College Football Grid of Shame

I've always been a big fan of new university president Tim Sands, and this morning, he once again proved how awesome he is by tweeting out this excellent grid of shame. Let's all laugh for a bit at how UNC is just a smidge above Penn State in terms of shamefulness.

Wonder where Cowherd might place that LOLUVA logo?

Fortune Favors the Bold

why is ECU so low on the embarrassing end? I may have missed something

They'll really get after ya

Fine print at the bottom states that the level of embarrassment was determined by their 4-year APR, recent history of NCAA violations, percentage of athletic-department revenue being subsidized by student fees and state support, number of players arrested in the off-season, attendance last season, and, my favorite, their overall "ick" factor.

Is it just me or should the BooHoos be much more to the weakling side?

Sadly, UVA is pretty good at most sports outside of football. In the last few years, they've placed in the top 20 of the Directors Cup standings while we've hovered around 35. But fuck that noise. FOOTBALL

This is just for football. I think they're assuming UVA is going to be slightly improved this year, along with the fact that they have a very tough schedule might be enough to give them the benefit of the doubt. Of course, if they go 2-10 again, it'll be back down the line with em.

LOLUVA always satisfied with mediocrity... not surprised there.

1. This is awesome. #hokieproud
2. WV is lucky they don't take into account "fan behavior".

Regardless, it's great to be a Hokie.

How is UNCheat ranked above us in terms of powerhouse?

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

Projections. A lot of people are drinking the UNCheat Kool-Aid this year, and we have a lot of uncertainty.

"Exit light..."

2nd lowest on the grid.... Still no NCAA penalties to show for it....

What surprises me is there seems to be a positive correlation. And that seems to have flipped since 2011 when it appeared negative.

Could it be that top shelf programs are seeing the importance of keeping their athletes on the straight and narrow? Should we give the NCAA credit for that? Or are top programs just getting better at concealing their flaws?

Yes and no... there definitely seems to be a trend for the better... But I do think its worth noting just how much the Top 4 in the polls are in a grouping all by themselves on the bottom of that chart...

Why were we below the line in 2013? It still said we were a projected powerhouse but we were listed as slightly embarrassing? Was it the Michael Holmes thing that did it? Cody Journell?

probably both.

Had to be Cody's antics, and justifiably so

How did tOSU and Auburn end up above the line???? Well, maybe Auburn's tarnish is wearing off after last season. Anyone that can knock Satan and the big Red Elephants off should get some sort of props, right? And assume they didn't consider the band part of the team, so tOSU slides? (Same applies to WVewe and their fans. But daggum, they've had a lot of arrests...)

This is a really neat look at teams. No surprise Stanford tops the list.
