As has been expected, VT senior offensive lineman Brent Benedict will miss his final year of football. He will take a medical hardship and will remain on scholarship.

Poor guy. Wish nothing but the best for him and good health. Good Luck Brent!!
Not sure he will be back to football in future. If that's the case I feel for him but classy move for Beamer to keep him on scholarship. Wouldn't have expected anything else but always good to see.
One of the few things the NCAA has gotten right in their rules department is that they allow players like this to remain on scholarship but not count against the 85-schollie limit. Good of Beamer & co. to take advantage of it.
We wish him well and hopefully for him to recover from his ailments.
Best wishes, Brent. Even if you don't return to the field (I know this is a serious medical issue), you're a proud Hokie forever and we look forward to rooting you on in whatever you do.
Too bad for Brent. Much love to you and yours, best luck in the future, and if you ever slim down to below-OL-size, I know a few fillies that could give you a trot.
I agree with everything HOAT said, except for maybe that last part. Because I cannot tell if he's being literal or not. And it makes me just a little uncomfortable.
Get well Brent! Hope to see you on the sidelines coaching up the younger linemen!
Feel bad for him, but I'm not surprised.
Take care of yourself, Brent. This Hokie and Dawg wishes you the best.
I wonder if Brent has any brothers, Searels should recruit them.
Brothers that (hopefully) don't have injury issues.
As far as I know one of his brothers (might be his only one, not sure) sadly passed away in 2008 due to a health issue. God Bless Brent and his family and best of luck if his football playing days are done.
Oh no. That is absolutely tragic and horrible. I had no idea. I've no doubt that he dedicated every practice, play and game for his bro. Major RIP and love.
