Kyle Fuller went to make a play at Bears practice on Monday and Martellus Bennett took offense and body slams him. ESPN is reporting he has been fined and suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.
No need for stuff like this. He could have seriously injured Kyle who is playing extremely well for the Bears and a key cog for their secondary this year.

agreed...no reason to slam someone for playing the ball. weird.
Dirty trash. Which institution dumpster program did that guy come from? I hope Ky's alright.
Played at Texas A&M, and it was dirty and unnecessary, but seriously dude, there's no need to just trash every player/school that didn't go to/isn't Virginia Tech. Have some respect here and there.
I was gonna try and rationalize the statement before yours as being potentially justifiable (some schools ARE dirty, and produce dirty players), but then I looked at the poster and realized that, based on history, it's negative for the sake of being negative.
A) I don't trash every player/institution that isn't Tech & B) it did end on a positive note. Thanks.
I'm not going to comment on your original post but your reasoning here seems off. Just because you end a negative comment with a positive comment doesn't negate the negativity of your first comment. For example:
your comments have more downvotes than fans at a lolUVA spring game. red cars are nice.
See just doesn't work that way. I guess this is essentially where we disagree with your assessment on Marcus Vick as well
What do you mean "we"? Btw, I don't care about downvotes. I used to, but not anymore. If I did care about them I would make it known. Plus (if you'll notice) I haven't brought up MV5 in quite awhile. Why are you bringing him up and what does he have to do with my distaste of Ky getting bodslammed by Bennett?
I should also state (and this is official) that no matter how many times I get downvoted I'm not going to downvote anyone else (unless of course they make a ridiculously uber offensive comment).
Your point above (point "B" specifically) indicates that you said something positive, implying that it should somehow negate whatever was negative. It's the same thing as your MV5 argument - he did boneheaded stupid things, but should still be given credit for winning. It's literally the same argument, and for most of us (that's where the "we" comes from, as you have admitted in the past that you are in the minority or otherwise on your own in your opinion of MV5) it doesn't hold water.
You know, somehow, I'm thinking if we were at a bar in person these convos might be going a little bit differently AND there would probably be a greater level of transparency and understanding. Maybe that's just me though.
Nope, I'd say the exact same things I've said here.
Well you seem pretty sure so I guess I'll just have to take your word for it.
I'm sorry, did you just channel your inner Internet Tough Guy?

Lol! Nah, I was just pondering how this convo would go if we were sitting down and alkyhol were involved in person. But that pic (strangely) makes me wanna watch both Sharknados again.
Leg-up, because I get what you are saying, and think you may be onto something. Really, this comment is a perfect example of what gets so many of your posts in trouble, because you say it in a peculiar way.
First, transparency may not be the word you are looking for. I think you may mean context. And second, you've implied, whether you meant to or not, that VTGuitarMan is as guilty as you in making questionable comments in your conversation with him. His context is clear, as he quotes you specifically, and it seems most everyone understands his meaning clearly.
You keep needing to follow up posts with variations "I didn't mean that how it sounded".
I'd just suggest that if you think that in that social setting of a bar you'd be able to get your points across better, it might be a good avenue to try to put yourself in that frame of mind before you hit "Post".
That said, and whether you intend it or not, a lot of your posts come off exactly as though you were in a bar and had drunk yourself past the internal censor you would employ in polite company.
It's great to have passion for the team. It's not a bad thing at all to viscerally share the disappointments of our players when they face hardships.
But learning to say things in a manner that doesn't come off as offensive (ex: calling someone "trash", saying someone non-Hokie deserves bad things, a variety of posts at or past the line of misogyny, using and then doubling down on tasteless pejoratives) or self-centered (ex: X gets hurt, but your comment is mostly or even all about how you feel bad for you, giant screen-filling embedded pics), will take you far, both online and in meat-space.
Sorry, but wth is a "meatspace"!? It sounds funny. Like I said, I don't care about downvotes or that a number of my posts have been faded out. Folks on here (and anywhere for that matter) can say what they want about me and my posts. Just don't step on my Hokies. That's crossing the line.
You're on the internet. Use it for something good and look it up.
You don't care to take extra steps like that though, and that is why you rub people the wrong way so often.
Look, if your intent is simply to be you, to hell with social conventions, then quit complaining when people "misunderstand" what you've posted, or trying to walk back things you've said.
Does it occur to you that you do just that with your behavior sometimes? For example, and I could be wrong, but I can't imagine someone with the grace of David Wilson would take any pleasure the little moniker DW,FY!, that you, and only you so far as I can tell, think is clever.
TKP is a growing brand, with a comments section that Joe has allowed to be open and largely self-regulating Do you really imagine that your off-color comments are constructive to the hard work Joe and his compadres are doing? Page clicks are the currency of the internet, so I would suggest that making the comment section as welcoming as possible for the largest possible cross-section of Hokie fans is something that all we TKP participants can try to do as thanks for the hard work that the TKP staff does.
It is self-regulating via the Turkey-Leg system, and by the normal social means of just this conversation, where other people appeal to your sense of community to encourage you adjust your behavior.
You can proclaim proudly that you don't care about Turkey Legs, but I suspect that if your count was at zero right now, you might have a different sense of what is acceptable to post.
And you can proclaim proudly that you don't care what other people think, but that is the way of the internet troll, and the meatspace boor. You know the one -- the guy that other people in the vicinity leave to "get another drink" or "use the restroom", but never come back? The guy that is largely ignored so talks louder than everyone else to get noticed?
Don't be that guy. You give up less of yourself than you gain anytime you try to be a positive member of any community.
I actually do. I just wanted to know what you meant by it. Just because someone else out in internet may have attached a generic and mostly accepted definition to doesn't mean it's your definition so I wanted to take that into consideration.
I care to certain degree. But not enough to contort myself into karma sutra positions over it. If someone misunderstands or misinterprets something, I don't mind correcting or clarifying said persons every now-and-again.
Oh I know I step over lines. Definitely admit that. But I flatly deny and disagree that I step on Hokies.
I don't know if DW would or not. Who can really say except him? I suppose he wouldn't think too much of it. If he thought it sucked or was offensive I would discontinue using it stat. There's a story behind it though. During the '10 vs the pretend tech from ATL, I was driving with my friend so I was only able to check updates on my phone. Saw that DW ran back the kickoff to the house and immediately shouted that expression out. That's been my expression, my moniker for him. Some folks have liked it, others haven't. Either way it stuck with me. Don't see what the big deal is. Besides, is RMFW any less offensive? I know it hasn't caught on like RMFW, but it's my expression and appreciation for his superior skills.
Perhaps. And actually thanks for bringing that up. The only aspects of turkey legs I care about are those with less than 1k. While I'm not pitying them I do feel bad when TKPers with less than 1k get downvoted. But that's all really. Good chat.
precisely Guitarman,
thanks for the assist,

(i realize that the cat assist gif isn't directly applicable but I saw it and wanted to use it)
I can't stop watching the hammer and the nail. I don't do that good when I'm right over top of the nail.
One more thing to try to illustrate the rhetorical inconsistency you engage in that many people find off-putting, and then I think I'm done.
You said in the post that started this whole detour
What are you suggesting makes a player "trash" and implies his Alma Mater is a dumpster program? Anything like this?:
No, but perhaps I should've clarified it as "dirty trash play or action/move" instead of just "dirty trash".
Eh not as bad as I was expecting. That sort of thing happens all the time. The one comment that irked me was Bennett's comment about being able to afford a fine. That type of attitude is what gets these professional athletes in trouble.
Regardless, glad to see the KF is making a big enough impact already to get under the skin of their top playmakers in practice.
No defense for Bennett's response, but Kyle laid him out. The league would have likely called him for a facemask, but that was a legit hit.
I don't think it was a facemask, but just a good tackle trying to go for the ball. He pulled him down from the shoulder pads if you watch closely. No contact with the facemask.
I never said it was a facemask, just that the league would call it one. The way the body twists like that, most refs will automatically throw the flag without even thinking.
Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.
In Bennett's defense it did look like that was a good bit of time after the catch and he spun him to the ground pretty violently. His response, however, was way over the top.
The other thing that irked me was it seemed a number of folks cheered Bennett after the body slam. Wtf
Its Chicago, 'nuf said.
I get what you're saying, but it's pretty classless to do that to your no 1 draft pick (who will disrupt many WRs and QBs in the NFC north and across the league).
according to this story, he is suspended indefinitely.. which probably means until everything cools down
Yeah, not too big of a deal, imo. At the end of the day, Kyle is still a future all-pro corner and Martellus is still a mediocre tight end. And of course Jay Cutler doesn't even care, he's just thankful for the cigarette break.
I've watched too much wrasslin. That "body slam" was not at all what I expected to see.
Pretty obvious Kyle was looking to rip the ball free, and not actually tackling Bennett.
Bennett can't have it both ways. He whines that he's just out their trying to improve his game? Well that's exactly what Kyle was doing -- stripping a caught ball is part of a great CB's game. If Bennett doesn't want to face that, maybe he ought to demand to the coach that he be allowed to run routes with no defenders in practice.
In the end, KF said all the right things, and Bennett looks like a tool.
Also, if Corey was on the team, we all know what happens when you mess with one Fuller. Just ask Gator Hoskins.
Forgot all about the Gator incident. Leg for the great pull.
Kyle is out there competing, trying to get better and not let in anything easy. If Bennett wants to sleepwalk through practice and sit on his fat contract, that is his business.
I can see why he was pissed. A DB half his sized spun him to the ground like he was a child.
It looks to me like he went to the ground because he wasn't expecting Kyle to try to rip the ball out. Of course, guys masculinity is hurt, so he has to make up for it by taking Kyle to the ground, too.
I, too, take issue with the "I can afford the fine." attitude.
Meh...Training camp being training camp.
No one gets fined and suspended for Training camp "being" training camp.
Apparently, he doesn't like practice anyway, so it may be a case of paying to get out of practice.
I found Bennett's comment about how he plays interesting:
except that in the face of a small amount of violence he loses his shit. Maybe he meant to say "I'm a dirty player. That's just my style of play."
Violent, huh? That's funny, because he played softer than a UVA defense when in Dallas.
I think what Bennett meant to say was:
"Im probably one of the most violent people on the field. That's just my style of play. Thats how I play. Unless the other dude is close to my size or bigger than me. Then I exercise restraint and pretend to be a pacifist."
You know camps are starting up when people start to hyper-evaluate everything that happens at camp.
This kind of stuff happens everywhere in sports when preseason workouts begin. Guys have been sitting around idling for months, ready to hit anything that moves. They're overly amped up and any little thing can and will start a skirmish.
Kyle is a great secondary player, and very well could develop into one of the best tacklers in the NFL. The way he plays, this won't be the last time he's in a scuffle like this, and that's a good thing. In fact, I kind of wish the VT roster was loaded up with guys who won't back down no matter what.
Holland Fisher will fit this description most likely.
Fights in NFL camps happen all the time, great coaches like The Tuna even encouraged them. I really didn't think what Marty B did was too violent, unnecessary yes, but not too harmful.
The takeaway for me is how much Da Bears seem to value Kyle. Bennett is a veteran, Fuller a rookie, but the organization sent a clear message to Bennett and the rest of the team that messing with Kyle wouldn't be tolerated. At every level of football vets throw around weight with the fresh faces, and this is the first I can recall a non-QB rookie having the team side with him.
I said above that I think its bigger than a Vet poking at a rookie.
MB hates practicing. Apparently, it is no secret around Bears Camp. He was messing around with timing during drills by slow-footing it. They fined & suspended him and cut practice short 10 minutes. Every minute matters during training camp. Thats a lot to do to send a training camp message.
Can you remember the last time a player was fined and suspended for just a camp fight?
I did notice Cutler go over near the end of the clip and appear to tell KF something like - 'Don't sweat it, kid. He's a hothead...'
Yep, it's football. Fights happen. Especially, in practice. One of the biggest scraps I ever got into was with my best friend in high school one on one drills. I honestly didn't think this whole thing was even newsworthy when it first broke, but like you said, it's interesting to note that the team sided with a rookie over the veteran. Guess they realize the worth of a Fuller already.
its a WAR they dont give a freaking u know what... they will kill you this is a WAR! im a f@cking soldier!
- kellen winslow jr voice.
marcellus bennet must be all about the U too!
Dirty Martellus Bennett deserves to be suspended. Now he understands why Kyle was drafted in the first round. Kyle is a shutdown defender.
Not a big deal, but for Alshon Jeffery and Cutler to come over and slap you a five after that then you've obviously gained respect.
Eh seems like:
Also, Bennett should watch his back. Doesn't he know the Fullers roll 4 deep?
Cue Corey Fuller making a surprise cameo as nickle-corner and destroying Bennett when the Lions play the Bears this year.
I thought there is a fifth Fuller? :)
4 deep AND from Baltimore. Better be careful.
Kyle Fuller getting under a TE's skin? Attaboy, Kyle.
Kyle's take on it:
- "Family, you get in fights like that, but at the end of the day, you're all good," Fuller said.
I think that should make this matter closed.
