UFC Jim Miller

Not sure how many others follow MMA but former Hokie wrestler Jim Miller fights Cowboy Cerrone tonight. It is the 5 round main event. Will be a pretty awesome fight since both guys always come to fight and are looking to finish quick. Main card starts at 9pm EST on Fox Sports 1. Tune in and support a fellow Hokie!

I follow UFC for sure. I also follow Jim Miller because he is from Sparta, NJ. I lived in Sparta for a year, so I had that connection also.

He is currently fighting out of Whippany NJ, which is also right down the road from where I grew up in Caldwell NJ.

So yes, I like Jim Miller and will be rooting him on.

He only wrestled for one year at tech....then left because of "disagreements with the coaches".

VHokie

It was pretty cool watching the UFC prefight video since it showed him training in the gym he and his brother are opening.

"disagreements with the coaches"

convo went something like this:
Coaches: Jim you can't literally beat the shit out of your opponent
Jim: Why?
Coaches: well... because... uh...
Jim: Fuck this... I'm leaving

I grew up next door in Jefferson, my brother lives in Sparta currently.

Not only is he a Hokie, but he was a damn walk on to our wrestling program.

Thats right, kids... Our wrestlers are so badass our WALK ON players go on to compete in the UFC.

I can honestly say I had no idea we had a Hokie in the UFC.

I also root for: The Keydets, Army, TexAggies, NY Giants, NY Rangers, ATL Braves, and SA Brahmas

Was about to say the same. I'm a huge fight fan and have watched Miller fight a ton but had no clue he was a Tech guy.

Thanks for the info. Big fan of the UFC, and was wondering if we had any hokies in the mix...will definitely be rooting our boy on tonight! When did he wrestle @ Tech?

He was born in '83, so I'm going to guess he wrestled sometime between 2002 and 2006

That makes him my age. How about that.

A little bit of Googling returns him on the roster in 2002.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Right on, thanks! Looks like it's Exit Light for Cerrone!!!

His brother Dan is also a UFC fighter. Jim is exactly how he appears in interviews and articles. Down to earth, brews his own beer, even built a bow from old furniture.

VTMidge

Wait... is he Sam Rogers dad?

Wait-is he Chuck Norris' daddy?

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

STICK IT IN Army of Virginia Tech

Jim won his 47th UFC fight tonight via guillotine choke in Round 1.

lol I knew I had a Jim Miller thread in here somewhere. Didn't want to break any rules and start a new one haha.

VTMidge

I think if the thread is 12 years old you can start a new one without any complaints

Dang, this thread is older than my TKP subscription

I'm low key impressed he knew this thread even existed so he could Lazarus it.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I mean, he did author the thread originally, so he had a leg up there. But still, I don't remember threads I started even 1 year ago. Going back 12 is a huge pull

It's funny what you remember sometimes. After 40 short term is gone, but the random stuff from ages ago I know spot on. I think part of it also is trying to forget VT football the last 10 years my brain has decided to block everything lol

solid tactic lol. easily forgettable anyway. I hope the next 10 years is unforgettable. We'll see.

You dont keep a spreadsheet of threads you started? I thought everyone did that.

Well, I also did not translate an entire bible either so.....

This is going to be great for the ACC.
