That's not good for them. Always a real shame to see a player get hurt.

osu is loaded . with or without miller its gonna be a dogfight on sept 6th . vt better be ready.

Their defensive line and secondary are going to be very very good. Their defensive line is spectacular.

Arguably their best DL Noah Spence is suspended for the Tech game. Still loaded though.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I think Bosa is their best DL. Huge kid and really strong at the point of attack. Spence is kind of like Harold, an edge guy who can be game planned around if you can handle the inside guys.

With you on the D-line, not sold on the secondary. 61st-ranked passing S&P+ team even with 3 NFL players in the secondary. New (better) coach, and plenty of talent, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were statistically better, but I'm not sure they'll be an elite unit.

the Navy effect on the secondary could be important too. and by navy effect i mean their preparation and keys against a team like navy is very different than it is for VT. the same can be said for their entire defense but their lbs and d-line are probably more talented and can handle the transition more easily.

I've been under the impression from many OSU fans that the secondary is their weakest position group.

This may be true, but their OL is inexperienced as well. Having someone other than Miller behind Center could be seeing Maddy and Dadi all night in their grill.

3 new starters in the secondary this year for them

Checks Eleven Warriors. Yep Eleven Warriors melting down. Not confirmed but they seem to think Tim May is a pretty reputable source.

... dang, isn't it his last year of eligibility too?

That's what I was just trying to remember.
That's tough. I hope he can play, the guy deserves a chance to get drafted.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I believe he has not redshirted yet, so if he is unable to medically play, I think he can redshirt and get a 5th year.

This is just terrible. First of all, here is a kid who has sacrificed his body to Urban Meyer's system (and likely damaged any shot he has at being an NFL player in the process) who was trying to win a national championship. Second, it stinks for college football, because he is truly a special player. I hope the kid is ok.

Already some Vick injury comparisons being made and he hasn't even made it out of college. It really is a shame.

I hate to see any player get injured.....Especially a top notch team leader like Miller. Sucks because after we BEAT OSU in their own house, that will be ESPN's sorry ass excuse and "we" still wont get any credit!

Don't think Bama gives a damn since they walked out with the hardware, but an apt comparison nonetheless.

I can live with that criticism.

The Hokies haven't even named a starting quarterback. I wouldn't be talking upset yet.

Godspeed, young Braxton. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

Without Miller we will have our hands full. I'd prepare to beat the whole team. That said, and I don't know, but if Miller's NFL chances are vanquished that's why it's important to get that degree. I wish him well, unless he plays us.

And for those recruits paying attention, Virginia Tech does it right and tries to see its athletes through. For example, Lawrence Gibson's walking around in a boot and if I read correctly the other day, with two degrees already to boot (no pun intended).

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. " Rocky B.

I don't follow, what does VT do superior to OSU with regards to injury?

We don't let players get injured until they have a degree.

Yeah, that's what I wrote. Well, not really, but that sounds better. Since many dreams of going pro are sidelined by injuries, a school that is serious about seeing its student athletes through to graduation is a good choice. That's what I meant.

I'm sure Miller is a smart kid and will do well whatever transpires.

damn that sucks

Damn don't like to see players get injured no matter what the team is. Hopefully he recovers fully and quickly.

Hope Braxton makes a full recovery if true. He seems like a great person as well as football player.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Such a shame for a supremely talented athlete. Hope he is somehow alright.

Regarding our game against them, I hate this as well. If he plays banged up or if he can't go and they have to play the backup, they are still going to be extremely tough to beat. They're still Ohio State, loaded with talent, playing at home. A loss there would be a huge knock against our program, far worse than if Miller played and they shredded us. I would like to see us take on everything they've got - adds to the appeal of the matchup on a national stage as well.

Let me take a quick minute to say thanks to TKP. This community is first-class. My gut reaction was, "bummer for him, great for us!" But then I read tha above comments, and appreciate the maturity of guys like Egbert and French who remind me that we're all in this thing called life, together. Yeah, the kid wears garnet and red, but my goodness, he has sacrificed his body to the point of breakdown. I too hope he gets better for his own sake, and for college football as a whole. Thx TKP for keeping my perspective grounded, and may the best "team" win when we square off in Columbus.

If it ain't orange, it better be maroon...and if it ain't maroon, it better be soon!

This. I hope this thread finds its way to Braxton.

"Tajh Boyd over the middle . . . and it's caught for an interception! Michael Cole, lying flat on his back, ARE YOU KIDDING???"

Man. What is with this College Ball pre-season?

Is it just easier to get the news on stuff like this, or are injuries really increasing?

Here's hoping Braxton is ok, and ready to play at some point this season. I'd love to see our guys play him, but, and I'm not even joking here, if he's not 100% I fear he could suffer an even worse injury against our D. Granted, it won't be from Maddy since he's so slow, (and yes, I am joking there), but if Dadi hit him full speed, I'd feel really bad for him.

ESPN just sent out the text alert confirming this news.

Yeah non contact injuries are always the worst ones.... Hopefully he can get back on the field soon

@CaptKirkVT10

Practice not being good that day was probably more due to distraction than talent decline.

No question. OSU better hope they've got some solid leadership on that team, or things could easily snowball for them.

I'll be really disappointed if it turns out he can't play. I was hoping to see our D handle a top mobile QB after the UCLA game. Best of luck to the kid

Looks like he gets to play in Lane Stadium next year...

Unless I'm mistaken, he can just take a normal redshirt. Didn't he play as a true freshmen?

They'll probably make it a medical redshirt as an insurance policy. If he gets injured again (hoping not of course), he would eligible for a sixth year on the basis of medical hardship. If the first redshirt is not for injury, the NCAA usually doesn't approve the extension.

"Exit light..."

If the first redshirt is not for injury, the NCAA usually doesn't approve the extension.

Absolutely. A medical redshirt applies to a player who has actually played in a season, but played in less than 30% of his games. Because Miller's injury happened without playing in any 2014 games, he wouldn't apply for a medical redshirt (which requires approval from the NCAA) since he doesn't need one. He just takes a redshirt.

Now, if he gets hurt before NEXT season as well, he would have to apply for a medical hardship waiver. In order to get the waiver, he'd have to prove that he missed 2014 because of an injury. Until Miller applies for the medical hardship waiver, there is no actual distinction between a redshirt that happens because of injury and a redshirt that happens for any other reason.

Again, this is all just my understanding... and I'm aware that I'm nitpicking over semantics.

Right. All I mean is that anOSU will do everything they need to in order to have things lined up to prove medical necessity should the time come.

"Exit light..."

From my understanding, if it is for an injury, it still qualifies under a medical redshirt even if it is the players first.

It basically goes down as a redshirt for medical reasons. That's why many athletes who come to school on an injury their freshman year and redshirt and then get injured in a later year that can qualify for a medical redshirt can then go on to get a 6th year of eligibility. It's about the classification because if a player redshirts their freshman year because they aren't good enough to see time on the field and then get injured later on, they can't qualify for a 6th year. The key is that they have to have lost 2 years due to injury.

A member of their staff seems to be alluding to it with this. My sympathies to them

Capitalizing man and he? Really?

Uhhh... not talking about any mortal coach.

it is all part of the Man's plan?? Yeah, OK.

Let's just stop this conversation before it even begins. Religion is not something to be discussed on this forum. The original tweet was appropriate because it gave a vague message from a coach that the situation wasn't good. That's where it began, and that's where it will end.

hmmm, maybe Lee Corso was right after all

Have to admit, when I read this, all I could think about was this:

plan

Screw this. I do not want the reason we beat anOSU to be because they didn't have their QB. It will be all we hear following the upset.

Let's get the upset first. Actually, let's worry about the kid's health and safety first and then get the upset.

Absolutely right, and I still dont think we're the favorites even without Braxton. I'm sure his backup is more than capable. Tough day for dudes named Braxton tho.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

Redshirt freshman JT Barrett looks like he'll be the guy, but he isn't immune to the injury bug either. Tore his ACL his senior year of high school. Definitely a capable passer though, guy has a big arm and can move.

Evened you out because the thought definitely ran through my head too, but we will still be the underdog in my mind going into the 'shoe.

Huge and horrible news. Best wishes to Braxton Miller. Friend or foe, I hate to see injuries.

"Exit light..."

Crap. Bad for everyone, especially Braxton .... hope you have a full and speedy recovery kid! Bad for OSU's season. Bad for us; we win, they'll report it's 'cause we were playing a backup QB, we lose, they'll report that we can't even beat their backup. Crap.

gtofever

Extremely disappointing. Would have been great to see our D against him in the Shoe. You obviously want to play the best teams in the country at their best. A RS-Sr Braxton Miller starting at QB in Lane on Labor Day night in 2015 scares me especially since that year shapes up for a potential playoff run for VT. Rather play him this year on the road as underdogs with nothing to lose....

804 Hokie; Virginia Tech Class of 2014

Eh, it'll be fun no matter what. Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to playing him when we've gotten a little more experience for our front-7 guys. A Motuapuaka/Clarke tandem at LB would be an awesome matchup to watch against an elite mobile QB.

Speaking of elevenwarriors (OSU) website, I just got an offline notice after accessing it several hours ago. There was some talk about the close race between Braxton's two backups in one article - mostly from fan comments.

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. " Rocky B.

All of these preseason injuries are just the worst. Hope it's not as bad as being reported for Miller and he can play in 2014.

The best thing for Braxton Miller might be a medical redshirt and hopefully having a full 2015 season. One of the knocks on him that NFL scouts had was that he hadn't made it through a full season in college yet.

Hypothetically speaking, let's say he sits out 2014 and one of tOSU's backups lights it up, what does Meyer do?

If he's sidelined indefinitely, prudent move might be to enter the draft.

I would say he should go to the draft even if one of their backups doesn't light it up. His injury history isn't going to get any better and he might as well get paid as soon as he can.

(Insert your own "he's already getting paid joke)

I don't think his draft stock is at the point in which entering the draft makes sense. Besides the injury concerns his last few games weren't the best from a passing perspective especially Michigan and Michigan State. The offense he plays in probably would be used against him in evaluations as well, Miller had more rush attempts than pass completions in 8 of the 11 games he was healthy for last year. He might be drafted higher as RB than QB following another former Big Ten QB in Michael Robinson. Braxton Miller does have a gun for an arm though and of course I'm not an NFL scout. Hopefully if he does go to the draft he had an insurance policy.

Last year Kenny Guiton lit it up with Miller out but Urban still put Braxton Miller back in. I think Braxton Miller is a warrior and a great college running QB that I'd love to see in Lane Stadium next year.

RB? Not with shoulder issues.

He should give Logan a call -- LT knows a coach looking for a TE to steal in the late rounds.

(kidding -- best wishes to #alltheBraxtons)

Kind of depends on the injury and how it heals.

Maybe Braxton could come back in a Percy Harvin type role in Urban's offense. I really don't know but hope the best for him in his career.

A gun for an arm? Not from what I've seen.

The newest reports I'm seeing is that there will be an MRI done Tuesday morning, and there won't be any decision made about his season until after the MRI.. so nothing is official right now

but in the meantime, out of curiosity, do we know much of anything about their back-up QB(s)?

He will be shitting his pants once he sees the LunchPail D eat his bag lunch!!

"I'm high on Juice and ready to stick it in!" Whit Babcock

However from the reports from practice two weeks out from their first game and three weeks from the LPD entering the shoe....wether he plays this season or not.....he's not playing against us.

This quote right there should be pinned to the locker of every single player on our team tomorrow morning. I want us to come into Columbus with an absolute chip on our shoulder with the burning desire to beat the everliving shit out of someone, and the way people are absolutely writing us off right now. Pin it on their lockers after putting a W on the board against Bill and Mary. First thing is first! It's almost game week!

Go Hokies!

Nah, keep it up there all freakin season long.

I want this team foaming at the mouth leading up to the Ohio State game. If that means getting them fired up to beat the piss out of W&M on the 30th, so be it. This team needs to come into this season absolutely pissed off about the way they're not only being overlooked, but absolutely panned right now. They've been called an easy opponent by ESPN. They need to be reminded of this at every stage of the way.

I hate this happened to Miller and wish him nothing but a speedy recovery, but I do hate me some Urban Meyer.

There is an acceptable amount of hatred in this post.

Pizza night?

Comfort food.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I hope people aren't just thinking it's going to be a cakewalk up at the shoe because of this. I still think they will field a good team. And who knows if their r-Fr QB is that bad. I remember a r-Fr come in at VT and change the game itself. Not saying they have an MV7 in the wings because I don't think he can ever be duplicated but he might be pretty good. OSU doesn't recruit slouches. We will see though in 3 weeks. Hopefully Miller's able to salvage his career and get a chance either next year or in the NFL at some point. Tough break.

It's going to be tough, but not having researched it myself, are any of their other possible QBs as mobile as Braxton Miller?

If not, I'd love to see a Grayson Lambert out there for our Defense to chew up.

It's been said before in this post, and others, but it is sad to see players go down to injury. Unfortunately, this is part of the game of football, but very tough to see any student athlete to go down after all of their hard work and dedication to the game.

I hope for nothing but the best for Braxton, and all others who are dealing with injuries.

Regardless of who we face or what circumstance, all I want is a positive T/O margin, a fast 'D', and a 'W'.

(and no more injuries)

Ahh dernit - was looking forward to seeing what he could do this year. Really stinks for Miller.

Really do hate to see that happen in the preseason. They're still a good team and, more importantly, very well coached. Our chances in Columbus did just improve a bit, though.

So we will get to face him at home next year. We still get our shot against him.
