Sources: Duke Senior Tight End Braxton Deaver Tears ACL
Was projected to be their Starting TE this fall. Was their 2nd leading receiver from last year (named to ESPN's All-Bowl team for his play in the CFA Bowl), and was named to the Mackey Award Watch List for the nation's top TE. Make no mistake, this is a huge loss for them, which is even more unfortunate after the loss of their starting LB last week.
Even worse news for him, he took a non-medical redshirt in 2010, so this very likely ends his career at Duke.

I said it in a post a couple of weeks ago, but it really seems like the injury bug is hitting the ACC harder than any other years in the past.
This just really sucks. I don't care what you think of the programs, or even of specific players (and I mean no way to imply this kid is a bad apple). I just can't stand to see anyone get this kind of injury that threatens their career.
I want all the players to have every opportunity their talent and drive permits them.
Good luck to Braxton. I hope his recovery goes smoothly, and he gets the chance to show his stuff at the next level.
I wish we were getting the opportunity to play Duke at their best this year, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
Duke had a lot of things go their way last year. I like Cutcliffe a lot, but between the injuries and the close-game-shift they will likely see, I think it's possible they are back on that bowl bubble this year.
That and Cutcliffe looks like he lost weight. We all know by now fat coaches > skinny coaches.
Even with an easy schedule, I've been saying they're more likely to finish closer to last than first in the Coastal. In addition to the ball bouncing their way a lot last year, part of my thinking was that there was a decent chance the injury bug was bound to catch them. And their depth is probably more suspect than other teams'.
I've got them at 6-6, 2-6.
Wins: Elon, Troy, Kansas, Tulane, GT, Wake
Loses: Miami, uva, Pitt, Cuse, VT, UNC
maybe GT and uva end up switched, since they play GT on the road and uva at home. But I also don't anticipate the home teams win all the time.
This does not compute.
Who loses to UVA?
We should hope that's the case though. UVA beating last year's division champs might just lock London in for another contract extension.
Because everyone in Hooville knows, just knows, "Duke is BACK!"
Signature win for the Wahoos, without a doubt.

Every game is UVa's Super Bowl this year.
....Because that one win might mean everything in the end...
UVA will be a lot better this year, but the schedule doesn't afford many wins. They will upset a team or two.
UVA couldn't do much worse. Unless they have fewer wins than fans at their spring game.
It wasnt fun when that happened to Tech last year. I dont wish that on any other team, even Duke.
That's a shame for Deaver. I've got no idea if he had NFL aspirations or not, but an ACL is serious stuff. Best of luck to him, and hoping he gets that Duke diploma. No matter the team, it's no fun to see any player with a career ending injury. The upside is that he's young and hopefully has time to complete his degree and fill his network of contacts for his future career. Just as with our Mark Shuman, best of luck in life after football.
Awful luck. I hate to see this kind of thing happen to anybody. Good luck in your recovery and whatever life holds, Braxton!
I dont mean this in a jackass way at all, but its been a rough couple of days for guys named Braxton.
First thing that popped into my head, too.
Clemson takes a huge loss too
