.

You can NEVER have enough talent at QB

What I would LOVE to see out of VT is that eventually you see highly rated QB recruits transfer elsewhere because they realize they won't get playing time at Tech.

@CraigThompsonVT

where did you find a video of me dancing???

Both Torrance Gibson and Kai locksley would make great hokie QBs.

Allen Ox

I don't believe Gibson is considering us anymore.

This would be an awesome get, MD will be hard to beat for his services though. Although its good to see that we are in that list with some very good schools.

So this kid would play for VT and not his Dad? Not so sure about that.

The Dude Abides

yeah.. he might want to make his own legacy and not follow in his dads footsteps.. granted his dad never played at Maryland still being coached by him would be difficult for sure.

True. But I think that might be the only reason his dad is a coach at Maryland. From what I remember, he was in some hot water at New Mexico. Didn't he punch an assistant coach and have a terrible win/loss record? He probably made the leap knowing that his blue chip son could be brought in to play for that school in a few years.

The Dude Abides

maybe but he joined the terps in 2011, so thats a long time to wait for your kid to pan out and become a top QB. I think he made the move because it was a homecoming for him. he coached the terps from 97 to 02

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

Good point. I did not know the connection.

The Dude Abides

sadly I think he will go to FSU and want to be the next Jameis.. not with the attitude but play. You have to think they can say look at the talent we are bringing in. I don't see him going to Texas or even Oregon. Maryland is in there since its his home state but talent wise they're lacking big time.

For me is Auburn vs FSU vs VT vs Sam Rogers

Now done with the negative JC talk- holly sheitttt we made a top 5 for a huge need! Would be awesome to see him choppinwood all day and night in Lane. One has to think if we have a good performance against anOSU we have a better chance to land him. He seems to love throwing to his TE well guess what we have 3 and one is 8'9 so you should quickly fall in love with him.. I would love to think that the younger fuller is talking to him for sure, since he went to school in MD and probably is good friends with Kai

I might be wrong but I think Gilman is where Keihn went to HS. My guess is he is more likely his Hokie contact.

Call me skeptical but I think FSU is going to have some rough patches this year. I think Jameis is a talent but he got bailed out A LOT by his WRs that are no longer on the roster. I don't see it as too different from Soph. LT3 vs. Jr. LT3.

yeah I agree but its that shiny thing that FSU has won recently that could be the biggest selling point.. meanwhile we have a really sweet Russel Athletic Bowl trophy.. ohh and that badass Commonwealth Cup!!!!!

I really think this is the year we really see what SL wants our offense to look like and for incoming QB's it will help give them the visuals to see if they would fit in or not. We have 2 incoming QB's now that decided to come for the chance at playing time more than anything. Not saying Durkin or Brewer don't love VT but lets be honest playing was obviously a huge selling point.

Oh absolutely, the luster of the being Nat'l Champs won't wear off for a bit. My point was more that I expect them to 1) fall back a bit and 2) see how good they are at developing a QB. There are a lot of ifs obviously, but if that happens and Lefty can get in his ear about QB development it could help us. That all being said Lefty is fighting an uphill battle since recent VT history suggests we haven't been good at it even if Lefty is.

Edit: We fought hard for that Russell Athletic Bowl trophy. It's very difficult for neither team to score points

I don't think QB is a huge need this year, I wouldn't be surprised if VT didn't get a QB this year.

There are some 2016 QBs that have been offered really early that VT has a strong chance with.

idk about that it might not be a huge need but if we can get a top 5 QB to come to VT I'm sure our whole staff would do cartwheels for days. Why not recruit and see what happens, and 2016 is so far away things can change in hours.

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

Brandon McIlwain disagrees that things could change in hours.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Auburn, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Clemson, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Florida think otherwise....

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

He's visiting in July and from what his dad is saying he is very very high on VT. He and his parents want to get a feel for the campus and coaches.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Maybe I am in the minority but I feel having been an athlete..... I would never have wanted to play for my dad after I became a teenager. Even moreso I wouldnt want to deal with the drama that could come from me being the QB and dad being the Off Coor. Its like working for your parents but not in a family owned establishment

No way buddy, I completely agree with you on this point. Not only would he be the coach but he also would see me every day, know when i got into trouble, overslept, missed class ect ect.. It wouldn't really feel like college at all..

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

I remember a few years back a Colorado QB was coached by his dad. It didn't end well for either as Dad was fired soon after his son graduated I believe.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I mean sheiittt a couple weeks ago people were complaining about Shane being on the coaching staff and not pulling his load in the recruiting trail/ RB problems.. Imagine the nonsense we would have to deal with if there was a coach/son combo on our team.. Not to mention its a QB so one of the most important positions on the field.

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

That's happened at least twice:
Frank and Shane Beamer
Billy and Griffin Hite
Honorable Mention:
Bruce "always on the sideline" and Alston Smith

Shane and Griffin were walk-ons, right? Also neither of them were major contributors outside of special teams. Its not like other players were going to complain about one of them getting more playing time or starting over another just because they were a coach's son.

Not downplaying either players contribution or impact to the team, just the impact of their family relationship to the overall morale and environment of the team.

Dude's blazin'!!

Onward and upward

Wow, awesome highlights!
I think we have a shot with this guy only because of SL. The accolades of Tom Brady go a long way.

"It's a Hokie takeover of The Hill ... in Charlottesville!" -Bill Roth

We could use another QB. With Ford's arm strength concerns and Durkin's lack of a passing history, both of those guys have some issues. We need more competition so the best of the bunch rises to the top.

A QB recruit this year could sit one year behind Brewer and then start. We are in a good position to recruit a QB, hopefully this is the guy.
