First let me introduce myself as this is my very first post. I am a die hard HOKIES fan that truly believes there are only two seasons in a year. (1) Football Season and (2) The time period leading up until the next Football Season. I eat, sleep and work with Football on my mind. I usually just read the content on this wonderful website you call The Key Play and very seldom comment. Today is the day that I become an active member of this great Community!
I, like many others on this great site, have researched data, watched film, watched live games and broke down offense and defensive plays to find out what was successful or what contributed to the "fail" of the play. There was one common denominator.....Personnel. I have had the opportunity to watch several of the current freshman on this team play this great game we call football and can tell you, these guys are "Football Players"...not just athletes. You see time and time again, in my honest opinion, Virginia Tech has recruited top notch athletes, placed them in certain positions / situations that were not favorable to their game...and hoped they would succeed because of there athleticism. Quite a few of these players were athletic enough to succeed, but some were not and that is what attributed to the "fail" of the plays, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
The last two years, it appears that "we" have realized our mistake and recruited with the position in mind. Now look at what we have...actual "top of the line, accurate QB's, Running Backs that hit a hole hard going North and South, TE's that can actually be a threat in the passing game and block. WR's that have that big play ability and were actual wide receivers in high school. An offensive line averaging 300 lbs.
I am not going to even attempt to say anything about "our" defense other then if you thought last year was a good year, you just wait till next year! WOW!!!!!!! This current Virginia Tech team has it all and with a little blood, sweat and tears given by them the next two weeks, they are going to get better and "gel" with each other. I believe come September 6, 2014, these HOKIES will shock the College Football world. Now I'm not saying we are going to go undefeated and make it into the playoff this year but I would truly be shocked if we were not at least 10-2 with a win over OSU.
My expectations of this year are a Top 30 Offense and a Top 15 Defense and that my friends equals a successful season gearing up for the magical 2015 Undefeated / National Champion Football Season!

Welcome to the best football community on the web!
Im really excited for this team.
But we're still a couple recruiting classes away from a national championship.
Sparkling cider? What happened to Wild Turkey?
Just chill some Wild Turkey and add CO2 to about 10 psi and make sparkling Wild Turkey.
I can hold lessons how to do this with hands on experience if you'd like.
It's easy.
Amaze your friends and baffle your enemies.
Well, as any of the chem or other engineers should be able to remember, the volume of gas that will dissolve is inverse to temperature and direct relation to pressure above the liquid.
So, if you put the cold liquid in a container that can take pressure such as a 2L soda container in good condition and add CO2 on top to about 10-12 psi and shake it until you don't hear the CO2 hissing out of your tank anymore then put the whole apparatus in your refrigerator ( normally kept at 30-40F), after about a day, you will have your beverage of choice pressurized to about 2.5-3 volumes, close to that of beer.
At that point you could safely take the pressure cap off and put a regular cap on.
The pressuring caps can be bought at a local home brew shop and they have charging stuff to setup using the little disposable CO2 canisters.
If you have a kegerator already, you can get a quick disconnect cap for a 2L soda bottle to hook up to your existing CO2 bottle. Your local home brew shop can help with that setup quite cheaply.
This will work with any beverage that is primarily water.
Also, one of these instant homemade soda kits would work too but I don't trust them very much because the CO2 hydration and dissolution is not instant.
i still think it is going to take until 2016 for the pieces to come together. this year i would be happy to make it to the ACCCG. Next year I really expect to win the Coastal hands down and to hopefully win the ACC.
I see our defense being a top 10 defense every year ( at least top 20 if we suffer major injuries). Our offense needs to get better every year and with how we are recruiting right now there is no reason it should not be.
I'd think 2015 would be a year to make noise w/ the schedule and all the returnees on offense. That 2016 schedule has some tough games
What I been sayin'.
Watch out in 2016.
Leg up in spirit as a welcome!
Let's pump the breaks here... Top 30 offense might be jumping the gun I'm expecting a top 70, there's still a lot of improvements that need to be made and a lot of freshman contributing typically isn't a great gameplan. However we will be trending in the right direction!
well, unfortunately the one thing this VT team doesn't have is experience... if they can just win the games they should win OOC, I think by the time ACC play rolls around "we'll" be in good shape.. and by the end of the year I think they'll be on another level
Top 30 offense. Noted.
If we beat tOSU I hope we don't drop two ACC games. If we are good enough to beat tOSU then losing to UNC, Pitt, Miami, etc would mean we fell prey to playing to our opponent again and I want to move past that. That said, I would be pleased with 10-2 as described.
We are are good enough to beat tOSU, we better be 12-0.
what is the tOSU you speak of? Is that anywhere near anOSU?
what I believe we can do and what i would deem a successful year are different. I believe that we have a chance to win every game because every Saturday shit happens and teams get upset and teams roll. That's the nature of college football and frankly one of the big reasons why I love it. So yes, 12 - 0 baby!
But I think a return to the ACCCG no matter how we get there or with what record, is where we need to aim at this year. I'm not saying losing is acceptable at all, but in terms of where we have been the last 2 years and where we need to be this year to really progress as a team that's where I see it. Anything less then that then I think 2015 becomes a real milestone year. It's either getting done or it's not.
Step 1: Win the ACC
Step 2:
Step 3: Profit!
Get it?
Excellent post!
Top 30 Offense is probably a bit optimistic, but I agree the talent is there if the remaining OL can stay healthy and improve their consistency. Defense is top 15 easy, top 5 if they stay healthy.
This year I expect and will be disappointed with anything less than ACCCG - next year could be magical!
