According to Beamer, Brent Benedict is Expected to miss 2014 Season

In late May, 247Sports JC Shurburtt reported that Brent would likely miss the 2014 season, suffered clotting in both his heart and lungs, and was hospitalized. Virginia Tech disputed the claims of Shurburtt's report.

Ultimately, it seems Benedict won't take the field for Tech in 2014.

Get healthy, BB.

Of note, Shurburtt is dialed into our coaching staff. Remember that with the recruiting/crystal ball stuff.

Well that's a bummer. Best of luck to Brent on a full recovery!

Very sad news about his health, but here's hoping he gets well

Very sad indeed. He's a hoss. Hope he gets well.

First and Foremost, I hope he gets healthy and that this issue doesn't plague him in the future. Blood clots are some serious shiznit.

But that said, does a 'medical disqualification' allow him to possibly suit up and play down the road?

He would likely be eligible for another year. He sat out his freshman year at UGA rehabbing a knee injury, so with a second year spent hurt, the NCAA usually rubber-stamps an additional year.

We're with you, Brent. Get better quick, and hopefully we'll see you back on the field pushing people around.

"Exit light..."

I asked Andy about this, and this was his reply.

I'm fairly certain he'd be eligible for another year, but whether or not he actually takes it is definitely up in the air. Tough break for a tough guy.

Isn't it Ironic that Stacy Searels was his recruiter at Georgia and they both ended up together at VT, I'm hoping he can get through this.

Pour some Beer on it

Irregardless of football, I hope Brent gets better and this immediate issue doesn't present life-long health concerns. By all accounts he is a interesting, bright guy and he will be a Hokie that Virginia Tech will be proud of.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

"Irregardless"???? Appreciate the sentiment, but wow.

Scary stuff.

Get well Brent!

F-K!!!

And get healthy BB.

I hope his health turns around. Brent is an awesome dude, i was fortunate to smack a few glasses together downtown with the big man during my time in blacksburg. Heard him tell the story of his brother, talent and untimely passing. BB has a big heart, i hope it starts working right for him. Good luck bud.

Official:

At least if he's not able to play, he gets medical hardship and keeps his scholarship.

EDIT: Actually read the story, so he won't be back on the team. I wish him well.

Here's hoping he earns his VT degree & uses it successfully in life, and that he has a long healthy life. There is life after football. All these guys find it out sooner or later. Here's wishing him the best.
