HokieSports.com released an updated depth chart this afternoon (http://www.hokiesports.com/football/depth/).
Mark Shuman is indeed listed ahead of Jonathan McLaughlin at right tackle. Laurence Gibson is starting left tackle.

I found punter to be hilarious. A three-way tie at the top of the chart...seriously??!! AJ is the only sure thing on this team!
I also think that's a typo because Micheal Branthover is listed in the 1st team and the 3rd team
The Depth Chart that TSL posted a picture of on Twitter that was handed out shows only Hughes as #1
Sad that there's only one Fuller on the depth chart :o(
But there are two Edmunds
This is true. We're going to have to figure out if the Edmunds genes are as potent as the Fullers
This just in: They aren't.
It's not a knock on them, there Fullers are just in a class with the Vicks.
However, they have much more class.
touche
It's still early yet. We knew nothing about the Fullers as a genetic powerhouse until Kyle showed up and balled out.
That's not true; this dude was a baller
Must respect Vincent as the the first Fuller to suit up. And, of course, Mama Fuller is Fuller Zero, the originator of all true Fullers.
Vincent was as Fuller as any Fuller who's ever Fullered, but we didn't know we had stumbled upon a genetic gold mine until the other brothers manifested themselves. When three of the five Heisman finalists next year are Edmunds brothers, we may have to consider them in the same league.
^ Yes, this was my point. Thank you for clarifying.
I'm gonna send you something for the bag.
No problem. The kids really seem to like Zebra gum--they have a lot of fun with the tattoos.
Someone named Josh Eberly was listed as co-No. 1 Mike with Chase Williams, but now he's not showing up at all.
Atta boy, Josh!
He's a walkon and about 5'9" on a good day. He had one very good play in the spring game that as I recall was documented by French. Still, I'd be shocked (although pleasantly so, as Josh is a really cool guy) if he beat out Williams and Motuapuaka.
I think that was a mistake instead of him beating out guys
Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I'm hoping he can get on the field in some capacity on special teams this year.
One thing is certain with this depth chart: Sam Rogers will Sam Rogers opponents with sheer terror.
Why would someone risk their life and list a backup to him? Notice there is no third string...just "others". He had already vaporized a teammate.
they had to list it as "others" for those players' safety...
Those are probably aliases as well. Kindofa witness protection thing.
Stanford, Byrn, and Knowles are all under Flanker? Brewer is already the #2 QB. Bucky is the #3 TE?
I love the first depth chart of summer. Much like the pre-season polls they don't mean much but give us stuff to talk about.
Edit: Also noticed that one of the 3rd string DEs name's is Harry Boston. I'm pulling for him.
And for those William & Mary and Ohio State spies who are reading this site some double secret super players with names such as Richmond, Washington, Paris and York will go unnamed (ergh, unmentioned) and will be sprung upon you on game day. That is, if you choose to show up since you've already heard of Sam Rogers!
Go Hokies!
Carlis Parker as No. 1 Split End. Interesting...
I found that the most interesting/surprising
That is a kid I want to see on the field.
We know he can run the sweep, and he made a scrimmage-ending back shoulder touchdown catch in the scrimmage before the spring game. At the end of the spring game they tried the same thing and the DB (can't recall who) made a great play. They clearly expect him to take a step forward.
Cant we find a way to get both 3rd string centers in the game at the same time?
Wang Chung!
1) Ronny Vandyke has reclaimed the number one spot at the whip position. The rest of the number 1 group remains the same from the spring.
2) As an old offensive line guy, my eyes went directly to the offensive line depth chart, and man has there been some shifting. Mark Shuman is still listed as the starter over Jonathan McLaughlin, BUT they are listed at RIGHT TACKLE. Laurence Gibson is now listed as the starting left tackle. Gibson is the quickest offensive tackle on the roster, so this makes sense, but you would think that the Hokies would make the change in the spring. Of course, Dadi aligned over right tackle, so if Searels thought that Gibson needed the challenge, it may make sense. Jack Willenbrock (after looking great as a blocking tight end in the spring) has been moved inside to guard. Colt Pettit starts his Hokie journey at right tackle, and Billy Ray Mitchell will start his journey at left tackle.
3) We get to see where freshmen landed. Holland Fisher is at rover. CJ Reavis at free safety. Greg Stroman and Terrell Edmunds at corner. Melvin Keihn at mike and Raymon Minor at backer.
4) I know Eberly is being reported as a co-starter with Chase Williams, but I am looking at the depth chart and Eberly isn't even listed.
I think the offensive depth chart could be VERY volatile over the next couple of weeks.
Do you start OL guys at tackle then move them to guard once they look slow? (like all pitchers in the minors are started in the rotation then move to the pen when they show they can't start.)
If the guys are tall, yes. If they are short and stocky they usually start out inside.
Billy Ray is only 6'3". I thought it was an interesting initial assignment for him.
I saw about five minutes of practice today and I thought I was just looking at the formation wrong seeing Shuman and McLaughlin at RT and Gibson on the left side. Maybe I'm just reading into it, but I think this could be a permanent move for McLaughlin allowing Teller to slide out to LT next year and Alston to take over at LG.
Last summer, the athlete that really stood out to me at the WR position was Carlis Parker. He was very impressive with the ball in his hands and when running past DB's... although he looked lost at times when trying to find the ball in the air.
If he's turned that corner and has really improved his ball skills this past season, I expect he'll make some moves this summer.
Kudos to Michael Branthover on being both the 1st and 3rd string punter :)
Well, Danny was pretty much a 1st WR and 1st punter.
Another thing that's interesting, punter has three No. 1s listed: Michael Branthover, A.J. Hughes, R.J. Warfel. Meanwhile field goal, a much more unsettled position has a clear pecking order: Eric Kristensen, Remington Hinshaw, then Mitchell Ludwig.
#TEAMLUDWIG for kickoff specialist. We Abingdon guys have to stick together.
Team Ludwig's #2 fan! I know tons of people pulling for him here in Abingdon.
Yes! #TEAMLUDWIG - Falcon Pride!
My house also pulls for #teamludwig. I grew up in Bristol and my wife thinks he's handsome. Too handsome.
Live in Bristol, work in Abingdon. Bristol is really growing quickly. It will be ready to show off in 2016 just in time for the biggest college football game in the history of America.
My wife's that way about Luke Kuechly.......
Lionel Messi over here
Know how you feel. My wife has a crush on Willie Byrn.
Yet I bet the starting FG kicker in 4 weeks is currently in the "Others" category.
That's my bet as well. I think he's pretty darn close to the bottom of the page, actually.
Really nice to see Ronny Vandyke listed with the first team. Hopefully he can stay healthy throughout camp and into the season.
All I see is a big dart board with lots of potential targets, it will be interesting to see how it shakes out...
I doubt that Michael Brewer stays at No 2.
Things are beginning to get serious.
The only certainty: Mark Leal has a death grip on the FG/PAT holder position.
If Mark moves into a Juju role and stays committed to Hokies and helps the team in every way possible, as I believe he will, then he will be right up there in the list of players I respect the most. It takes maturity, school passion and just all around badassery to accept you can't grasp what you want in sports and still help as much as possible. It's a big pill to swallow and if he's done it I salute him. That being said, if he left the program early to pursue his education I would totally understand and support him.
I am looking at Cam Phillips as a kid who could shoot up the depth chart. I was so impressed with him film. He will need to get stronger to get off the line of scrimmage and a great performance by other guys who have used their shirt year already may mean he shirts even if he has a great camp, but I bet you hear his name early and often.
Hands, good route running, he is a refined product. Much more ready to play than some of last year's freshman receivers.
pleasantly surprised to see him listed at 190 as well. Definitely the most polished wr recruit coming in to the program in years
I bet there will be a battle between Phillips and Isaiah Ford to skip their redshirt year and contribute immediately. Also wouldn't be shocked to see Travon McMillian contribute in some way (on offense or special teams) this year, have heard that the staff likes both Ford and McMillian.
Cam Phillips will be in games this fall. Book it.
Dadi Nicholas just got bigger and taller in one off-season. Watch out. Bud Foster is about to unleash his defense.
He's been sharing water with Bucky Hodges.... Watch out!
Poor Adam Taraschke. He's listed as the 3rd string center and there isn't even a 2nd string center listed.
Allow me to read far too much into this (as is my right as a die-hard college football fan starving for information and talking points):
Mark Leal is being listed as the PAT and Field Goal Holder. That spot ever held by a QB1? There are no others on the depth chart, and if he's really there practicing with the special teams all Fall Camp... I dunno. Probably nothing. But maybe.
Hypothetically speaking, QB1 for PAT holder makes for a great fake FG opportunity.
ask Schaub and Heath Miller
AJ McCarron did it for Bama last year. Guess that means we're a top 5 team?
Ask Tony romo how that one worked out...
I love way-too-early depth charts. Gets me all jazzed up.
"Place at the table!"
Matt Hill would make a good TE or WR, if QB doesnt work out.
The possibilities at offensive line are exciting, this year might be a little tough still but man, the future looks bright.
So Wang and Chung are hurt?? Wow!
Jerome Wright not with the fullbacks at all? Is that old news?
I know Cody Rhodes is a former Intercontinental Champion...
... but he's gonna have to get his weight up to play LG. Even at 4th string.
