I love our campus. Glad to see others do too.

I really wish I could find the school commercial from the 2008 season with the quote "This campus is SOOOOOOO beautiful."

Just number 5!? I demand a recount!

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

STICK IT IN Army of Virginia Tech

Fosterball

I always knew we were better than Princton, Yale, and Stanford!

I was actually in New Haven last week and saw Yale for the first time. It pales in comparison to Blacksburg...and I'm not just being a homer.

princeton made the reviews not us! cant claim homerism in this one

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

great pics! (though all that blue with the orange conflicts me)

I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.

We stole their school colors and made them better.

He's no good to me dead.

Sometimes I wonder what on earth I was thinking, when I graduated

I remember this quote summed it all up, when one of the commercials aired during games while I was a student:

This campus is soooo beautiful!

VT '10--US Citizen; (804) Virginian By Birth; (979) Texan By the Grace of God.

Rick Monday... You Made a Great Play...

I also root for: The Keydets, Army, TexAggies, NY Giants, NY Rangers, ATL Braves, and SA Brahmas

Those images are just stunning.

I was at the Lane this weekend just checking things out. I was amazed how HUGE
that video board is. I had only seen it from a distance. But standing underneath
I was in awe. Also, they are making progress on the indoor practice facility.
Seems like I read on here that you can actually get into the stadium but I
could seem to find where. Anyways...it was a misty foggy day and I was still
in awe how beautiful campus is. It's definitely a really special place.

@AMB4VT

just keep checking doors, usually they leave a few unlocked and if you really want a tour of the building i have a guy who has a ton of connections with people who work on the field...hell we could make it a field trip (pun intended)

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Oh believe me I was checking gates. LOL felt like a criminal.
But I didn't walk around the stadium or anything to
keep looking.

@AMB4VT

well shoot post something next time youre in town thats not a game day and ill getcha down there. that video board is one of the most intimidating things I've ever seen up close

Wow I sure do appreciate that man!

@AMB4VT

If you're just trying to get though the gates, the gate at the southeast corner has been open every time I've been.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Ahh...yeah didn't quite make it that far. Damn it. Thanks Mr Crandall. ;-)

@AMB4VT

I also have keys...Just sayin.

suck it LOLUVA

Today I learned:

Blacksburg, Virginia, where the campus is located, is the largest town in Virginia

Kinda crazy to think about.

is largest town leaving out cities?

I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.

a town is different than city. A town must incorporate to become a city. Different tax brackets, reporting to state, etc when you become a city but also opens you up to a lot more funding on state and federal levels.

Bburg is largest town because Blacksburg is quite small without the university and does not need much in the way of governance. With the university population it far exceeds the 2nd largest town.

EDIT: please read posts below as this is correct for VA. the rest of what I wrote is totally true. I swear.

Well, towns are incorporated (Blacksburg, Vinton, Pearisburg, etc.), as opposed to CDPs (Woodbridge, Springfield, Langley, etc.).

Just picking nits...

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

My bad. Was using my home state's definition. +1

i get all that, my point was that for a national pub to just say "Blacksburg is the largest town", the average reader may think it's implying that Blacksburg is bigger than Richmond, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, etc. it just feels misleading though it is technically correct.

I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.

Probably. I think VA is one of a few states that actually distinguishes between a town and a city, likely due to the weird municipal structure we have set up. My mom's hometown here in GA -- population maybe 700 -- is legally a "city" here.

One of the easiest differentiation is that is a City is responsible for a separate school system than the County, a Town is not.

There are four exceptions:
The towns of Colonial Beach and West Point have their own school systems.
Two cities share responsibility for schools with counties that surround them (Fairfax-Fairfax County, Williamsburg-James City County).

To be clear - a town is not equal to a city. If nothing else, 99.9% of towns tend to be smaller than cities, for a reason. Blacksburg is easily large enough to be a city, but for political reasons, it is not. Charlottesville is small enough to be a 'large town'. It is a city. Blacksburg shose to remain a town. Any 60 second Google would reveal its' comparison to Richmond, etc. Maybe it's just me, but I doubt anyone is confused by the 'biggest town' comment making them think Blacksburg is the largest metro area in Va, bigger than Richmond, etc. Even if they are so foolish, then, it should only reflect better on Blacksburg, shouldn't it?

Yes. By law, towns are within counties and cities are not.

Cities are separate municipalities, that doesn't mean they are not 'within' counties, just that their jurisprudence is separate but equal.

Well, yeah. By "within" I meant "part of." Poor wording on my part, I suppose.

We have a very beautiful campus. To be sure, it is not for everyone, as not everyone likes the same thing. If you're into open air, militaristic style rural campus, then it can't be beat. Personally, it resonates with me in the best way. Some others have visited and not been impressed. I've had to resist insulting them, but it has made me open my eyes. VT & Blacksburg aren't for everyone, but they certainly are a source of comfort for me. A late June afternoon on College Avenue several years ago caused me to 'return home' or at least relatively close. That doesn't appeal to all, and I understand that. Personally, there is not much that beats Blacksburg/VT campus this time of the year. (I just don't miss walking the drill field in winter)

FWIW, looks like we're the number one public university on that list.

Everyone, knew this years ago. Suck it Loluva! Amazing pictures.makes me want to come HOME .

can we continue posting those beautiful pictures? they are awesome

This isn't real, I think someone painted it. I don't remember where I found it but I love this pic.
Its my desktop background. Thought I would share it.

This is awesome! I wish they had painted in the goalposts and lines/logos on the field, but that's just me being picky and unappreciative!

I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.

That's actually exactly how the field looks during the offseason, although the grass might be a little greener than it usually is.

yeah, i get that, but since it's a painting(?), i was just suggesting they should have taken the liberty of making it look gameday ready.

I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.

Eh, I kinda like the look/feel of the offseason stadium. It mirrors how I feel in the late spring/summer: empty, sullen, longing...

I'm not so sure this is a painting.

Looks like a picture that went through one of those 'make this look like a _____' filter on their iPhone

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

It's not a painting, it's a photo that's gone through a photoshop process.
Increase contrast, increase hue, put good clouds from a storm in the background type thing.

Well done too. Poorly done and it's looks like leftover cheese, draped on a cheerleader at a whoo party.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

technology...

The campus is beautiful but the cheerleaders are even more beautiful.
