William & Mary LB Luke Rhodes recently said that,
We (Tribes) prepare our game plan and go into that game expecting to win, like every other game. This is what we're looking forward to. Winning one of these games would be the highlight of our career, so far to this point, we've been so close. One play here, one play there would have made the difference. We realize that. That's what we're looking forward to this Saturday."
Will W&M finally get its first signature win against an FCS program since beating UVA in 2009?

Yes, but not this weekend and never against Virginia Tech.
Ditto and Ditto again!
Virginia Tech IS NOT UVA.
We need to just 'play hard, every play.'
Ftfy
Ah beat me to it. They're still looking for their first signature win and it will NOT be us.
App state was saying the same thing three years ago I think the final score of that one was liiiiiiiiiike 66-14? And they were still butthurt post game saying things like "the best team didn't win" and "if one or two things had gone different we would've won"... lets knock the confidence out of them
... did they really say that??
Yep, here's an excerpt from the post game article:
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2011-09-03-313212...
I live in NC, and the App State fans talked so much crap the entire offseason about how much they would destroy us. When David Wilson took the opening handoff to the house, I knew we had something special. We demolished them, and after the game their players couldn't even acknowledge how good we were.
Plus, we took our foot off the pedal after the 1st half.
Guess Mountaineers are all the same, whether in Morgantown or in Boone....
i live in nc and the app state fans talked so much crap before the game to me. im so glad we beat the crap out of them. since jmu ill never take an fcs opponent lightly. i hope the guys come out focused and ready to play and will be shocked if they dont come out and play their asses off. with the amount of new faces on the fieldready to play plus the veteran leadership that knows not to overlook an opponent im thinking everyone will be 100% ready to go.
They were still MichiganDrunk.
But..but..2007...
--every App State fan, ever
And if we'd beaten F$U in the Sugar Bowl, we'd always be saying the same about that game, no matter a loss to JMU or anyone else years later. AppState earned the right to 'remember' the biggest upset in the history of college football. I've no problem giving them that. We still talk about Miami 2003 the same way, and that was an interconference game.
Its cute how often we hear other programs in the commonwealth brag about how they could totally easily beat VT on the field. The only thing that comes close to these kinds of levels of delusion is listening to ODU fans constantly thump their chests about how they're totally going to be this national power in football in the coming years, and how they're going to start regularly stealing the best players in the state away from us and UVa. It really is cute.
UVA has been wasting talented players for a long time. Its possible ODU could have done something better with those players. I guess we will never know cause they finished their career winless against Tech.
i'm pretty sure Custer thought he had those blasted redskins right where he wanted them too.
No, I expect to win by more than 30 points. I can't wait to see our back up offensive line pancake this clown!!
What's wrong with being confident in your ability to beat a team? I don't think any team in the country is going to go into a game saying "we're gonna lose, lets just go home"
Nothing wrong with this at all....
This. I wouldn't expect him to be like "Yes we will lose. We are preparing ourselves mentally for this upcoming loss."
But with that said, I hope we annihilate them and show no mercy.
I second that emotion.
Swagger is always Leonard Approved.
You're my favorite Leonard
Hey...there's only one Leonard here. I see through your ruse.
Exactly. I see nothing incendiary in his comments.
Not happening!
I don't think the last meeting went very well for them. http://www.hokiesports.com/football/stats/showstats.html?8501
Whoa forgot what it was like to make 3 field goals in a game. Let's go Santamaria!!!
2 sacks for Purnell Sturdivant. That's a name I hadn't thought of in a long time.
I think we learned our lesson against JMU, won't happen again
I upvoted this because I saw a random, uncalled for downvote. This is my policy. It is what I do. Upvote me if you agree with it.
Ok.
Can I downvote you if I don't?
apparently someone hates the big bang theory
I didn't downvote it....but I'll admit, I absolutely HATE The Big Bang Theory. HATE.
If we don't win by at least 3 TD's, I will be very surprised/disappointed.
I like how this is playing out-W&M has a good front seven that will be good for our O-line to get some experience against for Game #1.
We need to establish the run for me to feel good about the game, (besides winning, of course.)
Yes.
(hate to be MOTO here, but no one else has mentioned it.)
I didn't know they played UVA next week.
I am born and raised in the Harrisonburg area and was living in downtown Harrisonburg the time we played jmu. I was also dating a jmu student who was at the game with me. I was sooo confident about us winning....almost thinking there were no way possible we would lose to them. I had to come home to Hburg and people were still celebrating outside of my apartment. Still gives me nightmares to this day. So.... I will never say we will beat anybody ever again
This really seems like dredging the bottom of the ocean for a potential insult. If any player on any team on any week against any opponent is quoted as NOT expecting to win - which is all he said - then we all would scream about him not deserving to take the field. Once again, as a reminder - they are an FCS program. They have a good defense FOR AN FCS PROGRAM, and we should crush them because we are supposed to be an upper tier FBS program. Pretending anything otherwise, or searching for a reason to 'hate on them' for looking to win seems kind of silly. This game will give us an opportunity to test the new players and to flex our muscles before playing someone that really matters. We really don't need to turn over rocks looking for motivation on this one. We'll win by five touchdowns, and not because of anything they say to motivate themselves.
Agree completely. In all honesty, if you just take the quote out of context and ask me who said it, I'm probably pretty likely to say it was one of our guys referring to the Alabama game. I feel pretty sure some of our guys DID say the same thing. Of course, that's not FCS vs. FBS, but it was our rebuilding team vs. the defending national champs.
