Frank Beamer is hyped up about the future of VT football

Despite winning just 15 games the last two seasons, having to replace Logan Thomas, improving a running game that ranked in the bottom of the ACC, coach Frank Beamer is hyped up about the future of the team. Entering his 28th season as the head coach of Virginia Tech, Beamer has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt. His excitement is reason enough to bring optimism to a football team trying to get back to elite level.

Go Frank, Go Tech, Go Hokies!

My favorite quote

"We're knocking at the door," Beamer said. "You have to knock the door on down. You have to take that next step."

Here's my favorite quote from a Radford fan to a UVA fan in the comments section:
"Go buy a suit and watch UCLA take you to the woodshed week 1."

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

The guy got freaking destroyed and then of course resorts to other sports in his next comment. Typical Hoo.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

You'd figure a Hoo would know the proper way to take an L...

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Radford Football > UVA Football

The offensive line was a problem, and it may still be one. But Beamer takes the blame for that, and he said the approach to recruiting has changed for the better.

"We got into zone blocking and these big old guys, and it kind of works against you in pass protection and even blocking," he said. "A guy has to have feet and be nifty and be able to redirect. You have to be able to move yourself."

So now Virginia Tech aims for lighter, more agile linemen, hoping to add the weight after they arrive on campus. Agility, explosiveness, athleticism -- these are Beamer's buzzwords these days, and he believes he's got plenty of it on both sides of the ball.

Well thats a quote that should have french peeing himself with joy

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Very similar to how we've gone after some of the defensive line players too based on speed, athletic ability, agility.

Killing me with these Heavyweights gifs. Might have to spring the $3 on Amazon since I don't know where my VHS copy is.

For once, these comments on an ESPN piece are worth reading.

anybody else finding it odd how much ESPN has been speaking to Beamer and the Hokies?

I think since Whit has been around VT has really increased their availability to the media. I don't remember ever seeing so many player/coach interviews in the off season. VT is a large enough brand name that, if put out there, major media outlets (ie, ESPN) will take note.

Also, we have a prime time matchup with OSU in a few weeks. ESPN surely wants to hype that game if possible.

Finally, I think Frank Beamer has the potential to be a major story in within the next 5 years. Will he go out on top? Will he get forced out a la Bowden? Can he bring the team back or is he past his prime? Maybe ESPN is positioning themselves for that...

EDIT: also, due to Clemson and FSU's postseason success last year, the ACC, and in turn ACC teams are far more intriguing this year than they have been in some time.

Nothing would make me happier than to hear Herbstreit calling the game as he watches his former team get pounded by VT.

You and me both, bro. I watched Herbstreit call the '06 BC game, the '09 Bama game, and the '10 Boise game. You could almost use the word "gloating" when describing his attitude once those games were sure to be Hokie losses.

The Hokies stomping the Buckeyes at the Horseshoe with him in the booth would be priceless. But it probably won't happen. Looks like the game is on ESPN in prime time, which means Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge will be calling the game.

Leonard. Duh.

Seems like the broadcast team will be Blackledge & Nessler. I thought I saw that on a release that was mentioned on here a week or two ago.

But it's the game that would have been on ABC if not for the race.

I'm just waiting for a game where Herby calls in Lane.

Ahh - true - he'll be calling the ABC game. But we should get plenty of mentions during gameday and then again on College Football Final. There's still a chance to hear Herbie get choked up talking about the thrashing we gave OSU

He'll be choking on a list of excuses, if that much. I'll never forget the ridiculous diatribe he went on when we were selected for the 2012 Sugar Bowl.

"Exit light..."

I lost a bit of respect for him that night. He just got done talking about how Michigan deserved their bid because of their fanbase. Then he goes on the rant about how it's so unjust that we got our bid just because of our fanbase. I thought he was gonna tear up for a minute there.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

Maybe the ESPN analysts are also excited to watch the new-look Hokies.

I believe in Beamer and Co. We have been taken lightly in all sides of the game. Beamers commitment to play freshmen, even if it's on special teams shows a thing or two about their mentality. I wanna score on defense on offense and mostly on special teams. We are the rightful owners of the conference and we will once again take over it, let's skipper roar!

This is getting me too hyped for the future. We are on the right path

"These people are losing their minds" - Mike Patrick

good read, nice to see that he knew recruting had to pick up, expecially in the o-line department.

HAHAHAHA THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

The new starting QB will be about the same height as Drew brees. Bucky Hodges the same height as Jimmy Graham. If the Hokies come close to looking like the Saints, the team will reach elite level for sure.

Beamer said Facyson practiced full-speed today, per Tech Talk Live.

Hokies' secondary is another reason for Beamer to be hyped up.

Coach Beamer said tonight on TTL that he woke up last night at 2AM and had the thought that all 3 TE's should be playing on Pride and Joy. He talked to Stiney about it this morning, and it seems like a done deal.

Good luck to all the opposing punters with Bucky coming after them.

"We were at the pinnacle, and we did it for years," Foster says. He pauses, nods, takes a deep breath. "And I did it with the best guy in the business."

Doesn't Bucky block out the sun at this point?

So they will cower in the shade.

Glad I'm not the only one waking up in the middle of the night thinking about football.

On another note:
Logan Thomas is definitely looking to be the better passer right now than Manziel.

Johnny football looked like crap in that game last night.
He was not reading defenses and blitzes and tossed a couple that should have been pick 6.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

And then flipped the bird to Redskins telling him he sucked. Can't take criticism.

Yeah, luckily taking criticism will not be an issue with Logan. He has taken everything thrown at him and still holds his head up high. I wish him nothing but the best.

6-5, 10-1-1, 2-9, 3-8, 6-4-1, 6-5, 5-6, 2-8-1, 9-3, 8-4, 10-2, 10-2, 7-5, 9-3, 11-1, 11-1, 8-4, 10-4, 8-5, 10-3, 11-2, 10-3, 11-3, 10-4, 10-3, 11-3, 11-3, 7-6, 8-5, 7-6, 7-6, 10-4, 9-4, 6-7, 8-5..........

Definitely a nice silver lining for Thomas' situation. Johnny Football went his whole career being absolutely beloved by his fans (with a few exceptions for people who actually cared about character and other such silliness) and never had to deal with people being upset or overly critical of his play. Thomas, on the other hand, had every single aspect of his game thing analyzed under a microscope and every mistake had the world's biggest spotlight shown on it. Yet time and time again, LT3 showed he was mentally tough enough and had the right attitude and mindset to handle it. Props to Logan for checking his ego and not being a total d-bag of a representative for VT.

That flipping the bird thing...Wow. What a child.

Leonard. Duh.

I am more excited than I have been in several years about this VT Offense, and the Defense looks to be spectacular. If they stay healthy I think Tech will surprise a lot of people. GO HOKIES!!!
