OT: President Sands Attends Hokie Camp

This article put a big smile on my face this morning. President Sands and his wife, Laura Sands (who is teaching in the Human Development Department at VT), attended a day of Hokie Camp at Smith Mountain Lake recently.

For those of you who don't know what Hokie Camp is, it's basically a chance for Freshman to get their feet wet in Virginia Tech's history, traditions, and values while also getting to meet fellow incoming students and make bonds before even moving in. It's a great program and everyone I know who's done it is glad they did.

I am very thankful for what our previous leadership did for this school, but it is great to see the new leaders bringing a breath of fresh air. This just gave me the feeling that our school is headed for some great things with President Sands at the helm.

I hope he and his wife had a great time and I can't wait to see them on Saturdays this fall!

I agree. It's great to see the leadership of the University partaking in an event like this, especially considering he's kind of a "freshman" himself. I wonder if that was the first time he's "bobbed" up and down to Enter Sandman at Tech.

I still think it'd be hilarious/awesome if during Enter Sandman, they played on the whole "Sands" last name thing at least once.

I just had a hilarious mental image of just President Sands running out of the tunnel at the start of a game. "What, I'm not the one you were waiting for?"

"Exit light..."

This is exactly what I'm envisioning. It would be hilarious and yet awesome!

It actually would have been better at the press conference when they announced who the new president was going to be, but I'm willing to let that slide. haha

Enter Sandsman

I like new AD & the new president. So far, the future of VT is in good hands.

I was totally envisioning Sands up in the President's suite during a scrimmage in Lane overseeing his masterful work like Senator Palpatine overlooking the Clone Army at the end of Star Wars II.

I love this. What I love even more today, is knowing that in ONE WEEK from today, I will be in Blacksburg again. Also knowing that ONE WEEK from tomorrow I'll be watching some Hokie Football in Lane Stadium with fellow Hokies.

The anticipation is:

I attended Hokie Camp before my Freshman year in 94 then was a counselor the following year. It's a great program. I don't remember the VT president making an appearance when I was there. Sands gets it. Go Hokies!

New President Sands and Athletic Director Babcock look to be great additions to the Virginia Tech family.
