"I kind of view him not only as my coach, but hes kind of like our hype man," Byrn said of Moorehead. "When all that stuff happened, when he heard all those quotes, he was mad, man. He was real mad. And he took it just as personally as we did.

I now envision A-Mo as the "what" guy from DMX.

That is DMX.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

I'm starting to get tired of hearing about this (please god let the season start soon). I get it, the receivers sucked during the Alabama game. Let's move on.

Tis a dry time indeed.

The Dude Abides

Coach Frank Beamer was 100% right about hiring Coach Moorehead. I hope he stays a hokie for a long time . ChoppingWood!

The WRs were certainly the group that improved the most from the start of last year to the end. No matter who the QB is, I'd say the offense is in a much better spot to succeed this year.

Let's talk freshmen coming in. What are the chances that Ford,Phillips, Bradshaw, Holland, and Stroman can come in and make their prescense known to see the field this year? They come in more polished than our current receivers and will be looking to play their natural positions which can only help. These are Morehead's guys so he already has an idea for how they will relate. I can envision at least 2 having an impact. I could also see Ford back returning kicks. Thoughts?

Stroman is a CB I'm pretty sure.

But if I had to guess who contributes day 1 it would be Ford.

Rece Davis was accurate during the Alabama game. If folks put hurt feelings aside and look at a replay of the game, there's not a lot of dispute there. Then to hear all season long about the WRs being the reason for Logan Thomas INTs & incompletions - whether dropped passes, tipped passes, or wrong routes run, the fault needs to land somewhere. During last season it was laid on the WRs. Has the narrative now changed? Can they improve this season? They'll have the opportunity to prove it, on the field. Sometimes it takes a verbal 'slap across the face' to wake some players up. Reaching back to a quote from a year ago is a real stretch, but maybe that's what it takes.

There are more tactful ways to criticize a group's play than to call it "hot garbage." On a message board, it's probably no big deal (and, relatively, pretty tame). But on a platform like ESPN, you could easily argue that it was out of bounds.

I don't think the receivers are upset at the criticism -- it was warranted -- but rather the unnecessary name-calling.

Nothing like a long memory, eh?

I bet Moorehead will remind his guys of what Rece said, when in just under a month and a half, they get national broadcast coverage and a chance to redeem themselves vs OSU.

Thanks for posting that (twitter exchange) Andy, and good on Coach M for standing up for his guys. He is right - they are kids, not professionals (like Rece). Obviously, Rece got a little caught up in the ratings game and was trying to be more "outrageous" then the next guy. It is like an arms race out there getting people stirred up just to get ratings.

If people miss the beauty of what was once amateur athletics, they should denounce the "hot garbage" Rece himself is peddling, and support what Coach Moorehead is doing. I know we all need and want ESPN, and "amateur athletics" is now nothing more than a dream, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to reign in the exploitation, and try our best to hang on to the notion that these guys are out there busting their butts, for the most part, solely for the cheers and the adulation of the fans. For that, we should, as Moorehead has shown, have their backs.

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

The receivers improved light years from the beginning of the season to the end. Yes they had their moments but they also had some really bright moments as well (Byrn TD vs Marshall, the Miami and BC games with Stanford's TD standing out and more.) They still have a ton of work to do obviously but to act like they did not improve throughout the season is not true.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Well, wouldn't say light years, but def significantly.

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

I'll say it.

Light years. There were certainly some miscues that we saw in each game but fingertip drops to Yards After Catch - Light Years.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I will say, after watching our WR's against 'Bama, they certainly can't do any worse to start this season.
