FOX Sports Ranks VT's entrance at #2 - caption is of Scott Stadium

Clicked the link just to make sure we were on the list and noted that we were #2. I immediately noticed that the stadium wasn't Lane, and was in fact taken at LOLUVA. Funny thing is there are more VT fans than WHO's. Cannon fodder...

wow..

Onward and upward

We have a pretty awesome entrance and exit of Lane Stadium North since we come in with the cup, and leave with the cup.

Aside from how stupid it is to put Scott Stadium...

I will never understand why so many people are so much higher on Clemson's entrance. Because they touch a rock? We touch a rock too, with added Metallica. Because it's an older tradition? There are much, much better and older traditions out there.

They take a bus from one side of the stadium to another, then wait at the top of the hill and run down it.

..........yay..........

It truly is one of the most overrated events in college football. There's no amount of balloons you can release with pyrotechnics that can make that even the slightest bit exciting. They are literally running down a hill while people cheer (not yell, cheer).

Contrast that to Lane Stadium, where people lose their freakin minds the ground literally starts to shake the moment the first chord of Enter Sandman starts to play, and its truly hilarious how people can consider Clemson's better. But then again, I guess that's the difference between yuppie preps who worry about ruining a buttondown and bowtie (Clemson) and the fun loving freestyle fans of Tech.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

If that truely was the most exciting 35 seconds in college football, the game would be dead.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Couldn't agree more. I went to a Clemson game 3 years ago as a neutral fan (not a Tech game) and all I had heard people talk about was the touching of Howard's Rock and the running down the hill. It got me all hyped up to see it in person. Could not have been a more anti-climatic event. It's absurd the amount of attention that that entrance gets. Complete bs

"These people are losing their minds" - Mike Patrick

Seriously it's like every college football media outlet is afraid to admit it's not anything short of spectacular because everyone lists it at the top already every time one of these lists comes out. It's not even one of the two best entrance traditions in the ACC let alone the whole country.

2 of the best traditions in college football - Enter Sandman at Lane Stadium and Jump Around at Camp Randall Stadium. The energy alone in these events absolutely blows everyone else away.

For basketball, its the Cameron Crazies (hate em or love em, thats probably the best environment in all of sports) and, in a shocker, Utah State.

(while we're talking about overrated venues, I'd like to submit the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill. Living in Raleigh all my life, I've been privy to listening to Tar Heel fans and alumni hype up the Dean Dome of this pinnacle of fan environments... went to a couple games there and I was completely underwhelmed. A half-filled Cassell gets louder.)

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Wow. Can't believe I've never seen that Winning Team/Losing Team chant.

That is just awesome.

ditto "wow". my life...up until this moment...was incomplete. thank you alum.

somewhere JW is shaking his head and saying "there is very little respect in that chant".

As a kid that grew up in the shadow of Nevada campus this hurts to watch. But man is that phucking cool

i was always indifferent to the hill thing at Clemson, even having been there to see it in person. but after seeing on TV that they load up on a bus an drive from one end of the stadium to the other, i have lost all respect for it. it now feels like a forced tradition to me. only a matter of time before something bad happens to one or more players running down that hill, and the tradition will be over...

I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.

People/players have been seriously injured running down the hill.

How many knees have been blown out? Let them keep doing it.

#Let's Go - Hokies

i did not know this, but i am certainly not surprised...

I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.

Apparently it takes a lot of practice to get it just right for live TV...

OK, I said no more gifs today.
I lied

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

With all the Orange and Maroon seen in that picture, it can be completely forgiven that FoxSports would make such a mistake.

One thing we know for sure, there was no photoshop needed to fill in fans for THIS game

idiots.
I know there are so many VT fans there it looks like a Lane crowd but, even if they don't know the stadiums by eye, they can't check the endzone lettering?

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Lane North is like, (checks the rosters...), half a Thunderdome.

One Football Team enters, one Football Team leaves.

I grew up in Anderson, SC (15 minutes from Clemson) went to games all my life, and I am currently a senior at Clemson. Running down the hill is the most underwhelming 25 seconds in college football. It doesn't touch Enter Sandman.

...How are you a VT fan then?

How is he not?!
We are Virginia Tech!

I had no connection to the in state schools except Furman, where my parents went, and when I got into football in late elementary school I loved VT's style of play, the lunchpail D, Beamer, etc. and next thing I knew I was a die hard Hokie and always will be.

^My exact response to the last time this was asked. Go Hokies.

Nice. Was it awkward to root for the Hokies when they came to town?

Nope, pretty much everyone knows I'm a Hokie, it's certainly not a secret. I get some grief from my step-dad and cousin (Clemson alums) but that's about it.

There's a chance that after getting my masters this semester, I may take a job in spartanburg, and live in greenville. We should be friends, or at least agree to be very obnoxious at bars once every 6 years when we play Clemson.

so you're assuming Clemson won't win any Atlantic Division titles?

I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.

Of course not, and I'll gladly get drunk for basketball games too. I just wanted to take to opportunity to complain about stupid scheduling.

I can get on board with that.

You'll find lots of Hokie fans here! Got more VT flags in my neighborhood than Clemson and USCe combined. Football watching parties are at Carolina Ale House in Greenville this year. Plus SC is one of the few states where you can legally ride a motorcycle without a helmet if that's your thing -- yay for that!

"Tajh Boyd over the middle . . . and it's caught for an interception! Michael Cole, lying flat on his back, ARE YOU KIDDING???"

I didn't know there were Hokie football watching parties at CAH, I'll have to come up for one of those.

It's hard to not put Virginia Tech No. 1. There's no place in college football with a more electric atmosphere before kickoff than Lane Stadium.

Very true!

Allen Ox

except that they put Clemson's lame ass entrance as no 1.

I almost feel that someone from TKP is controlling all internet content that is associated with LOLUVA. There are too many floaters in the bowl for it all to be a coincidence.

Don't get the hype around Clemson's entrance. I mean they run down the hill. At Lane the stadium starts shaking because the entire crowd is bouncing. I mean you hear the crowd erupt as soon as Enter Sandman starts up. Gives me chills when they show the team in the tunnel while that is going on. I mean it is an awesome spectacle. I think ESPN did us justice in this one showing of the entrance.

Watching this...I'm so ready for the new season to start...I can't wait to be in the stands.

Gosh I was on the field for that entrance carrying cables for ESPN 3D (lol) and it's even louder down on the field than in the stands

nothing beats from Miami 2003 "they are jumping, they are screaming, and it has been that way for the last 30 minutes..." chills. would like to have that atmosphere again!

VT Class of 2017

EVERYBODY was jacked up for that game. Our team took the field looking for blood. GOD we need this kind of swagger back.

Lattimer - the Program

It’s later than you think.

I was there - the entire hour prior to kickoff inside the stadium was unreal.

I've been to a few...I was not impressed with Clemson at all. Maybe things have changed a bit since their winning ways, but even being a part of the crowd for the game was underwhelming.

Welp, they published this on August 4th and it's still not changed?? How does a mistake like that get by a major media company for a week??

I'm emailing them now because this is ridiculous.

You know, in a way they may be right. Tech entering Scott to Enter Sandman may be the second best entrance in college football...

Somebody there probably searched for Lane Stadium and thanks to all the "Lane Stadium North" comments, thought it was Lane Stadium.

Ha, they changed the pic.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Yeah, it's amazing what they'll do when one person sends an email calling the credibility of their journalistic and reporting abilities into question. I'm actually impressed at how fast they responded and fixed it.

If this were true, they would update it so VT was #1.

Oh, Clemson doesn't just run down the hill, they release orange balloons too.
That makes all the difference.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Let's not forget the agonizing suspense of trying to figure out what comes after the "O" in "Clemson."

And they rub a rock... from Death Valley, California where it was surrounded by a few thousand or million other rocks just like it. A rock that served as a doorstop for a few years. Because, nothing says football tradition like a totally average, desert rock/doorstop.

I didn't know that was the actual origins of that tradition until now. Howard said, "Take this rock and throw it over the fence or out in the ditch...do something with it, but get it out of my office."

Hard to make up something that lame if you tried.

How I picture Clemson fans

Hi y'all -- longtime TKP reader, first-time poster. Had to chime in on the rock thing. I've lived in Clemson territory for several years, and been to some of their home games. Heck, I've even sat on the grassy hill while the team made their entrance. Gotta say I just don't get the hype. My Clemson friends never seemed too excited about it, either. The only reason we were on the hill to begin with is it's easier to stretch out and work on your tan from there.

"Tajh Boyd over the middle . . . and it's caught for an interception! Michael Cole, lying flat on his back, ARE YOU KIDDING???"

Watching a game from the Hill (common student location) is an awful way to watch a football game. Coincidentally, it's a great way to have knee problems.

Every time someone confuses us with the hoos (even Jack wears maroon)...

has anyone else thought that they should keep the music playing until the players are on the field? or maybe extend it to the point where it slowly fades away? I just always felt it abruptly ends at it's current stopping point.

Anyway, still the best entrance. I've been to a lot of other football stadiums including Clemson and by my 3rd year of VT I quickly realized that our Entrance and crowd really ruined me enjoying the experience of other stadiums because from start to finish they really just can't compare. That sounds completely biased I know, but I have taken a lot of friends to Tech games and they are blown away as well. God I love VT.

It ends so that you can hear Tech Triumph being played by the HTs or the MVs when the MVs are on the field. They could fade it to have a better transition though.
