Just going to drop this quote here....
"[When I played], I didnt know the Hokie Club funded our scholarships," he said. "I think 90 percent or 95 percent think the schools they attend fund the scholarships. And I think that they would have more deeper appreciation for their fans. ... You know when youve got to show up to an event or sign autographs, it wouldnt be as much as an, Aww, Ive got to do this and Ive got to do that, if you knew that person who was coming to shake your hand and say hello was funding your scholarship. I think thats a big deal to know."
so the school technically does not pay/provide athletes $ out of their pocket it comes from boster/Hokie Club. So again the athletic stipend idea for athlete's could work IMO.. all it would take is the NCAA to make a set chart/ wtf am I thinking the NCAA can't even deal with UN (forgot what that one letter looks like its like a half cheerio shape..there it is) C properly.. oh welll.

Great Article. What I really liked out of that is how Whit saw an opportunity for a respected Hokie athlete in his administration as a bridge to the future student athletes. Not only that, but by selecting one with a degree in "design" he is emphasizing the process to solving an open ended problem - future funding from alumni (athlete or not) and the need for the student athlete to better understand the University "machine" that funds athletics and appreciate where their scholarship comes from. This is how you get buy-in from top to bottom!! How perfect a role for a mind that has the right credentials and the right vocational desire that can be expressive with the output.
Whit is a very smart leader. This is very

Not to mention his athlete administrator is a great example of a former athlete who left played professionally and came back to FINISH HIS DEGREE! That is after all the purpose of these athletic scholarships.

I love Whit so much.
KJ is one of my all time favorite Hokies because he hated Miami as much or more than I do.
