I am a long time Tech football fan from Michigan that is going to come down to the Miami game this year (been on my list for about 20 years!). Thursday night ESPN, Miami, can't wait!!! I am having a hard time finding info on where visiting team fans sit (I don't want to buy my ticket on Stubhub, drive down, and end up in the wrong section). I would love any feedback or suggestions as to where I should try to sit that would not be in the middle of a bunch of Miami fans. I am not as young as I used to be so the student section(s) would not be my first choice either.
Thanks in advance!

If you pick seats across from the press box, you'll be mixed up groups, not completely surrounded by Miami fans unless just unlucky. When picking season tickets, I noticed a lack of empty seats not already taken.
Try sections 9-13. I'm sure others will come on here soon with other suggestions.
without looking at a seating chart, I'm pretty sure the visitors sections are 19, 37, and 39. I wouldn't sweat it though, Miami wont bring many fans.
Generally the SE corner of the stadium. Also avoid 101, 102, lower part of 501.
Miami fans don't even surround opposing fans in their own home games, let alone an away game. I'm not so sure you have very much to worry about. Every seat is a great seat in Lane!
We don't have a visitor's section :)
I mean, absolutely no disrespect meant (up in Michigan, you might not even know), but to show you an example of how silly this question is... here's a pic of their usual HOME attendance
I have seen that scene on TV many times and am (almost) embarrassed for them
"We're back...at home watching the game on TV"
-Miami fans.
MIAMI FANS ARE GOING TO FEWER GAMES...Their university ticket sales ads say so....
Can't go wrong with West Side tix. If you do go East Side, just avoid sections 17, 19, 37, and 39 and you should be good.
Am I the only one FOR sitting surrounded by Miami fans? Then you can have nice conversations about how they are "back" whilst we pummel them. But, as said before, even if you tried to surround yourself with Miami fans in Lane it would prove virtually impossible.
Miami fans don't travel heavily when they are ranked in the top 10 of the country. Coming in unranked, there might be 500 Miami fans total there.
I am in the same boat as you knovak!! I am driving up from FL for the game.. I have my hotel just need tickets... However stubhub seems to be pricey for not at 120 a pop but is that realistic considering its a thursday night exit light enter night game. Just trying to see if I should just buy the tickets now and bite the bullet that way I have tickets?
Thoughts? Comments? Legs and brews?
In the past, I've had luck finding a decent supply of Thurs night tickets no matter the opponent from people from out of town who can't make it during the week.
I also have to wait because I'm getting a finalized headcount of some buddies that I'm exposing to Hokie Football for the first time. They don't know what they're getting themselves into...
so you think I should wait and pass on Stubhub for $140ish? I think I can do better closer to game time, seems to be a pre hype thursday night game.
Yes, wait. I wouldn't get tickets for this game until the season begins at the earliest. I have had good luck with getting tickets 3-4 days in advance through stub hub and vivid seats. Usually at or slightly above face value and quality seats. Some people I have talked to have told me getting tickets online the day of can get you really cheap tickets which you can download to your phone. I'm sure you don't want to risk it that late, but I would recommend waiting until Sunday or Monday of that week because that is when people stop unloading last weeks game tickets and move onto the next.
Miami *always* returns tickets from their allocation, which are put up on sale on www.hokietickets.com a week or two before the game at face value. They are in the visitor sections mentioned elsewhere in this thread. Basically the southern edge of the East grandstand, from top to bottom.
Especially if you're attending with a group of more than 4, that may be your best option to sit together. (even if there will be a few Miami fans in the vicinity.
Do you have a hokie passport? If so I could get my hands on student tickets for cheap
knovak, where in Michigan are you? I am in the central portion (20 minutes South of CMU).
Traverse City and I always get such a puzzled look when I mention that I am a Hokie fan.
MSU grad and now I can be proud of them too!
I hear you, I have a VT flag hanging on the wall in our party barn and wear Hokie stuff around town, strange looks for sure.
VT coming up to play MSU would be a game I would be all over if it ever happened. I was thinking about going to the OSU game but......
TKP Contributor Kevin Burke is the Traverse City Beach Bums' Director of Broadcasting, so you're not alone!!
Visiting team fans have historically been in sections 19, 37, and 39. There have also been times in the past where seats were made available to them in the South End Zone section. Keep in mind, though, that the AD has a big say in where visiting team fans sit, and Whit may have changed it up in the off season as I can find no 2014 representation of seating arrangements.
If you have the money available, I'd highly recommend section 11 as close to the field as possible, so that you can taunt Miami players and coaches as you'd be right behind them. Chances of finding seats in that section on a Thursday night game, though, are not very good.
3d version Though not marked.
Miami fans are the worst- good call for not wanting to sit with them. I got f-bombed by a grandma wearing Miami stuff in 2011 for standing up and jumping during the last minute of the game...
Miami fans are bad, but in my experience, WVU fans are worse. Obviously there are the stories from actually going to Morgantown, but the last year we played them at home, in just the same general vicinity in which we were seating, we had 5 WVU fans get tossed out of the stadium/arrested for drunk and disorderly, a drunk hobo looking guy get in a screaming match with the parent of a VT kid (looked like around 9-10 years old) because the guy yelled obscenities AT THE KID, and a WVU fan dump snuck in beer on a VT fan in front of him.
I apologize for the run on sentence. There are reasons I hope we never ever play WVU again, and that game is one of them.
Agree - WVU fans are the worst. I should have added - Miami fans are the worst (that we currently play against)
In my experience they don't even hold a candle to UNC fans. But like I said, just my experience.
I remember our trip there in 2008. As the band is walking to the stadium from the buses, I saw more one fingered salutes than I ever thought I would. One was like an 8 year old with their parents. I mean who the heck flips off the band?!
They also booed us when we (the band) took the field that year. And yeah I had a kid yell some obscenities at me as I was leaving the field. Then, two years later when we returned to play a military salute with their band, I had a lovely woman threaten to spit on one of my rank members because we were standing in "their band's space" (we were there to rehearse with them).
Their band was actually full of very nice people. But man, those fans. Awful. Worst I experienced in my 4 years.
I was about to bring up the trip in 2010 too. IIRC (Which I might not) they booed us as we went to do our military salute together. A military salute. With UNC's band. Wtf.
I don't think anyone else can quite hold a candle to WVU in the shitty fan dept. I was in Morgantown for the 2001 game when we stomped them 35-0. Had more than I can count curse obscenities, and quite a few actually threaten me. I vowed to never make that trip again simply because I am positive I would wind up in jail for knocking the only 2 teeth out of someone's mouth. I rank worst fans as...
1. WVU
2. Alabama
3. Miami
4. GT (still pissed about the T's being taken)
Everyone else falls somewhere behind these four in my book.
Agreed. WVU is the worst, and in my experience, LSU fans were the second worst.
Is it possible for us to convince Whit to take WVU off the schedule? I"ll donate if it makes a difference.
I mean, I won't donate enough to offset the money we'd make on that game, but still.
It's funny how people have had different experiences with different fanbases. I remember tailgating and have a good time with LSU fans the last time they were in Blacksburg. The "tigerbait" shit got old real quick, but positive otherwise. And I know people that have had positive experiences with Alabama fans. WVU is the one though, the one no one has good experiences with. I actually have a cousin at WVU right now and last time we talked he was bragging about the way their fans are. I informed him that was nothing to brag about.
I thought I was the only hokie fan up here in the mitten, good to see a few others. knovak, my first game at Lane was the 2011 Miami game, hopefully you get to experience the type of game and atmosphere I was lucky to be a part of. Excited to have the team come up to the northern states for a few upcoming games.
Apparently you are the third Hokie fan in Michigan ; ) Good to have company!
I have watched the 2011 clips so many times..."These people are losing their minds!"
How obnoxious of a fan are you? West Stands are the more sedate, family side. East Stands have a lot of students and younger alumni. But you can't go wrong as long as you're in Lane Stadium!
West Stands:
East Stands:
North Endzone:
South Endzone:
Thursday night (entire stadium)

I'm pretty sedate but I wouldn't mind being right in the mix!
Thank you all very much, I was blown away by the fast responses and great feedback. I found the 3D seating chart thing online (which is awesome) and it really does look like there are no bad seats in the house. I am probably going to overpay for a ticket just to have the peace of mind of having one (it's a long way from home) although since I only need one, I'd be smart to wait. TBD...
It will be nice once Whit puts the tiered pricing for tickets into place. That way people like you who just want to experience their first game can buy a cheaper ticket at the top of the South Endzone and not a ticket that has the same face value as a front row seat.
If you like to watch the actual x's and o's I highly reccomend the east stands (west is typically a tad overpriced although it is more sedated). You can usually get a decent bargain on the east
