I'm happy to have McClease on his own, and if he can help Tech out with Sweat, that'll be fantastic.
I just think about it and I can see Sweat absolutely destroying one side of a teams running/passing game. With him playing stud, he'd be in the QBs face on every pass. In Bud's system, that means turnovers all day... Omg I want to see that!

I always feel this way as well unless we've been a team that have been a favorite since childhood or something. Until we routinely get into the top 10-15 I think it will be harder to land such highly touted recruits when going against the likes of OSU, Alabama and others that are routinely in the discussion for the national championship. Hopefully the playoff system gives us a little more credibility towards being a contender there one day especially since they will eventually go to the top for the playoffs.
But I seriously hope we land Sweat and a couple other top end DE's that we are looking at.

Nah you're just not letting hopeless optimism blind you. Of course I would be stoked if we got him, but no matter what people say in terms of our current position with him, I still put our chances at slim to none.

I think our chances of landing Sweat will improve if we win 9-10 games this season and really increase if we pull off the upset against OSU. We need a better record against top tier teams to get top tier recruits. None the less I would love to see him with the good guys.

The people that I have talked to have said that Josh is not at all like the 5 stars that have spurned VT in the past. He doesn't get caught up flash and glamour of the big time schools, he and his family are doing some serious research about where he wants to go to school. If he doesn't pick VT (I think he will) it won't be because the coaching staff can't close like in the past. He is probably the most mature 5* player in years and will do everything in his power to make the right choice.

Yeah that was pretty much the word-for-word description of Hand and why he would pick us last year, except Hand even came out and publicly said he loved us and wore Tech gear everywhere which Sweat hasn't done. So I'm not getting my hopes up at all.

Does anyone know what recruit we signed was rated the highest in terms of number? I know we've had some five stars, just curious about composite rankings and such.

Number 1 in the nation? I'm going to say he'll take his time, his trips, his food, his meetings with coaches, his ideas for what each school can do for him in academics and sports, and then make his choice.

VT lost a DE by the name of Fullwood this year because he wanted to play with his friend at KU. I hope Josh Sweat feels the same way about his close friend & teamate Deshawn McClease.

Being a Redskins fan and Hokies fan, I've come to the expectation of everything always ending in a disappointment... This seems like it will have a familiar outcome.

I know you guys want to compare Hand and Sweat but not to sound defensive but you're joking yourself if you do. Hand was a guy who loved VT a lot but when coaches and "handlers" started getting in his ear all of sudden VT had no chance against the flashy and big time schools. Sweat has similar people and coaches in his ear but he just isn't falling for that kind of stuff. I would actually compare Sweat's recruitment to that of Tyrod's and that's not just me saying that, a former VT player who knows Sweat and Hand both very well has said they are TOTALLY different. I know Sweat and Hand may seem extremely similar but trust me they're not.

That's the composite, 247's come out later today and it wouldn't surprise me if Sweat is number 1 overall.
Thats good news for Josh. If he commits to the Hokies, the defense could be a lot better. Bud Foster would get the best out of him.
I just got chills thinking about Sweat on one side and Dadi on the other.
It could be the signing of year if we could get Josh, can't imagine a signing much bigger to help program to take off!

Maybe I'm just a jaded Hokie fan, but the higher he gets on these lists, the lower I think our chances are.

You and I have almost identical profiles. CEE class of '12 working civil in nova...
Yeah I guarantee we know each other; I'm not really the quiet type. I kind of like to keep some anonymity on here, though...
I'm with you on that.

Thanks for sharing. This is great to hear. I hope he picks the good guys 'cause I really want to see him chasing down QB's in Lane.
I would love for him to come in and own that lunch pail every year he remains here.
I remember a lot of similar things being said about Hand last year.

Except Sweat has said that Tech will be in it until the very end, Hand eliminated Tech early.
"Except Sweat has said that Tech will be in it until the very end"
Sweet. I love that part the best. I want this to tantalize me, too...maybe even announce Christmas Day this time...
Gave VT the back-Hand
The new rankings are out and Sweat is number 1 in 247's which also makes him number 1 in 247's composite rankings as well.
CAN I HAS NOW??
Right you are. I jumped the gun. It is edited now.
Also, note that Tim Settle dropped. He is a 4-star.
Wow he dropped around 100 spots.
Settle down
still want him just as bad
Why hasn't anyone posted the "so you're saying there's a chance" meme?
He dropped a lot a few months ago and was apparently not too happy about it.
Jeez, the #1 recruit in the nation seems like a bit of a pipe dream. If he chooses us I'd probably down a bottle of bourbon out of excitement
always +1 for lahey
Yes, basically this
I don't know who that is but he resembles Jim Weaver.
Looks like someone playing Hunter S. Thompson
Rumor has it they are releasing a new season on netflix soon
Now that Josh Sweat is No. 1, lets hope VT is also #1 on his list.
Does anyone know what recruit we signed was rated the highest in terms of number? I know we've had some five stars, just curious about composite rankings and such.
Kevin Jones was number 1 overall
KJ was #1 recruit in the nation
Lets get this guy
what is his timeline? does he want to commit early or is he taking his time?

I know someone mentioned on here that he is looking to enroll early and that means he'll be committing early in football season.
I've seen in multiple places that he plans on enrolling in January, and will be announcing (publicly) in December.
He should be committing at the under armour event thingy. May have it confused but do believe that is the one
I like our chances........

I love the Hokies but am with VTcee and Blackout.....sorry ain't happening
Bring me the Sweat!

But but but they're both really good DE's...
