Hey guys, 4VPISU had a great idea about creating a map of TKP members so we can see where we are around the country and globe. I went ahead and set it up and if you want to check it out and place yourself on it you can go here:
https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=1085252&location=Blacksburg%2C%20VA&add=1
To place a marker hover over 'Additions' and select 'Add Marker- Simple'. From there add your name/TKP tag, city/state, hit 'ok' and your marker should appear. You can see other peoples markers by clicking on them. If you want to put your email or something to allow other Hokies in your area to contact you to hang out or watch games that's an added benefit. Cheers and Go Hokies!

Just wondering.....mold?
They planned ahead in case a Hoo wanted to place a marker.
I bet I will be the southernmost point on that map
For now...I may be moving soon, pending the results of my job search, and several of the jobs I've applied for are in Brazil.
gotcha beat by a little. i'm in st. pete. let's see if we have any key west or miami folk lurking around.
I'll take that bet!
I beat you by a few miles (Grant vs Orlando)
I think Billdozer is further South too.
MrMcHokie has you all beat so . Scratch that, Ebola Hokie is the furthest south now
*Was
Moved to Minnesota. Now competing for northernmost.
Have you been to Nye's Polaniase?
You must visit before they close down now scheduled for Jan 2016.
Get the Nyes Prime Bites
nyesauced skewered seared prime rib, mushrooms, and onions served with bleu cheese dip and bearnaise sauce.
Place opened in 50s and still looks it!
Can anyone beat Lima, Peru?
showboatinsumbitch :)
I didn't see your flag in Lima...?
JC! Winter Park! We gotta get more of the Central Florida Alumni on here!
I know I have yet to go to any of the events but I will be going to some of the games at the viewing location. The first two for sure.
Not to be a creep but lake Mary ? I actually live in Heathrow just moved thats crazy!!
Right on. The game watching parties are fun. I hear they have a really good location this year. My wife and I usually come out for the big games. Sadly, I won't be in town for the OSU game.
I'm a Hokie fan going to school at UCF.
damn I work like 2 blocks from ucf small world
I think we also had seats near each other and shared a number of high fives during the Miami game last year if I remember correctly.
Added mine.
I'm on the map!
Looks like Mas Scott and I are holding down the lower Delmarva contingent.
Looking for the Chicago Maroon color marker...
Done and done. Proud to be first overseas TKP on the map.
Choose burgundy for the color because why wouldn't you

Nice work vtdirk12! This will be really cool to see!
#ALLMAROONEVERYTHING
Added - The Sweetest Place on Earth.
#NoVA
#whalesvagina
San Diago?
Any chance you work at a hospital out there? Im looking at moving out west for residency and UCSD has some surgery spots I want
This comment has beer goggles all over it...
Hmmm, I'm the only one in Blacksburg. Or are other students putting their markers where they are from before that?
I was pondering the same thing. Can you put two?
I put two, home and school.
Awesome idea!! Even cooler when you zoom out. :)
OK, who put Joe in North Korea?
makes sense, he is our Supreme Leader afterall
That and (now that this feature was added) Big Brother.

I'll make an educated guess and say it is a former poster that called me a dictator after I disabled his account. Or someone making a joke. Either way, well played.
1 of the 8 people that got the hokiestone boot, it should be easy to find them then!
Joe be like:
Done. Doubt there will be any Rhodie Hokies, seeing as we have only 232 registered alums in-state...I'll carry the flag!
What? You're not in Philly?
Was Philly. As of 6 weeks ago I am no more...breaking up is hard. Changing my handle would just be confusing, and I'm a simple guy.
Couldn't you be "The Artist, formerly known as 'PhillyHokie007'"
I've seriously contemplated doing that now that I've left El Paso...
I always assumed you liked vinyl records...
Whatever. I bet you arent a British spy either.
If it helps I left that state to come to Tech.
shocked that I was the first one in charlotte.
I'll be the only one from ol' podunk Shelby. Just down the road from Charlotte!
I was born in ol' pudunk Shelby. That's about it.
As much orange & maroon as we see on cars down here, I'm surprised to only see a handful of tags on the map.
Did anyone creepily click on all of the tags near you? Just me? Okay.
Friends!
Leg for referencing one of the most underrated movies of all time!
Definitely and underrated flick. Speaking of Jim Carey, I am so excited and so very nervous for the new Dumb and Dumber.
Guilty as charged! I see BUGGZY is just across Braddock Rd. from me.
No one lives near me.
Don't feel bad....nobody wants to admit to living here.
Eastern Kentucky?
No, silly....Charlottesville.
Having grown up 18 mi. from Kentucky, I find eastern Kentucky....very home-like.
Justified home-like? I kid...
If you thought Justified was overplayed, then just watch the reality show Kentucky Justice, which is about Harlan County. I cant remember the last time a tv show and reality show went hand in hand like that. The same drug related crime is a daily reality on Kentucky Justice. Speaking of Justified, I was pretty upset that they announced the show is over after this next season airs, so enjoy it while we have it.
Yeah sad news about the show. Maybe they can spin off something with the "locals."
As sad as I was, I was also a bit happy. I love the show, and I hate when shows I love go on too long and start getting really crappy. Somewhere around 50-60 episodes is enough, I think.
I gotta admit....I'm totally lost on this comment. I have no idea what you're talking about.
Justified, the TV show on FX. Set in lower, eastern Kentucky. Harlan County.
Never heard of it, but know Harlan County fairly well.
They say in Harlan County there are no neutrals there.
I am just seeing this thread for the first time, but if you missed Justified, you owe it to yourself to get the DVDs or stream it or whatever folks do these days. One of the best shows on the tube, I thought, and I was definitely sad to see it end.
hi from another Hokie in KY
Wanna watch a game together? I'm so lonely out here.
Sure, maybe later in the year though. I'm in the middle of a move for the next month or so and its sorta hectic.
Done.
Only two of us in Georgia?
Well, I live in Alabama but work in GA. Tax break in the Heart of Dixie is awesome!
My first guess is that you live in/near Phenix City and work in Columbus. How close am I?
I just recently moved down to Dothan. I drove through Columbus on the way down here. That's where I saw the first signs for Dothan.
I live in GA, but work in SC! Guess it evens out.
Hey! I see you live in Augusta also. I'm planning on having some people (also Tech alum) over for the OSU game on Saturday and was wondering if you would be interested.
Holdin' it down, son!
Do the Atlanta Hokies congregate anywhere to watch the games? I'll be in town for work for the Western Michigan game and if it works out timing wise i'd be down to join ya'll for the game.
Just left ATL. They watch games at a restaurant called Hudson Grille in Brookhaven (just north of Buckhead). There's generally good turnouts and it's a fun group of people.
I dunno about Atlanta, but I wish there were more Athens Hokies besides me and my wife.
Ebola Hokie? sheesh, stay safe sir or madam.
Done, Grant, FL. Soon to be in Christiansburg, VA!
Who are the guys from Midlothian Virginia? I grew up there, went to Midlothian Highschool.
I am a transplant, having lived in Midlothian for about 8 or 9 years now, but I grew up in Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania and went to Chancellor High School (not exactly a hotbed of football recruits).
Courtland grad here
My brother went to Courtland in the late 80's, back when they kicked ass at football. They won a state championship in AA the first two years he was there, went up to AAA in his third year and lost their first game of the year in the playoffs. His senior year the won the state championship in AAA. They lost one game in the four years he was there. He started as a kicker and ended up playing split end in his senior year. Those Courtland football crowds were ridiculous back then. It was like a mini-Lane stadium with the air raid siren and the canon.
Then they built Chancellor High School, split the students up between the two schools and football in the area was never the same.
We had a kicker at Tech from Courtland. If i remember correctly he was the kicker sent home by bus ticket from New Orleans during the Sugar Bowl vs Michigan :/
Yep, that was him. Missed curfew and received a Greyhound ticket.
Yeah, Tyler Weiss was in my Spanish class back in the day... haha
I was hoping for it to be his chance to shine in that game, but ah well.
I knew his older brother at Courtland and also at Tech
What is it with kickers? My kicker brother, oddly enough went to Radford...
...and proceeded to fail out since he never attended a single class. I will repeat that since some of you may not think that those words in that order actually make sense. My brother failed out of Radford.
Impossible is nothing.
I played court land back when I was at Prince George high. Think 96 or 97
I'm a Courtland grad as well! 2009 for me...
Now I'm a ways away in Arizona though
edit: replied to the wrong one
Grew up in MD, but now in Midlothian and love it.
I grew up there and went to James River High School
What class?
I grew up in Powhatan. Moved to Midlo about 4 years ago. I had a lot of friends that went to Midlothian High.
I went to Midlothian, graduated in 94.
L.C.Bird Class of 2007
Midlothian High school class of '08
Matoaca class of 2007
...kinda figured I'd be the only one in South Dakota
No one else in Winston-Salem huh, I am like an island out here.
I'm have ties to W-S (ie Mayberry, NC).
Does that count?
Me too. Co-op'ed in Winston-Salem. Used to walk the Wake Forest campus after work. There was this one creepy guy on Faculty Drive who would parade around his house butt naked, no curtains. I always wondered what subject he taught.
Male Anatomy 101.
Did he happen to look anything like this?

Do not EVER post my picture here again!
Shouldn't you be out lookin' for that musclely armed paperboy to bring you some good news?
Oh I am so sorry sir. Is this one more acceptable?

Now you done it! Not my wife's picture too!
I'm so sorry sir. I thought you were in fact some sort of computer animated prehistoric squirrelly animal and not a actual cartoon human.
Grew up in Winston. Moved out to Bristol, TN to prepare for 2016. You're just not as dedicated a Hokie as I am...
Close, Greensboro.
All done...I think I'm the closest to Lane Stadium :)
Is that lego Deadpool?
Yes it is!
Dude, if you could make it happen a maroon and orange Deadpool as your avi would make you unkillable
All maroon!
I'm the closest to Beaver Stadium!
I especially like that the Commonwealth Cup has its own marker.
Yep, probably about time to give it another good shine, polish'n buffer.
2 observations.
First of all... apparently we've overwhelmed Scott Stadium yet again
Secondly, whoever tagged UVa in Paris...
yes, and we're standing on the field in the shape of a swastika. that's umm. . . hmm.
In reality, it should be a VT in Scott Stadium...
BTW Blue Collar - Noticed the map - I grew up in Stuarts Draft.
Stuarts Draft?

Did you go to SDHS? I'm class of 96.
SDHS class of 03. Did you graduate with the Hatter boys?
I did, I did. I think Charlie was a year after me.
WHOOOO!!! Staunton people!!!!
I grew up there but now live around Richmond.
Was just in downtown Staunton last week - the Wharf area is always cool to check out and the Bistro always has a few good taps, and great food.
I remember when the Bistro was J. Ruegles (sp?). My dad always went there to watch NFL games and play QB1. BEST BAR GAME EVER!
I head down that way ever now and again. Guess I need to head downtown or to the wharf. Last time we hit up the drive in burger place for a shake. The time before that we hit some breweries. Queen City brewing needs some help...
Yea, I stay away from the breweries in Staunton - Rt. 151 in Nelson is worth the extra drive across the mountain for beer.
Blue Mountain and Devil's Backbone >>>>>
Going to DB in an hr for their craft brew fest. Leg for you.
Don't forget Wild Wolf.
Was just at Wild Wolf and Blue Mountain this past weekend - both were solid. Missed out on the VA Craft Brewers Festival - but sounds like it was a good time.
SDHS Class of '86. First class to go all the way through with Mayor Avoli as Principal.
Lot of Augusta County reps on here.
Welcome to TKP by the way!
Good grief... I didn't zoom in all the way, so I'm just seeing that.
Whoever did that should be ashamed of him/herself. Thats just embarrassing.
yeah...I saw that and LOL'd
the UVa in France..thing..i get it..heh...heh..
Someone else is from Irmo, SC? Awesome. I live near Charleston now but I'm from Irmo.
Mmmmmm......Charleston...........
How I miss the Windjammer and Juanita Greenberg's Nacho Royale.....
I was just in Charleston 2 weeks ago and saw a couple of Juanita Greenbergs. My first thought was that she must be a Jewish Hispanic lady and thus serves Kosher Nachos. That's quite a name.
I am often surprised at how many of us Hokies have flocked to Charleston. Must be cuz we so smart.
Charleston is great. Thought I might be the only one on the boards here.
i was just in Chucktown the weekend of the 9th
LAHokie - what's up, neighbor?!?
Added mine. Kingsport, TN
This was/is a great idea
#TeamTri-Cities
Looks like krak_t is a part of #TeamTri-Cities as well
I wish I could still be #TeamTri-Cities. VTMaroonOrange, if your map point is decently accurate, I grew up 2 minutes from you in Maple Hills. When I worked in Gate City after college I lived just down the road from mattfan. Why did I have to move to stupid Florida? The heat makes everyone mean and bat guano insane. And they don't put their gat danged shopping carts back in the corral!
I grew up in and went to high school at Gate City. You are going to make it back up for the Battle at Bristol, right?
Wouldn't miss it. I never miss a chance to make sure a UT fan knows VT is currently a better team and more relevant to the national stage. We may not have a long storied history like UT, but since 2001, Tennessee football might as well be Mississppi State. They call it a curse, I call it sucking.
Ummm...I live in Maple Hills. Moved there about 2 years ago. Got to go to an off-site meeting for the rest of the day, but you will have to let me know about where you lived there (I don't want to give my exact location here just in case someone wants to hunt me down for my good looks and sports knowledge).
Ha! What a coincidence. I grew up on Williams Lane but haven't lived there full time since I left for college in 2003. Great location for going quickly to either side of Bristol or out to I-81, or to the other Tri Cities. Or Blountville!
Nice. I am off of Carlton. We like the location a lot. It's really close to the new bass pro that opened yesterday. Just in time for the race fans. Things are developing everywhere around Bristol. I think the battle at Bristol is really pushing the city to look good fast.
I got an officemate from Blountville. And she taught me how to pronounce it right ("blunt-vul" instead of "blunt-ville").
You have been well trained.
Damn, I'm headed to Tri-Cities WA soon, and I was all excited that there'd be more Hokies there. But no...
Word to yo mama! Chilling in Johnson City when I'm not flying to my next job for two weeks at a time...
I'm on the map! In my adopted state. Surprised to see no one from my hometown area, the Northern Neck of Virginia. Peninsula between the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers, truly God's country. I know y'all are out there! Well there is that one guy at Dalghren, but his name is Anonymous. Hello Anonymous!
Spent much time growing up in the Lively Nuttsville metropolis
Many fond memories of the ppl and area
Lancaster County is beautiful. Fun fact: the Worshams, for whom Worsham Field is named, live in Kilmarnock, ten miles east of Lively. It's in Wikipedia, so it must be true.
Where at ? Family is all from Oak Grove, Westmoreland.
Montross, ten miles east of Oak Grove. I kid you not.
Know Montross well, mom, aunts and uncles and cousins all went to W&L, used to go to the roller ring and the little ice cream place all the time back in the day.
W&L class of 82 here. The Dairy Freeze and Stan's Skateland were the big hangouts back in the day. Actually they were the only hangouts. My family's still there -- I was the first to leave.
82' you might know some of my family. Worrell, Marders and Groves.
I'm the only one in Germany?
Not too far from you. Colmar, Alsace, France here.
I'll add mine as soon as I relocate back to the 757. Gotta love walking into the office on a Monday morning and your boss says "Hey! We're transferring you! Oh and you have two weeks. Have a great day!" ...
I dont even remember writing this... Anyway a year later and Im getting ready to move again *facepalm* luckily its in-town so hopefully it wont be too bad. I just added my future residence since the move is happening in two weeks.
On a different note, anyone having as much fun as I am reading super old comments??
Wow someone else close to kingstown, Ft. Belvoir maybe?
Springfield off Braddock Rd., but I went to Hayfield right around that area.
Right by my old stomping grounds! My parents live right behind West Springfield HS
1. This is probably the best thing I've heard of all week
2. I see there's two of us in Lynchburg VA
I'm in, I know there are at least two more fans living in Michigan........
Yup. I just placed my name on the map. Mid Michigan.
The only one on Cape Cod! Unfortunately, I didn't notice you could change the color of the flag until after I posted...
Looks like we're pretty thin in all of MA. However, I'm in Cambridge frequently and occasionally see VT apparel on what I assume are alums.
I grew up in Springfield, VA, but have been up here on the Cape for over 18 years now.
Giles County childhood myself- parents moved to Ripplemead when I was@ VT, so I'll always get that Hokie triva question about FG kicker correct. Have you beat by a few years as a New England resident, and not proud of that.
there are about as many MA hokies as there are fans of the BC-VT crossover games.
I've been to several of the Hokie games at BC, including the last two years. BC is such a dismal place to watch a football game, completely devoid of any college game day atmosphere.
The Barn has been added
What's the over/under for flags in NOVA?
150? 250? Any takers?
300
Keep this in mind:
2,000
Dropped mine in Roanoke.
I see a guy "sparko" right near me.
I'll check back later.
I'm not going to the anOSU game.
Might need to organize a tailgate.
I know there are a number of Hokie alum out here in the Phoenix area. Would be interested to see if any others post on the site.
I'm one! I just moved out here so I'm definitely looking for someone to watch some games with!
Looks like you are down in the Chandler area?
The alumni group used to meet right in Old Town Scottsdale for the games, but it's moved to northern Scottsdale at the Tilted Kilt. Quite a drive for you from the looks of it.
Well here I am, the only TKP'er south of the equator. Thank heaven that I am getting a Slingbox installed in NOVA this week in order to watch the Hokies this season. No more crummy feeds from European sports websites to catch my beloved Hokies kicking butt in the ACC and beyond.
you need to get to know VTPhreak. He is the savior for all overseas Hokies and sets up streams to almost every game.
Yeah, follow @vtphreak4evr on twitter and he'll post about his streams the day of games
Thanks guys, I have used VTphreak's feeds in years past, sometimes I had trouble with them (back when I was Honduras Hokie) and so I had to go use the European feeds. No more of that for me now, I am LIVING LARGE with VT FOOTBALL courtesy of the Sling. Cannot wait to taste the tears of my OSU supporting co-worker here in Lima. So Sweet!
Kevvvin27 - I think I literally lived across the street from you last year
I'm here for another year...
One thought...maybe people should also consider adding in the nearest Hokie Bar to them for those that are looking to gather with other Hokies to watch games.
So I'm the only Hokie in Wyoming? Guess that means I'll just have the cheer louder and blast Enter Sandman every Saturday.
Yeah I know I'm not the only Hokie in State College, PA, but I guess joelestra hasn't seen this yet.
Hey Horse- Our Alumni Chapter (Central PA) is planning on coming up to State College for the VT/Penn State bball game on Dec 3 - Unfortunately, I can't make it.
Sounds like it'll be worth my time to trot over to the Bryce Jordan Center. I'll look this up when we get closer to the date.
Looks like joelestra finally caught on and added himself in State College, but apparently he thinks he lives downtown in a parking garage.
Why, joelestra, why didn't you choose the maroon marker to match up with the orange one I used. WHY!?
He hasn't left the garage since the Christmas party.
I have a Hokie Friend in Cheyenne. He doesn't get on TKP, though. Don't know why, as I've introduced it to him.
VTPhoenix - according to the map you live a stone's throw away from me. (I live in Redfields.)
You both are close to where I lived when I first moved to Cville....Country Green
I'm in Fort Collins, CO, so not too far away from the Wyoming border. There's a pretty strong contingent of us in the Fort Collins/Loveland/Boulder area. I certainly see people wearing VT gear at least every week.
I have an ex-Hokie wife in Ft. Collins...
Yea, that's not too far. If you guys get together to watch the OSU game lemme know, I'm definitely looking for somewhere to watch with other Hokies.
hey man, if you ever find your way to south Dakota...
I'm actually going hiking in Wyoming tomorrow
What part? I just got here but I kinda know the area around Casper.
I don't know who did it, but whoever arranged all the anonymous pins in the shape of a VT at Lane North is a genius.
It was originally a swastika... Someone added in a bunch more to turn it into a VT, and for that, I applaud that person
Upstate NY representin' (although I'd rather be in VA or the Carolinas).
EDIT: Near this:
Sam the Bugler, Saratoga Springs Race Track, VT Fight Song in 2012
No words...tear.
I'm actually working near Saratoga Springs for another week and a half...
I used to rent a house on Nelson Ave that was just at the head of the track. We were stationed at the Prototype up in Ballston Spa. I found out my brother-in-laws family settled in Ballston Spa. The first thing he asked about was if I'd been to the bottle museum. I guess it's sort of a joke for them even.
Added.
all these places all over its time to start laying down some recruiting grounds for the 2016 class!
jacksonville florida here.
with our powers combined!!!!
Did anyone else feel bad for Ma-Ti? Everyone else had cool powers like fire and water and he just had heart. Also he was the fifth wheel in the group. He also always seemed to be the kid that lost his ring or didn't show up.
I completely forgot about it until you mentioned him.
Just added another one to Jax!!
HDubya, I think your pin is on my old apartment in Carlton Scott. That's awesome. You're awesome.
Surprised there are not more Baltimore Hokies...
Lot of Hokies from there, but they got out...
What he said.
Even the Fullers couldn't keep them around.
The first Hokie to plant his flag (so to speak) in Music City! Where are all the other Hokies in the buckle of the Bible Belt? Otherwise, sadly, known as SEC country.
I'm in Cookeville (around an hour, hour +15 east) if that counts. TN Hokies represent!
#TNHokies
Drive through Cookeville often, traveling to see family in Knoxville. The Cookeville Starbux and Chickfila are regular stops. Go Hokies!
Y'all can know what city I'm in. Y'all are crazy if you think my actual home address is going on there oh my no.
e: Hey there are two of us in Austin!
I would hope everyone generalized their location. The few people I've conversed with that are near me did the same.
Eh, if you drove slowly around the neighborhood I put on the map, your mobile device would probably eventually latch onto WifiOnATreadmill.
I put my exact location. Happy to meet up with anyone if they can actually get here
Hey, you're in Austin too!? Helllll yeah.
Only Hokie in the bay area...
I work for a SF-based software company -- if that helps??
I used to live in Boulder Creek (Santa Cruz Mountains). Love that area!
Whoever put Morgantown as the Inner Circle of Hell, Well played. I fell in the floor laughing. My wife just shakes her head and doesnt even ask...
Added NC State's marker. Y'know, in case you're looking for an "agricultural school" inside city limits of a state capital.
Who added "Ebola Hokie" to Seirra Leonne?? so hatefull....but funny...
I didn't think I would be quite so lonely down in Wilmington - I've run into a bunch of grads, guess I am just going to have to bust them to get on TKP. I might be a serial viewer but I am proud to have recruited a couple our way.
I'll be down there next weekend. I heard Sweet and Savory was the place for Hokies to go watch games so I'll likely be there.
As will the wife and I! What brings you down to the coast?
Family is gathering there for the weekend. Will be back there for New Year's too. It's a good meeting point for all of us that's nearly the same distance from everyone.
Hey, just went in to log my location and note that I have a fellow Hokie in Ventura, Ca. WOW. Thought I was all by myslef yelling at the TV during Hokie ball in the fall. Hello to whoever Anonymous239 is.
The only one in CBUS :'(
Just left Ohio after 7 years. Lived in Powell, Dayton and Delaware. So glad to be out.
I've been up in Mentor the past 10 years or so. Last season was the first season since I've been here that I didn't venture outside the state to make a game. The neighbor across the street is a Hokie from Richmond, they got a Hokie gnome as a surprise housewarming gift when I found out.
Added mine. Another for the Ballston area of Nova
This is really great. I keep coming back to see the updates. Mesmerized by the map. . .
Decatur, GA checking in. Good to see some fellow acolytes of the ill-tempered woodland foul slowly populating the Dirty-Dirty.
This is such a cool idea. Happy to see there are plenty of TKPers in my future home (moving to Raleigh next year somewhat involuntarily).
There's tons of us down here. trianglehokies.org and the accompanying Facebook page are your best bets.
We're also known to make the occasional comment on here as well.
I'm on TKP MAP!!! This is the kind of spontaneous introduction that makes people!!!
Birmingham, AL representing. Only Hokie in a land of Bammers.
My uncle is a Tech alum and huge fan living in Clay Alabama, don't think he is on the site though.
Its a magical place. Smartest move I've made in a while.
I'd love to see a few more TKP-ers in Prince William.
I grew up in Manassas and my parents still live there. I didn't go by hometown though, just marked (roughly) where I am now.
Yeah, that's where I am now. There are a few in Fredericksburg and a whole bunch in Fairfax. I'm one of two repping Prince William County, it looks like. I do have a Navy/Florida State fan who lives close by, though.
O rly? I grew up in Fauquier, so I know Manassas pretty well.
I grew up in Manassas as well. 1982-2000 there, then Blacksburg. I think at this point we could argue that Manassas is the world's leading TKP turkey leg producer.
Well played
Created an account tonight so I could find other Hokies in Charlottesville. I see VT stickers all the time but have yet to meet any Hokies here.
Leg for VT Biochemistry. Welcome!
Thank you! I've been lurking here for a while so I feel like I know you guys already haha.
this probably doesn't count..but I'm from Charlottesville...I don't currently live there though
I just got here to start graduate school in July so I'm still getting used to finding my way around and avoiding the undergrads haha.
Well, here's a leg! Best of luck to you in your endeavor. I hope you come out unscathed.
What are you studying?
Well somehow managed to not reply to your comment and instead the whole thread. Sorry about that.
Thank you! I'm studying Biomedical Sciences (probably Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology specifically). Luckily all of the labs and classes are right next to the hospital so I don't see many undergrads day to day.
EDIT: Meant to reply to another comment not the whole thread. Sorry!
Good luck. From one BMS alum (UCSD) to a future BMS alum.
Hey, other people from San Jose!
Nobody else from Greensboro? Surprising.
I just moved to fairfax after 3 years in Winston Salem. Loved going to Grasshopper games for dollar beer nights.
Behind the curve here but this is really cool!! I'm not seeing any other Hokies in SOMD. Sadness.
Know the feeling. I'm the lone orange one just easy of Salisbury.
I know a diehard Hokie that lives just west of Princess Anne...
anyone want to guess my location?
The Dallas/Ft. Worth area?
just bumping this...
Just moved down to the Myrtle Beach area in March. See lots of VT stickers and plates on cars. Hopefully soon we will get an official SC VT license plate.
Finally added myself to the map! Pleasantly surprised to see another girl TKPer that lives less than 5 minutes from me in Bristol!
Hey Girl! Good to see you posting again. :)
Hey! Thanks! Good to be back and see you too! It's been super busy over the course of the past couple of months, I got accepted into occupational therapy school, have been traveling quite a bit, and I lost both of my grandparents within 97 days of each other so what time wasn't spent on the road or at work or school was spent in a hospital or hospice house. Glad things are settling down so that I can relax a little and enjoy VT football with everyone :)
Going to school at King University?
I was there for my first two years of college after graduating from John Battle in 2011. I'm technically what you'd consider a college senior. I planned on doing their nursing program then I totally had a mid-college crisis and changed my major. I liked King but I guess you could say that their staff screwed me over... I took a breather year at Virginia Highlands and then applied for their occupational therapy program and got in. So that's what I'm doing until spring 2016. Going to get my masters at Belmont in Nashville after that I think.
Gotcha. My wife works for King (nothing working with the students, so don't apologize) so I know some of the issues they have had recently with the President stepping down, etc. Thought I would see if you went there since I am over there a decent bit. Good luck at Virginia Highlands.
Bristol Hokies!
You get an obligatory leg from me for hating Tennessee.
TeamTriCities!
Before the Bristol game in 2016 all of us TriCities people will have to compile a list of places to eat and things to do for everyone coming in town.
Shouldn't be too hard. There's not a whole lot! No, it's growing quickly, so hopefully there will be something better than just Mad Greek (my favorite place).
I have lived here all of my life and have yet to eat at Mad Greek. I'll have to try that soon.
To out of region people I'd have to suggest: Blue Ridge Barbecue (their barbecue and blue cheese dressing- YUM), Pal's (of course, it's a legend whether I get sick of it or not), any restaurant on State Street in Bristol (I love 620 state), Valentino's near King, Riverfront Seafood Company in Kingsport, Greg's has a good pizza in Johnson City, La Corona on 394 and El Patio at exit 7 have great mexican food, The Farmer's Daughter in Greenville, Abingdon has some great restaurants but they can all be quite pricey... That's about all I can think of for authentic tricities restaurants that I enjoy besides the chains. Hopefully by 2016 we'll have that Calhoun's and Smoky Mountain Brewery that was supposed to go in with Cabelas.
And there's a restaurant in Johnson City called "Hokie Smokie" based off of the Virginia Tech-Tennessee rivalry but I've never ate there... They even have smoked turkey legs for tradition's sake.
Welcome back as well, when I moved down to Johnson City, I knew there was at least one Hokie fan around (you lol). Fyi, Hokie Smokie is freaking amazing, the loaded spud is awesome.
Oh man, I miss Pal's. Was always my favorite when I was visiting my sister at Milligan in Johnson City.
I have fond memories of Pal's. My grandmother used to live right behind Pal's in Lyn Garden, with the giant guy holding a hamburger. Consumed many a hamburger there.
Everyone needs to go to Pal's while they are in town. You just have to. I was home this past weekend and it was my first stop after being picked up at the TRI. That new Philly cheese steak hot dog hybrid they have is a failed experiment though. Luckily you can still get a big chicken!
Great idea. Have a leg for #TeamTriCities
Sorry for your loss. I lost my last Grandfather back in April. Been trying to visit and help my Grandmother cope as much as possible. It's so sad how lonely she is. Congrats on the program and best of luck! :)
Added!... Good to see more MoCo folks (MD not VA, obviously)
Someone on here said they have a Hokie friend in Cheyenne, I'm down here right now and work got cancelled today. Ask your friend if he wants to meet up with another Hokie to watch the game today, my email is my username @yahoo
Just wanted to bump this for any newbies on the site.
In the beer thread yesterday there were a pair that figued out they live in the same complex.....
Feel free to let it slip back down, but add yourself to the map!!!
S/O to Joe from North Korea lol
Any Jacksonville Hokies still lingering around? I have some questions for people who live there.
not jacksonville but I live 1hr away ...
Which way? When my wife's current contract is up we want to move away from Myrtle Beach. Want to move to a city still near the ocean/water, but want a bigger mertro area so looking at: Jacksonville, Charleston, Tampa Bay, Savannah(maybe) and Virginia Beach but low on the list. .
more south... like daytona orlando area sooooo i might not be of much help
My wife and I are in Jacksonville near the beach (yes, you can live in Jacksonville and be an hour+ from the beach). What info do you need?
Can you email me at
RedactedSent
I moved. Can I get my old marker taken off?
No. Just move back, it will be easier.
Yeah, it would.
Well, except for the whole "gainful employment" thing. Or the unbearably long commute if I kept my job here.
Hmm...after entering my location it placed me in the water. Guess I wasn't specific enough
Maybe you were a little too Pacific?
This is replacing me making the same joke only 21 hours late.
One of two in New Hampshire...Nobody here cares about college football because there aren't any schools with FBS football teams around, except BC (haven't met a single BC fan). TKP is my savior.
Watching a Hokie game in Moab, Utah one Thursday night at a "restaurant/bar" and a guy sitting at the bar looked at my VT hat, looked at the TV, looked at the VT, looked at the TV, then said, "Damn, I didn't know Vermont even had a football team!" I cracked up, explained about VT and our QB Michael Vick, and how it was our year, etc. As I left, he turned to the guy on the other side of him and said, "Vermont. Didn't know they had a team." Oh well.
Utah explains it all. The West Virginia of the west.
Park City regular... love the skiing. However, you always meet that guy out there...
Thurman
MurmanMormonThe Moab-Grand Junction area is amazing. Utah is hands down the most beautiful state in the continental US (I think Alaska is the coolest). Colorado is a close second. And not the areas near the big cities, when you get 4 hours away from SLC or Denver you really start seeing some amazing things.
I had no idea that Alaska was the coolest state in the country.
yep, by far the lowest average temperatures.
Dad Joke Alert!
We were there for Moab. Canyonlands is magical. We've spent weeks and weeks camping in the area over the years and plan to return this fall. While there are some strange folk out there, it's hard to find them amongst all the German and French visitors the fall usually brings to Utah. Fascinating scenery, though, nothing like it in the East.
I was at Navy Nuclear Power School in 2001 down in Charleston, went out with some folks for lunch with my VT hat on (maroon hat, orange VT, pretty standard), but it hat the small word "tech" across the front edge of the bill.
The girl looks at me a couple times and said, "what is that, Vermont Tech?"
Did you tell her its The University, Technically Speaking?
I would have been at the Nuclear school the same time as you, I was scheduled to be there at that time
FWIW The University of Vermont does not have a football team...so I guess he isn't completely out-of-touch. Football in Vermont is so sad that there is an entire high school division dedicated to 8v8 games (and not in the 7-on-7 skill position-centric style of play, but rather replicating 11v11 with three less people per side). It's sad.
I suppose the one saving grace is an acquaintance of mine, David Ball from Spaulding HS, broke Jerry Rice's 1-AA receiving TD record at UNH a decade ago under Chip Kelly. That's about it.
757 TKPer's unite!!
Here here!
Cheers, 757er born and raised. Now a 252er
Back in my day, it was still 804...
If you had said "back in my day it was 703" you would have sewn up the Old Guy Award for sure.
I'm 30. I remember SWVA having 703, 540, and 276.
Yep. Grew up in Salem,VA we had 703 for the longest time then switched to
540. 276 is near the VA/NC border.
ok so I'm a big nerd so I looked it up.
October 1947 - 703 area code assigned to the state of Virginia
June 1973 - 804 established for areas in central, southern, and eastern Virginia
July 1995 - 540 established for all non-804 areas south of Warrenton (from 703)
July 1996 - 757 established for tidewater (from 804)
March 2000 - 571 introduced as alternative area code overlapping 703 footprint
June 2001 - 434 established for central and southside Virginia (from 804)
September 2001 - 276 established for southwest Virginia (from 540)
Thank you. I just remember my dad having 3 different area codes in a 7 year span.
Just the 1980s. I was in Strasburg (northern Valley) for the 703-->540 shift in 95.
I placed my marker just a tad off - how do I correct that?
Can I put a marker for where I visited TKP frequently this spring - Rome, Italy?
Sure, why not?
Also, nice username
This is awesome. I just put my marker down in New Hope, VA. It was really cool to zoom all of the way out to see everywhere in the world Hokies call home. We really are everywhere!
New Hope! Stuarts Draft here
wrong thread...too early for me I guess
Kind of off-topic(and random), but I'm still pretty new to Blacksburg and the NRV...I was curious if anyone knew if anybody knows if there's adult pick-up basketball games held anywhere in the area. I used to play about every day and am looking to start back up. Thanks in advance!
This winter, we'd do pick up at the blacksburg rec center on Patrick Henry. Then warm weather came and everyone was playing other sports. I know there's open gym time, but I can't guarantee there will be a group playing.
you also may be able to swing access to War or McCommas on campus.
You can find pick up most of the time over at Christiansburg Rec. mostly all year. Unless league's are going on. And during that time of year in the winter its better to just join one of the bball leagues, you can join a team as a single and don't have to have a team already put together.
And in most gyms in the area you can find a group playing on Sunday afternoons. (Christiansburg Middle, Dayspring Christian, sometimes Blacksburg High. Awhile back they use to post open gym times on the door of the gym.
Mine placed me on my favorite fishing hole in the river. I guess this map knew I'd rather be fishing than at home?
just bumping this for the newcomers to the site...
Wow - since the beginning of this thread, I have moved 3 times with 4 total locations across 3 states.
Time to tim settle down 4VPISU.
Thanks for the bump. Forgot to update this after the move to GA.
