Says his commitment to VT rates an 8 out of 10, and plans to visit Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Georgia.

I can't figure he'd decommit from DBU for a school that does not rival VT's DB reputation.

What is Georgia Bulldog doing? Are all the SEC teams only offer after VT has done so? Hopefully Mook doesnt fall for their trick. GO HOKIES!

Was hoping the title left off the word "stars". Now I'm a little upset.

Sorry, I was playing off the "Dee Fullwood is Down to Four" headline, as Mook appears to be diverging instead of converging.

Reality has a mighty pimp hand.

You should be relieved. If he got his 5th star Bama would have offered him yesterday.

8 out of 10... So its not a commitment. What is the point of calling it so?

'Its easy to grin, when your ship comes in, and you've got the stock market beat,
but the man worthwhile, is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat'

Its a % and I think its dumb. At this point he should say I am opening up my recruiting again but VT still leads. A commitment is 100% not 80% in 20% out looking for a hotter date

Take into account that one of Mook's family members is a poster on this site and Mook could read this site as well. Let's ease off criticizing him as when he committed we all knew he was going to keep his options open and continue to look around. The staff just needs to get him back on campus and continue to recruit him hard. Remember Marshawn Williams nearly decommitted a year ago. I think that Mook still signs with the Hokies, but I also fully expect for him to keep his options open as well.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

i didn't say anything disrespectful.. I would love for him to come here and its 1000% ok for him to take all the visits and looks he can get, make sure VT is still #1 and a 10 out of 10! I just think its a lame article if anything

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

Well hey, it's his college decision anyways. Plus, how often do you get to visit 5 great football atmospheres for free while getting to tour the facilities and be treated like a king for the day? Shoot, I'd jump at that chance no questions asked. He still keeps in touch with Dean Gray and tells him about all the visits, so I'm not really all that concerned here. Let the kid have some fun.

I have to agree with JCtaughtMe...I don't think we need to tippy toe around the recruits and sugar coat the situation, as long as we aren't disrespectful. Mook himself said he was 8 out of 10....those were his words.

I does bother me that players "commit" but don't truly "commit". 100% is a commit, not 80%.

That being said, Mook does seem pretty solid and I would love to have him stick with him 80% committment to the Hokies.

VHokie

It's been common knowledge that he was taking the other 4 for quite a while now. So he added one more. I don't see the need to get worked up over it. I think he has a ton of potential and should be excited to play for Gray and Foster, which I think he is. As with a lot of things, you only get a finite window where everyone wants you and is courting you. Once you get to training camp that changes.

It could be he wants to come to VT, but wants to enjoy visiting other campuses also. It's a hard question to answer if that is the case... if you say 10 out of 10 do you run the risk of the other schools cancelling your visits? if you say 0 out of 10 you look like an idiot for already committing.. sounds like a perfect answer to me, if anything it's just a stupid question

Until he decommits he is committed. Stop trying to understand an 18 year old....

If I was in any heavily recruited player's shoes I would take full advantage of all my visits even though I would commit to tech in the end. I would probably tell CFB of my plan too. I might would even troll UVA and Saban

If only I could give you more legs for this. I would do the same and have thought this quite often.

If you play it, they will win.

Holland Fisher's recruitment all over again.

I really can't see why any DB prospect that wants to showcase his skills would go anywhere but VT.
We ask a lot from our DBs, and we put them out there on an island 3 months after graduating high school. Big lights, big crowd, big pressure...big freaking deal playing DB at VT. Let's never make any mistake about that. If he thinks he's ready to roll, he'll be coming to VT.

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

If this kid's twitter account means anything, I usually only see him tweet about other schools when they offer him. I've seen him tweet about VT and specifically playing with The Rock at VT quite a bit.

Comments like these aren't productive. How should Mook react when he reads your comment? Do you think he likes to be called "doneski." The tone of your comment sounds like "good riddance." Fortunately for Mook, I'm sure he can just see this as a blind comment and he will continue to keep the Hokies as his #1 until signing day. The cat comes home.

While I continue to greatly enjoy the original content on TKP, I have unfortunately started to see more and more comments that make me question if it would be better off not having a comments section. There's a good reason TKP had a meteoric rise in popularity in the first place, and a large part of that was the friendly, civil community that had formed. However as with all websites that encourage user contributions, it's a delicate balance of maintaining that community atmosphere and not being overrun by a few... boisterous personalities.

Everyone has an opinion and we're all used to having the right to voice that opinion, but take a moment to think twice before you post. This community should augment your enjoyment of VT football rather than serve as a personal sounding board for complaints.

Best of luck to Mook in his college decision. VT is a great school and incredible community with passionate fans and an excellent history of DB success. We all hope to be cheering you on as a fellow Hokie in Lane Stadium.

Well said. It seems like every day we have a topic that devolves into some sort of argument. I think about weighing in on those threads, then (insert Nathan Fillion GIF that vtfly posted above). It used to be that downvotes were as common as TimeCop timeouts, but now they're about as frequent as a Bucky Hodges growth spurt.

"Exit light..."

With great turkey legs comes great responsibility.

When someone like you with a boatload of legs steps into one of these now too frequent pissing matches/downvote fests and says something like, "that's not how we do things here" or "don't downvote for a difference of opinion, read the Community Guidelines", it helps teach newer TKPers the way this community works. When long-time members keep there mouths shut, the newbies are left unchecked. If I protest inappropriate down-legging or pissing matches, it doesn't have the same weight as you or Wise stepping in to set people straight. Additionally, unsure TKPers without a ton of legs are more likely to speak up if they see their opinion is shared by the "old heads". Eventually, those that want to belong will learn to play nicely. Those that don't will be shown the door. I realize that you did not ask for this type of responsibility/opportunity, but you have the turkey legs/street cred do make a difference.

That's a good point, and I appreciate the fact that there are some of us who have earned that respect. I do occasionally make such comments, though admittedly not often, because there is also a tendency among many to go, "well who made you the boss?" and get all offended, which could spark a whole other debate. But it's something worth noting.

"Exit light..."

I would agree, when I first joined I made a couple posts a day. Looked at the meme's/gifs and the leg system was nice! I started out rough I think, but even then i would type my comment, re-read it and then say is this make sense or am I just whining. almost 3k legs later and I understand the system, the board and am posting stuff here all the time.
I got -negative legs on a post at the top of the page did I bitch and moan and downvote people about it no. I see the points they made and move on.

I would say that the pissing matches shouldn't have to happen although its nice to have your opinion heard as long as you're respectful. Its one thing to disagree its another to do it with a rude attitude and be belligerent about it

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

I went through the exact same thing when I was getting started. As for the pissing matches, honestly I completely ignore them and it kind of annoys me when they get started. I just end up scrolling through an entire thread without reading a majority of the comments because I don't need the back and forth. I was afraid that as more people joined, the more we would devolve into something like TSL, but I think overall the community had maintained it's self governance fairly well

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

I can tell this is pointed at me. Look, I apologize for my negative outlook on this kid, I usually don't do that.. I am a very passionate Hokie like we all are on here. I want the coaches to land the best prospects we can, and Mook is one of them. I guess it was my way of expecting the worst and hoping for the best. Like I said in my previous comment, I hope I am wrong. This kid seems like he would thrive as a Hokie and has a incredible future as a football player and person, no matter where he goes, sometimes my emotions get the best of me. From now on, I will try to have a better outlook on things, recruiting, coaches, VT football, etc. My apologies for those who I upset on this board from my past comments. Go Hokies.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

I should say sorry for calling you out. And I will admit, it can be hard to stay positive when VT has had so many sour recruiting moments. And I completely feel this sentiment at times. But, when we're still in the game, I believe we have to be positive. Sure VT will lose out way too many more times, and maybe even Mook will make a last minute change before signing day. But until then, I believe we gotta say, "Hey Mook, VT is awesome. Come rebuild this program to National Championship levels." Winning and losing is infectious. Let's get back to winning.

🦃 🦃 🦃

I think the comment section and community interaction is what makes this place so great. If I turned off the comments, TKP wouldn't be TKP, so there are no plans to do that. As you pointed out, it's a challenge to maintain the civil / intelligent discussions as any online community grows. Read this by Paul Graham if you're interested in more theory behind it: http://www.paulgraham.com/hackernews.html.

I'm proud of the way things have matured as the site has grown. There have been a few instances where people have gone off the deep end and violated the community guidelines, but they have been few and far between. Because I don't charge folks for a subscription, I can maintain a zero tolerance policy with respect to respecting the community guidelines. Additionally, I think the longer tenured posters here do an excellent job of setting a good example.

Everyone has an opinion and we're all used to having the right to voice that opinion, but take a moment to think twice before you post. This community should augment your enjoyment of VT football rather than serve as a personal sounding board for complaints.

I'll co-sign all of that.

Dont know why but this is how i feel sometimes when I try to follow recruiting.

Did you really join the site JUST so you could post that?

EDIT: BTW, upvote only because it's your first post and you need a chance to redeem yourself, but that was probably not the best way to introduce yourself.

Why does he need to only post positive thoughts about a recruit? He didn't say anything derogatory toward Mook and didn't break any community rule on TKP. I'm not going to upvote the comment but people shouldn't be downvoting it either just because he's being pessimistic about a recruit coming to VT. Yes, recruits read the site but also this is a fan site. A site where fans have the opportunity to vent frustration. See the game day threads for every game since TKP has been hosting them.

perhaps he could have elaborated more as he did below but still no reason for downvotes here.

It's one of those "clearly you were asleep during what we just said" moments after everything above was about how people need to lay off the guy. The whole "you're either in or out" mentality with commitments and 17/18 year old kids is silly. Let them take their visits. In the same way with relationships, I'd rather they know what else is out there and realize that we are the best for them than to be harassed because they aren't 100% committed to us.

Or even further, the old "post as if you were talking to someone face to face, not as some anonymous internet poster" advice might be a good suggestion. I'm kind of new here, but I'm going to take a wild guess and say we might be as close to that scenario as is possible in this particular case.

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

Also, another good rule is - look at context. A certain jreynolds06 has been posting very credible information about Mook (someone he might know quite well) indicating that there's nothing to worry about. Then some random person comes along and makes some dismissive comment about the kid, ignoring the facts that have been laid out by someone who might actually know something about the situation.

"Exit light..."

I get why palmettohokie is getting taught how to post and I read all the comments above as well. My point is that while his wording is abrupt and he is better to write an intelligent post explaining his comment, posts that are pessimistic should not be an automatic downvote. Just tell the guy to read what Joe and everyone posted above and that he should offer an opinion rather than a quick statement. He essentially said the same below and it was fine.

But people jumping on anyone for a non-derogatory, non-community rule breaking post is going the wrong direction for the boards IMO.

Yea, I think this is another case of bandwagon downvoting, and that shouldn't happen. The original comment can probably be interpreted a number of ways, ranging from depressed to snarky or dismissive. Probably a lot of people took it the wrong way. I agree that this really shouldn't be a post that gets hammered with downvotes; the OP just needed a bit of education :)
