This is pure speculation since there is nothing official in regards to this, but this was on the Twitter
Hard decision but the right one— Jerome Wright (@Jwright_25) August 13, 2014
Entering Fall practice, Wright was listed as the 3rd string RB. Often switching between RB and FB, he was one of the few people fighting for a spot in the RB rotation to have seen time on the field aside from Coleman and Edmunds. With the latest update to the depth chart having him down on the 4th string line, it's possible he might reevaluate his future with the team. Wright is a true sophomore who is seeing true Freshmen overtake him. Now it's also possible that he could be moving positions, but keep an eye out for what might happen with this situation. A crowded backfield can be a blessing for depth, but it can be a curse for keeping talent. See Mangus, Chris.
EDIT: As posted by AirplaneBottle below, Wright as well as long-snapper Joe St. Germain have left the team. Wright's departure is unfortunate but not that surprising. With 2 more years of eligibility, I hope he lands somewhere where he can shine.

Interesting. I actually like the way he plays and wanted to see him get the ball more last year. Honestly, I thought he should have been #2 behind Edmunds.
I hope he doesn't leave, but it wouldn't surprise me if he wanted to move on.
Just heard that on the radio. Best wishes, dudes.
Who takes over long snapping?
Eddie D'Antuono took over for him at some point last year iirc
Yep. Spot on. Thanks!
I felt like wright ran the ball hard when he got his chance. This really reminds me of how misused Martin Scales. We could run Dustin pickle inside the 5 but not a Scales. He was a bruiser. So much for using a Wright as A fb out of an I-formation which I wanted to see used. We will miss you Jerome!
Nice comparison to Scales. As for Pickle, he was the "2-minute offense back" that Billy Hite employed. Yes, we had Darren Evans, Ryan Williams and David Wilson and Hite would put Pickle on the field over either of those 3.
That's too bad. I guess he was set on playing RB, or just felt his role as a H-Back / Fullback would be too limited, what with all the TE's limiting snaps for FBs and then that Sam Rogers guy ahead of him on the depth chart.
OP updated to reflect official announcement of Wright's departure. Seeing his tweet, I figured that news was coming.
That's a bummer, but can't really blame him. Hope he latches on somewhere and does well.
In other news, Durkin appears to have been banged up in practice. At this point, I'm expecting all our Frosh QBs to be redshirted, particularly with the Bucky factor.
He was full contact yesterday. I expect that he took a shot going live on the goal line.
Could just be a bad bruise or a strain. No need to hang u the towel just yet.
Well he looked good in the bowl game but this sort of thing is part of having a competitive football team. I hope he lands on his feet.
Thanks and good luck to both Jerome and Joe! I'm always sad to see Hokies go, but I'm sure they'll succeed.
I cant say im surprised of the attrition from the RB group. Jerome was just a nice young man. He should've been the # 2 fullback. Best of luck to him.
Sucks that they could not crack the depth charts especially St. Germain as he is a senior and has been with us so long. Best of luck to both of them wherever they end up!
This is too bad. I can't speak to St. Germain much, as I haven't really ever paid attention to long snappers, and I can't even tell if he's ever given a snap. Having said that, best of luck to him.
I'm sad to see Wright go. I understand the circumstances but I liked watching him run. He looked like a natural running back, and I seemed to always like what I saw from him. I hope he'll land at a school where he can develop, and if the stars align, maybe we'll see him again at VT for a pro day when he gets to the end of his college career.
I'm surprised about St. Germain. I follow the VT Football Instagram account, and they posted a clip of him just last week.
