College football kicks off tonight, and plenty of games are on. A few NFL preseason games are also on (in the Northern VA area). From my quick search, Verizon FiOS customers are out of luck as FiOS launched SEC Network only in Florida and Texas. A few other games are also available through ESPN3 online.
EDIT: FiOS customers with Extreme or Ultimate packages and DirecTV customers should have the SEC Network. Feel free to add the channel number in the comments.
6 pm kickoff
SEC Network - USCe vs. A&M
7 pm kickoff
NFL Network - Eagles vs. Jets (two teams whose cheers consist of spelling their names)

7:30 pm kickoff
NBC / Comcast Sports - Skins vs. Bucs
PAC-12 Network - Idaho State vs. Utah

Just an FYI, SEC Network on FiOS is nationwide if you have the Extreme or Ultimate packages.
Thanks - was wondering what I needed to do to get the SEC network on Fios. Leg for you, sir!
Thanks! Edited to show that. Should be channel 575.
No HD yet, so just channel 75
I didn't think my FiOS had it all, thanks for finding it for me
According to a contact at Verizon, HD should be available in a week or so. I told them to hurry the hell up. As mentioned, it will show up on channel 575 once available.
DirecTV Choice package people (you already have NFL Network, MLB Network) should get SEC Network.
Ooh, I like this. Can we have a "Viewing Guide" thread like this every week, which could then turn into the "Other Games" open discussion?
That Boise-Ol Miss game could be interesting. Not that aTm-USCe won't be, but for the later evening binge.
I got 100 on Boise tonight. Ole Miss isn't that good and I have been saying it for weeeeeeeeksss.
I got to go the other way JC.
They have boatloads of talent, just young.
I just hope you have a flush supply of disposable income.
I will after tonight!
Welp...
So, yea, about that....
http://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ga/
only had to pay up 50 because my buddy said only a crazy person would put 100 on Boise. To be honest if they had a better QB they would have won. Ole Miss pulled it out in the end once Boise became one dimensional.
IMO- Ajaye is a beast I can only wish one of our back ran/runs like he did all night. 40 touches good lord..Beamer I am glarring at you
Can I stay up late enough to see the end of Washington State-Rutgers? I love watching Leach's teams play.
Same here, I loved the idea of Leach running our offense when Bud was running the defense. Alas Leach's idea of offense is as far from Frank's idea of offense as you can get.
Did you not see his offense implode in the bowl game against Colorado State last year? It was glorious
I love that this weekend will be empty in State College because everyone in town is going to Ireland to watch the game.
No wait, scratch that, ain't no one going nowhere but at least the alumni influx won't happen this weekend.
GO KNIGHTS! (Hokie fan studying at UCF here)
I am so excited. I want to watch everything. I worked with comcast to ensure I have every possible game. I think I heard ESPN say last night that there will be 52 games made available for viewing.
Comcast wouldn't give me the Pac-12 network. Said it's unavailable and they don't know when it'll be on the east coast. :(
My cable isn't getting hooked up until the 5th because DirectTV hates me, looks like I'll be stealing someone's cable login/password and parking it on ESPN3. There's only one real sports bar here in California...Maryland.
I know by Monday night I'll kind look like this and I'll probably mutter something like "How long til the next game?"
You're in luck. The U plays Monday night!
But there's only one game next Thursday, with no Wed appetizer game.
I'm sure I'll have to get my fix on Thurs. w/the Green Bay Seattle game. Otherwise, I'll be going through withdrawls.
South Carolina seems to be missing Clowney and company so far.
The USCe - TAMU game has been entertaining
It's that #SEC defense...
wait.
#SEC offense.
Apparently, defense is optional in the SEC this year. That South Carolina secondary is atrocious.
Haha, this is looking like the Big-12 with all this offense
Defense?

AtM scored 45
Just flipped over to the CFA Kickoff. Ho-lee-shit, that place is empty. The entire upper bowl is vacant, and it appears maybe 1,500 Boise fans made it into town for the game, and the announcers are openly mocking the fanbases for just how pathetic the attendance is.
Should we be surprised?
No, but because this is the SEC, they'll just ignore it. But heaven forbid this was an ACC matchup, there would be numerous gratuitous crowd shots over the course of the game hammering home the point that ACC fans suck. Its not like ESPN has a history of doing that.....
I stopped caring/ reading/ watching what espn had to say a log time ago. Treat it like cable news; Its just drama.
100% agree.
Boston College fans suck
No, this is the SEC. The A&M offense is just so amazingly, incredibly good that the South Carolina DBs fall over trying to chase the receivers.
Though don't you worry, any player from those lesser, non-SEC conferences wouldn't even be able to take the field, they'd be so overpowered vs. A&M. The SEC is just that good.
/SARCASTICA
The Head Ball Coach is not a happy camper
NOPE.
This is why the head ball coach and Nick Satan hate spread offenses... They have no answers for it.
Kenny Hill is on track for 70 passes.
You know, I'm pleasantly surprised I don't hate it every time Tebow opens his mouth so far.
I have to say, things couldn't have possibly fallen into place better for ATM. The drop off of Texas coupled with the move to the SEC is making for recruiting paradise. Talk about the stars aligning. Even if Charlie Strong starts to have an impact it will take a few years. Who knows if the Good Ol' Boys at UT will be patient enough. Either way, ATM is poised to be a powerhouse.
Did I just see on the ESPN ticker an NFL storyline with the Bleacher Report as the source?!
Should we be surprised? Some would argue that BR is the reputable news agency nowadays
I hope that was either heavy /sarcastica, or a brutal shot at ESPN
Oh, it was a shot across the mothership's bow
Johnny Manziel wasn't a system quarterback.
Too early to nickname A&Ms QB "Kenny Football"?
a few thoughts about tonights games...
Wake Forest is absolutely horrible, with time running down they have less than 100 yards TOTAL offense.. against a team from the Sun Belt conference
the Georgia dome is nearly empty, I can see Boise not bringing a ton of fans, but what's Ole Miss's excuse? and I heard NO MENTION of how this is "basically a home game for Ole Miss" like they kept saying when VT played Boise a few years ago
SEC defense? LOL, whatever
Especially considering this is a game at the start of a long weekend, not on Labor Day itself. I know 2 Ole Miss alumni who went to Atlanta as a mini-vacation. You think more people would do the same.
To be fair, Oxford is much farther from Atlanta than Blacksburg is from Landover.
And no one from Georgia is wasting time watching Ole Miss. Everyone down here is pregaming for Clemson in Sanford.
no, not really.. according to mapquest there is only about 30 minutes difference... I guess there are more VT fans near Landover though
I just looked it up on Google Maps and you're exactly right. That new interstate they built must make a huge difference now.
I tried to watch the Wake game since apparently I don't pay Verizon enough money for the SD SEC Network, and I had to turn it off. It was NFL Preseason level bad
So according to ESPN and their new-found love for "Kenny Football" the "Football" part of the nickname stays at Texas A&M.
Maybe this is what happened to Cleveland's offense...
Not digging the creativity
I didn't know Ken Hill was his father. That man was tough with the Expos back in the day.
I thoroughly enjoy the beat down on the Ol' ball coach.
I now want to know how badly the Cleveland Browns fans are freaking out on how they drafted one of the most overhyped QB's. Sumlin is one hell of a coach and seems like he can take any QB and make him look great.
I was really surprised by just how good aTm looked last night. I thought they were gonna take a big step back, especially on offense. Then again, I also expected USCe to take a big step back too. Still, solid job by Sumlin. It'll be interesting to see if last night was an exception or the start of something pretty special.
We really won't know how good aTm really is until their second half of their schedule, their next 4-5 games are a joke and a half. If they aren't 5-0 going into Ole Miss, I will be very surprised.
Ehh... I don't know. I don't know whether this was all about aTm being really good or SCar being really, really bad. I mean, yes, the aTm offense looked lights out good last year, but we've seen time and time again how a brutally bad defense can make even the most anemic offenses look good. (prime example being our game vs Miami last year).
SCar was getting absolutely no push whatsoever from that DL, and their secondary was wandering in the wilderness. It was simple pitch and catch all night long for Hill. If I were a SCar fan this morning, I'd be VERY worried about every game on the remainder of the schedule. It looked glaringly obvious that Clowney meant far, far more to that team than even they knew.
Dabo is salivating
My only question is, since this is a Quality In Conference SEC Loss* (tm pending), does USC stay in the top ten?
#sarcasticabutwhoreallyknowsanymore
(hmmm...looking closely, I may have done something there)
they'll probably somehow rise in the polls
Soooo who saw the hilarity of the vandy jersey debacle?
I couldn't stay up that late. It was looking like the Vandy game was going to be delayed so long that the rebroadcast was going to be live.
Do you want me to ruin the most entertaining coach-ref argument I've ever seen?
now I'm intrigued
Yeah, seriously, can we get a link or something? I have work to ignore here.
documentation...
That's one of the funniest things I've seen recently. All that could've been avoided with a simple call to the head of officiating, or someone else higher up in the SEC. It's not like they didn't have 2 hours or so before the game to actually see the jerseys and determine if there was an issue.
Plus the extra two hour delay. You would think those were Pac 12 refs.
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/8/28/6081587/vanderbilt-es...
Apparently, you can lose one timeout per quarter if you do not have approved name plates on the back of the jersey. The coach had to literally show the ref and e-mail from the head of SEC officiating saying that it was okay.
Only official school names and player names can be used on jerseys. I like how the ref said it "can be rectified at the beginning of any quarter."
The Academies have an exclusion for the NOB nameplates, as does USCe for their wounded warrior game...and a few others can get exemptions like Vandy did last night.
The link I posted outlines the exceptions:
"According to NCAA rules, there are only certain things that a team can put on its uniforms:
Player's name
School name
NCAA logo
Sleeve stripes
Logo for school, conference, mascot, postseason-game, memorial, the military
American flag
State flag
Words to commemorate the military like "Honor" and "Service" (only for service academies)"
Lost in all of the confusion over the uniforms is the fact that Vanderbilt, an SEC team, got housed 37-7 by Temple, from the non-Big 5 AAC.
but don't you know, Vandy doesn't count in the SEC greatness.
Now, Wake's loss last night... that clearly shows the ACC sucks
Welp, won't be allowed in the future.
You mean the NCAA screwed up a basic clerical issue that resulted in confusion for an institution or individual? Inconceivable!
I know, right.
Guess they knew something, and that's why they could produce the email so quickly on the sideline. Like a note from mom.
But honestly, why did it take until the 2nd quarter to realize it was a penalty?????
As a high school official, I can say it's often hard to keep track of the nitpicky little rules, like uniform logos/slogans, especially when they offer literally zero advantage to the team. That said, it's kinda unprofessional to decide in the second quarter that the entire team should be penalized for their jerseys.
Oh, I thought all of that was before the game. Wow, that's just sad. Again...after a nearly two hour delay.
I remember a few years ago, before they changed the rule about color vs color jerseys, when USC and UCLA agreed to both wear home uniforms for their game, NCAA be damned. The penalty then was for the visiting team (I think) to be charged one timeout for equipment violation. Not one per quarter.
Yeah, the timeout per quarter seems really excessive.
In that game, USC (visiting team) was penalized a timeout to start the game. UCLA immediately called a timeout afterward in a good show of sportsmanship. NCAA amended the rule that off-season due to this event.
On a side note, Robert Nkemdiche looks like Jadeveon Clowney.
I'm not gonna lie, I enjoyed seeing Boise St get the crap kicked outta them.
i bet the SEC and E$ECPN loved the outcome of last night's game. TAMU will skyrocket for throttling USCe in their own house, meanwhile USCe will fall 3-4 spots for getting rocked by another good SEC team.
#mediaboner
and ole miss will be in top 15 after a sloppy win. If Boise had a QB they would have won
You think so? I mean I know Ole Miss was scoreless for the 2nd and 3rd qtrs, but they ran it up and buried them easily in the 4th.
Don't think so. Ole Miss was way more talented but their QB was holding them back early but once he got in a rhythm in the 2nd half Boise had no answer.
You mean when he started throwing the ball to his receivers instead of Boise State's DBs?
Lol! The dude ain't no Eli Manning, that's for damn sure.
Haha pretty much.
