I always read Bitter's articles before looking at the comments. You beat me to it. Well done, sir. I had the image link all ready for posting and everything.

"I think [Wyatt] Teller and [Augie] Conte and [Braxton] Pfaff and Alston Smith, all those guys look the way an offensive lineman should look," he said. "And theyre athletic. I mean, theres four guys in there."
Good to see Beamer can still count. Haha.
Also Ricky Walker is wearing #98. Let's not forget the last one to wear that number was #MANBEARPIG. Here's hoping for a reincarnation.

#4 has some good recent history with Wilson, Royal, and Hall, but I'm sure someone else has the info on which number has been used by the most star players.

I don't have all the historical data in front of me, but I think it will be hard to beat out #4 with all the records, post-season accolades, and draft placement of those 3. At least since the 90s, I think #4 is our "best" number.

That's a bit strong. Having some occasional effort issues in regards to blocking shouldn't put him in the running for most infamous WR ever. He played great that year and made a lot of difficult catches in traffic. He was a very talented receiver that we could have really used last season.

by "occasional" you mean every play that didn't involve him right?
look I'm not trying to hyperbolic but I think describing his tendency to not block as "occasional" is what is strong. The dude was called out on national television for basically giving zero effort when he wasn't getting the ball. I hope he has a successful life but an exemplary WR, even with near record setting numbers, he is not. And I would be happy to consider other WR's that you know that would be more infamous than Davis being called out like that.

His lack of effort cost him playing time. Which makes the stats he put up that much more remarkable because he was getting benched yet still had an almost record-breaking season. I'm not trying to defend his lack of effort, I'm just saying he had one hell of a year catching the football.

all true, but I think that's precisely why I am less impressed with his statistical numbers. While near record setting for me it gets completely overshadowed by his selfish style of play. That just rubs me the wrong way. I totally agree though, had he went 100% all the time then he would have broken records and maybe would still be playing. Anyway, no need to debate it more. both valid points IMO

Well, while he wore a 7 and wasn't outstanding, he did alright most of the time. Besides, I think having more than enough on the awesome side kind of does away with a number being associated with bad. When people see 11, they think of Adibi, not Noel, for instance.

Andy, thanks. Starting to feel like football season!
I'm pleased that the Beams is pleased.
I see Bucky decided to take a knee to even the field in Bitter's twitter pic.

He was sitting on the ground.
That's not a mohawk. Those are cumulous clouds.
Cumulus clouds? Certainly appears so but,
That was Sam Rogers breath.

I wonder what the 'best' number in VT history is...
38
52 was pretty nice also
HA! Well in, krak

Oooh this one will be hard to beat.
#1 has some good recent history as least. Macho, Ex-hume(atar), Eric Green.
I love #11 because of Adibi and now Fuller. Roberts was good at #11 too.

I don't know, no Fullers wore #4.
I vote 3 and 19.
7 has some weight to it obviously as well with MV1 and KJ (for awhile at least)
Marcus Davis also had one of the best single seasons ever by a VT receiver and now Bucky Hodges. #7 definitely has its place among VT's greatest
Marcus Davis is also perhaps the most infamous WR ever at VT as well so... double edged sword I guess

Yeah, hate to say it but MD basically screwed himself out of a full time gig in the NFL.
He certainly didn't help his draft stock with his blocking/effort, but I think he would've made the Jets' roster were it not for his shoulder injury.
There were 2 things they kept referring to about him at the combine: his height and blocking effort lack thereof.
His lack of effort cost him playing time. Which makes the stats he put up that much more remarkable because he was getting benched yet still had an almost record-breaking season. I'm not trying to defend his lack of effort, I'm just saying he had one hell of a year catching the football.

Glennon wore 7 as well. That kinda removes a little.
