Moments ago on ESPN Radio 94.1, rising senior defensive end Trevon Hill announced his verbal commitment for Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech's drought on the recruiting trail is over. Yay! Make that a double-yay! since defensive end is a priority for Tech in the 2015 cycle.
The 6-4, 220 pound standout at Salem High School (Virginia Beach) is rated a 3-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite. Even though Hill had a multitude of scholarship offers from schools including Clemson, Kentucky, N.C. State, Virginia, and West Virginia according to 247Sports, he ultimately chose the Hokies over the North Carolina Tar Heels.
In an interview published on June 25 with Don Callahan of Inside Carolina, Hill noted distance played a factor in selecting his final two ($).
"Those are probably going to be my two schools in the long run — North Carolina and Tech," Hill said. "Most of the schools that I have are kind of far and I don't want my parents making that drive or have the drive prevent them from coming and seeing me play. One's in the state and the other is not in the state, but the one that's not in the state is three hours away. I love all the coaches at both schools. They both made me feel comfortable."
As Hill noted to Ross Martin of CarolinaBlue on July 3rd, Playing in Bud Foster's defense was a draw.
"Bud Foster and that defense. Thats the biggest thing right there. Overall a great environment to be in. The fans are awesome. They don't take losing too lightly. Going in you have to have that mentality that no one will beat you and you aren't going to lose. The coaches are the same way, they have that winning menatlity [SIC]. That's a certain thing I like about the coaches."
Hill explained to Andy Hilton of recruit757 in early June that colleges were either recruiting him as an outside linebacker or defensive end depending on if they ran a 3-4 or 4-3, respectively.
Hill explained that the colleges that are recruiting him are all viewing him that way. It will depend on their defensive set. If they're running a four man front, he'll have his hand in the dirt as a defensive end. If they're running a three man front, he'll play outside linebacker. His decision may not depend on which position he plays. It may depend more on the depth chart and the number of recruits that a school has picked up already.
"A lot of players have already committed to UNC. Clemson has a couple of defensive ends committed. Everyone is spread out right now as far as the recruiting process (goes). (Virginia) Tech is really hungry at D-end. I know they're really recruiting me and Josh Sweat really hard. Kentucky sees me as a linebacker in their 3-4."
Bud Foster has been known to take advantage of versatile defenders. Perhaps Hill's skill set will allow Foster to situationally play him as a "Whip" like Dadi Nicolas against Pitt last season.
Welcome to Hokie Nation, Trevon!

Welcome to the Hokies, Trevon!
I bet UNC fans are hating the "UNCle" tweet now lol
But I'm enjoying it immensely. Does that make me a bad guy?
On the contrary, It makes you an even better person.
I'll admit, I have no idea what y'all are talking about.

Thanks
Listened to it. Pretty excited a Salem Alum going to Hokies
Love the comments:

Sounds like a guy that wants to win some football games, first and foremost. And the rest will take care of itself.
That shoulder restricter is a bit concerning in the photo. Labrum? Rotator? Anyone know?Maybe he can get to VT, get the redshirt, get the medical care he needs and be ready to roll as a R-Fr.
Think on air he said labrum. May be mistaken
Thanks. That sounds like a good possibility of surgery, from my experience. If I were him, I would get on with it as soon as possible to keep the tear from continuing to grow.
He had surgery for the torn labrum this past january, per Chris Horne on TSL. They think he will be ready to go by fall camp.
Good news, thanks. That explains the restrictive brace, too.
I like this guy's motor and nose for the ball. Great news to start the day.
Shout out to Frank for being the only head coach to go to one of Hill's games. Said on air that it was a big deal for him.
But Beamer doesn't recruit!
Welcome to Hokie Nation, Trevon!
We seem to do well getting guys from Salem HS. Welcome Mr. Hill!
Too skinny to move to DT! Yay!
He had 23 sacks with a bad shoulder, complete BEAST. Welcome to Hokie Nation, Trevon!
Jason Worilds flashbacks anyone?
Reminds me of another Great Hokie- Mr James Gayle.Yahoo!
Virginia Tech: Where we play DEs with bad shoulders just to try to make it fair.
Excellent news right there. Word from #SOURCES indicates July could be interesting for the Hokies on the recruiting front, so this is a great way to kick off what's sure to be an eventful month.
Who else are we going to be hearing about?
Deshawn McClease is making his decision in Mid July; we look good there. Adonis Alexander, a 6-3 200 lb safety from NC is making a decision on July 12th; all signs point to good news there as well. The 247 guys also think Damien Dozier is close to a decision as welll
Dozier would be a linebacker at VT, correct?
I think a hybrid LB/DE guy. I know at the camp in June he practiced as a DE, and was the best DE in all the drills, but there wasn't a whole lot of talent at that camp. He is listed on 247 as an OLB, though.
Sounds good, thanks.
Yup, all of those guys.
After the past two mos...YES PLEASE.
Finally! YES!!!
Check out his twitter (@GrinDntStopHill) he is ALREADY recruiting players to Tech.
how does this get a down vote, maybe a mistake though....
Anyways, this is one of my favorite parts about recruiting, is when Hokie commitments start recruiting other players to come to VT, just love it. Go Hokies!
Awesome. How can there be a down vote for this?!??
Anybody else listening to the show notice how Trevon said I believe his uncle was the first African American to graduate from VT? That's awesome.
Well now that's cool. I like the history connection.
Hill already recruiting for VT.
For people not familiar with twitter, inside the quotes is what Deshawn McClease said and Hill responds with the recruiting pitch.
Well, lay some good yards down at VT for 3-4 years, you will definitely be going out of state come draft time.
hey-yoooo!!!
Ayyyyy-O
Sounds like he either wants to go out of state, OR he's talking about YouVA!
Loving this! Boy were we in need of some good news...instead, we received great news! This kid looks stout. Big frame, tenacious, really throws his body around. In one play, in pursuit, even pushed through his own teammate to level the ball carrier. He reminds me a lot of Keihn; raw, big hitter, hungry. Excited about this player, excited about the prospects left on the board, excited to kickoff fall practice, excited to be excited! (Oh wait, do I sound like Tebow? How exciting!)
#339 in the background of the original picture is a big dude. anybody know who he is?
Good observation.
Name: Oluwole Betiku. Nigerian.
HS: Bishop MacNamara
Offers: MD and Hawaii
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 250+
Position: DE
He is predicted to choose the turtles. It seems as though he has interest in VT, but no offer on the table. Being that he is a recent immigrant from Africa, he had zero exposure to American futbol. His sport of choice was basketball. According to MD's football blog, he was offered a scholarship by them before ever playing a down. Since attending this camp, recruitment (and attention) has picked up dramatically. Great question, you peeked my curiosity.
thanks for the info. i think coaches could teach him a move or two. it wouldn't be the first time we've offered a project.
New commit eh?

Is the nickname "Tre Sacks" taken?
(I guess technically it would be Tres (with an accent), and grammatically "beaucoup" would make more sense, but it's all French, so never mind)
Sweet! Good pick up right here and rated 4 stars by ESPN if that means anything. Hopefully this becomes a new trend! Go HOKIES!
Lets hope this great news jump start the 2015 recruiting cycle for TECH.
Great news!
