Anyone else book the Holiday Inn Express & Suites @ OSU for the VT/Ohio St? Just got a letter from their GM stating scheduled maintenance is set to occur the weekend of the game and my reservation has been moved to the Hampton Inn, a good 13 miles from the stadium. Huge bummer - got the hotel because it was cheap and relatively close to the stadium. Anyone else in the same situation?

Ladies and Gentlemen: How not to run a business.
Renovate your conveniently located hotel during football season? You're at Ohio State - YOU CAN DO THAT!
Ha. I thought this was the start of a "I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night" and this is my master plan for beating OSU thread.

"Hey Boss, we got a lot of reservations coming out of the 24060 zip code"
"I'd rather be empty then full of Hokies, move them out by the airport"
I had to cancel my trip :( ... found out my wife is deploying in September (Afghanistan ) so I'll have the kiddos. Talk about bummer.
Such is life as a military couple I suppose
That sucks.
We appreciate her service!

Where? I'll be heading back to that part of the world in December.
I have an empty room ~4 miles from the shoe. Just saying

Social media is a powerful tool. I have friends who have gotten rebates/freebees by tweeting complaints to chipoltle, carmax, comcast, delta etc.
Also, when you have a great customer service experience (especially with travel staff) mention positives. Always get their name, post on trip advisor. A lot of hotels/airlines will give bonuses for positive reviews.
HokieHollar, what's the address of the hotel you're referring to? My brother had reservations at a Holiday Inn Express right near the stadium. I'm hoping it's not the same one.
3045 Olentangy River Road
That place looks pretty new
We double checked and apparently our reservations are still good. We did book the night the date was announced and actually paid a lot less than what the rate was a few days later.
I got the letter and I'm pretty ticked about it. I'm Platinum status in their rewards program and should be the last person that would get moved out.....so it's pretty obvious they're rooting out those who reserved at cheap rates. I'm going over their head to the corporate office with my complaint but doubt it will do any good.
I just called Holiday Inn's customer care line. First agent I spoke to told me there was no construction scheduled at the hotel. She then passed me to a manager. The manager told me there was a note on the hotel's account stating construction was scheduled September 4-6 and rooms had to be moved. The dates on my letter are Aug 31 - Sept 10.
This is really disappointing. If you find out anything that could help me please let me know. I feel suckered at this point.
I have no doubt there is a little underhanded action going on. I had a problem with the HIE in Christiansburg with rates and having to pay the reservation in full 6 months out, even though it was not required at the time of booking.
I'm sure the planned "renovations" will be cancelled a couple weeks before the game. There will suddenly be availability and the rates will be jacked up.
Update: After verifying there were rooms available this weekend, I called the Holiday Inn Express and they honored my previous reservation. They even upgraded me to a better room. I'm happy.
