Hokie Basketball 2014-2015

So I've been seeing many school's schedules get released. It looks like the West Virginia schedule just came out and we play @WVU December 30th, not a bad trip before New Years.

After scouring the web, I literally can't find anything else on our opponents for next year (ESPN, yahoo etc.). Does anyone have any additional information? I'd love to start planning winter trips early for any great away games.

*I'm sure this is a duplicate post and/or I suck at the internet. Many thanks in advance

Our schedule is never released until August. Memory says the second week of August or so.

Thanks for the updates. Buzz is getting me so juiced up. Can't remember since Deron Washington and AD Vassallo that I was so excited for a basketball season.

On a side note, Marshawn Williams is getting me excited.

Yup, Juice is getting me buzzed.

This is what we know so far:

EDIT: I looked back at the last 3 years and we have played 13 or 14 OOC games, so we have at least 2 more missing games from what is listed above. I imagine one of those 2-3 will be on the road.

Doesn't look particularly exciting (compared to FB schedule). No ODU? :|

(EDIT: Our schedule is backloaded, so a little SEC-style non-conference scheduling and a trip to Cancun ain't bad)

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

To be honest a less aggressive OOC schedule won't hurt for year 1 of Buzz. Even if that means no NCAA tourney because of a weak schedule, wins will make the team, the fans, etc happier for the future. Even if that means we go far in the NIT.

Agreed. Even if it is against lower competition, if we increase our number of wins from last year, I think it'll help Buzz sell improvement and the future to recruits and fans.
Plus our team will be super young so not like we are ready to take on crazy tough OOC schedules either. Get some wins and build the youngsters confidence.

Most of the OOC schedule was devised when Jim Weaver was still in 'keep Johnson' mode so he could save a few pennies. Weaver & Johnson went about as soft as possible to camoflauge the weakness of the team. The EZ Button schedule would float in some marshmallow wins so the big donors didn't pressure Weaver too much about having an awful hoops team once conference play began. I think you'll see a much improved OOC schedule next season. It's what Buzz prefers.

Wait a minute.

"The EZ Button schedule"

Are you crookedroad that used to post on the Bitter Blog? If so, it all makes so much sense.

"Nope, launch him into the sun and fart on him on the way up"

"11-0, bro"
-Hunter Carpenter (probably)

No, that was going to be EZ schedule, and the EZ button thing came to me. Don't know about the other. I've always just been me & my s/n

It's not that I don't believe you, but:

Nice graphic! We'll have to agree to disagree then.

If you say that you aren't crookedroad, then I believe you. I was just joking around.

No problems! I'm just looking forward to seeing what Buzz does this year and beyond.

Probably made more sense for him to coach there than Virginia State based on his business interests on the Eastern Shore area.

Basketball?? It's not even football season.

So? We can only discuss topics you like? :-)

As for the ACC schedule this year: We don't have dates yet but this is how the games break out home vs away.
Tech will play UVA and Miami home and away in 2014/15 as these are our designated "Rivalry Games".

We will play Georgia Tech, Duke, Pitt, BC and Notre Dame at home.

We will play Clemson, UNC, WF, NC State and Louisville away.

FSU and Syracuse are listed as Repeats which are non rival home and away games.

As for the Out of Conference Schedule, don't expect Buzz to change it too much over the next few years if at all, while he was at Marquette, his OOC strength was very similar to what Tech has had the last five years.

To give you an idea of Buzz' OOC SOS compared to Tech:

2013-14: 166 VT 2013-14: 163
2012-13: 84 VT 2012-13: 256
2011-12: 156 VT 2011-12: 157
2010-11: 198 VT 2010-11: 339

Who is going to help Boeheim find his way to Blacksburg? I don't think he knows how to get here.

If I had to guess our remaining opponents for the 2-3 additional games that are not known, I would expect them to come from this group:

UNC-A, UNC-G, UNC-C, Furman, Winthrop, Western Carolina

An outside chance of these:
ODU, VCU, Longwood, and possibly schools Buzz had established connections with from his time at Marquette although I would not expect a Big East/American Conference opponent.

I'd like to see us schedule the strong mid-major state schools (ODU,VCU,UR,Mason) more often. We need to reestablish ourselves as a top 2-3 bball program in the state. The best way to do that in my opinion is play and beat these schools. I think e should play (at least) 3 Va schools each year, 2 at home (1 mid-major and 1 low major) and then 1 of the "top 4" mid-majors on the road. There are plenty of Hokie alums in those areas that will help to neutralize the away environment.

We have had plenty of conversations here regarding playing in state. I would love to see us play mini tournaments in state every year. Unfortunately with the way things are going I just don't see it happening especially if the ACC increases their schedule.

I liked the idea of the game in Richmond but I guess it wasn't a success since they only had it for 2 years. The BB&T Classic was nice to but we haven't been involved in it for a while.

I think one of our long term program goals should be to be the top in-state program. Any year we are the top team in state we are probably going to the NCAA as well. But to measure our progress toward such a goal we must play a fair share of other top OOC in-state programs each year. By this I mean from VCU, ODU, Richmond and Mason I'd like to see at least 2 of those on our schedule each year and dump a couple of the cupcakes i.e. Longwood, North Florida etc.
