FSU Rides GPS Technology to Title - ESPN Article

I'm not sure if any of your saw this, but it's worth a read. It's very impressive what they are doing with the data and what the future holds for them as they continue to develop and refine it. I'm guessing some of those recruiting battles with FSU are MUCH harder for our coaches to fight when they are going up against something like this. I would think an engineering school like VT would LOVE something like this. Someone tweet Whit!

I hope Whit does this.

Key right here. this is what they were able to do with this tech.

With information gleaned from the GPS devices, Florida State virtually eliminated soft-tissue injuries -- muscle pulls and strains -- and Fisher adjusted the team's practice schedules to reduce midweek workload and ensure his team peaked on Saturdays. The more FSU's coaches learned about the data delivered by the GPS systems, the more the team's conditioning and practices could be tailored to the specific needs of each player.

That is ground breaking stuff.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Send it to Whit!

...so who's going to pay for it?

There's the issue. Is this going to be funded by boosters like it was at FSU, or can the AD pay for it and use it for multiple sports? NBA teams are using it, I'm sure soccer would love to have it as well, having a plan to use it with other sports may be a good selling point even if it diminishes its effectiveness for the football team.

There's a joke about keeping tabs on the criminals on the football team, but I just can't quite come up with it right now.

how about: "FSU was able to reduce the number of devices purchased by using data from the ankle monitors many of the players were already required by law to wear..."

or "FSU was able to reduce the number of devices purchased by using Winston's five finger discount..."

Such tackle. Very D-Line. Wow.

"You see, officer, Jaymus couldn't have been shoplifting from Publix, cause as you can see from our GPS tracking history, he was walking out of JC Penny at the time"

VT needs to start using this NOW. We've been behind in some areas, we need to start leap frogging with anything that can help us get back into the mix. Recruits will love this stuff - it shows you care about them in an objective, measurable way. We should be able to spend that money this year. If we don't, its another year lost.
The secret is out, we need to do this NOW! Does the VT coaching staff know about this stuff? Where is our inside the staff TKP guy? Haven't heard from here recently.
