Makes our impending upset of tOSU that much sweeter
I think you mean anOSU.
Good, I want to save it for next week.
Too bad we won't have a chance to improve our record against Top-5 teams now...
I know, that kind of pisses me off. Ohio State drops a bunch of spots after their game against Navy, but Alabama stays where its at after almost taking a dump against the cousins. Freakin pollsters can eat a bowl of dicks:
same story with Ole Miss. almost got flipped over in a portapotty then they decided to show up in the 4th quarter.. but bama will always troll. I wouldn't be surprised to see 3 SEC teams in this year. If they're already talking about how it would work there has to be an inside job to implement it too
TROLL TIDE!
Expanded Rankings
1) Florida State
T-21) UNC
23) Clemson
25) Louisville
28) Duke
38) VT
47) Pittsburgh
Klemson is comical. They get their doors blown off and remain ranked. I'm sorry, but no 0-1 team is better than a 1-0 team.
Add to that UNC...they are getting beat by LIBERTY into the second half, but make it look easy late. Should've dropped in the polls.
Meanwhile OSU beats Navy by about what everyone was expecting, and they drop.
This is reason #472 why there should not be preseason polls. Either have them start after the first week and rank the best teams AT THE TIME...or wait until week 4.
FWIW-I don't think we should be ranked this week anyway. Little surprised we didn't move up to 23-25 range to pump up the ratings for this week's game.
I agree, for at least the first couple weeks of the season there should be no ranked teams with losses. Period. End of Story.
Week 4 is a great time for rankings to begin.
Are you seriously confused about Ohio St dropping? I mean I understand the final score, but did you watch the game? Ohio St was only up by 3 with 9 minutes left in the game against Navy.
Don't get me wrong, I am pissed that they dropped and now we don't have a chance to beat a "Top 5" team, but I have absolutely no problem with any of the teams that jumped over them in the polls.
Yea, it sucks the writing is already on the wall for OSU. Analysts are starting to count them out. A VT win will not be impressive in any analyst's eyes, it will more likely be viewed as how far OSU has fallen. Likewise, a loss to OSU will not be viewed as a "quality" loss.
Unfortunately, you are right. But you know, I'll still take that not-so-quality win :)
Plus, they are probably compensating for Braxton Miller. If the preseason poll had come out a week later, post-injury, then OSU would not have been 5.
OSU would not be in top 25 had it waited a week. Polls mean nothing to me. 10 win seasons and a Big Bowl win is what counts
Outside the top 25? I don't know about that one. A Braxton-less OSU team is still (talent wise) a whole lot better than some of the teams in the top 25 now.
Idk man they dont have these three letters following them.. SEC.
No. Just pointing out the lunacy of the polls. They were penalized. While unc was not.
I say wait until after week 6 to issue rankings. Get the bulk of the cupcake OOC games out of the way and take the first couple conference games into account.
I would say South Carolina is just as bad as Clemson. Gave up over 600 yards and lost by more than 20 to a team with a brand new starting qb...
I think we were about 38th in the coaches poll also
Dook is 10 places higher then the Hokies!?!
Don't get worked up. It's only an aberration.
Well what would you expect?
It's not like we got blown-out an SEC team.
Good. Very good. Let them think it.
Ok, I'm sorry, but how the hell did UNC climb in the rankings? They looked like pure dogshit for 3/4 of that game, against a bad FCS team. Without Liberty shitting the sheets in the span of about a minute in the 4th, UNC wins that game by less than a TD, and they went from 23 to 21?
huh?
cause unc is the media darling of the acc this year.
Someone should take a twister spinner and photoshop the logos of every single team in the ACC onto the dots, and then put the caption "This year's ACC Media Darling will be..."
Or just use Rece Davis' ACC Wheel of Destiny.
I didn't expect us to be ranked this week. Next week, now that's a different story.
The Hokies won a scrimmage in their back yard on a nice sunny day by 25 pts.
Nothing to see here. Move along, please.
Can't wait till Sat, though.
These are a slight shift from the pre-season rankings. Which we all know are useless. Let it play out. This weekend will be determined ON THE FIELD! The way it should be. Let's go Hokies!
I'll wait for the CFB playoff committees ranking that comes out late October. An undefeated VT will look very good by then.
LOL @ the comments at ESPN claiming that UVA is a decent program and that UCLA should still be in the top 10 after only beating them by 8.
Shows who really pays attention.
Well LOLUVA does have all those highly regarded recruits that generally do nothing in their careers at LOLUVA.
I didn't see the game, but someone (who's football IQ is not 100% trustworthy) told me that they looked good. I spit beer at them, but never saw the game for myself. I'd like to know just how much of it was good UVA and bad UCLA.
Sadly I watched enough of the game to know that if the backup QB had started UVA probably would have won the game. Lambert gave UCLA three defensive TD's in 14 minutes.
To be fair Lambert was only directly responsible for the last of the 3 defensive TD's by UCLA. First one was tipped, second one was a fumble by the WR, but the third one was atrocious and all on Lambert. I was very surprised they benched him though. But I will agree that if their second string guy started, they might of won.
I will also say UVA's defense looked solid. I don't know how bad UCLA's offensive line is, but from the eye test, UVA's DL dominated their OL.
Bad UCLA doesn't begin to describe it. They were awful.
I would say they looked pretty bad since they scored 21 points for the other team
How dare you waste beer on UVA!!!
There is no such thing as good UVA.
I'd say UCLA wasn't prepared. But it does piss me off that UVA hung in there and we got hung out to dry in the bowl game.
From what I'm hearing, if UCLA played against us the way they did UVA, we'd have hung in there and beat them.
eah Quin Blanding looked outstanding with Brett Hundley's cleat marks going up his backside. Got run over on Hundley's TD run. I laughed out loud.
This is a carryover from VT's record the last two years. If we beat W&M 49-0 with 2 defensive and special teams TD's and had two RB's go over 100 yards with a dominant performance by Brewer (he was good and effecient no doubt); than pollsters would likely have moved them up. A solid win against an FCS team doesn't impress people who are still remembering that the last time they saw VT on TV was a whitewashing by UCLA. We are paying for the losses of the last two years by people who's towelboys take 5 minutes to fill in a bracket. It means nothing.
The AP has towel boys?
oops, shooting from the hip there, did not see AP poll
I amend my comment to say "People who watch the SEC get deep-throated on Sportscenter and take 5 minutes to fill out their brackets"
My complaint about this poll would be South Carolina still being ranked after being stomped into the ground in Columbia, no less. That was an ugly looking effort by the Gamecocks.
SEC lol i heard that they're giving them a break because the defense was tired and it was the opening game, and that the grass was too green. I also heard that they need 10 SEC teams in top15 so they can have 3 sec teams in the playoff.
I've already heard the 3 SEC teams in the playoff thing on ESPN and Fox Sports. smdh
Cocks looked limp
Hohooooo!!! Zuhzzzing!
I'm most surprised that UCLA is still a top 50 team after giving up a whopping 20 points to FCS lightweight LOLUVA
They gave UVA more credibility since they spent the off-season working on their usage of time outs. The practice really paid off for them.
UNC rose in the polls? A&M in the top 10, yet LSU barely moves? USCe still ranked after getting absolutely obliterated at home and with an injured Mike Davis? Also, Ole Miss rose after struggling with Boise State? Interesting...
Also, Tech got less votes than last week...
Not saying that I'm totally right, but I feel like people just don't pay attention sometimes.
Georgia going up to #6 was the most surprising to me. Yeah they handled Clemson in the second half, so put them at 10. 6 is way too generous.
I laughed when some of the pundits suddenly were projecting Texas A&M as the #1 playoff seed. Talk about a huge jump there. Yes, they played very well and totally housed USCe, but this prognostication is totally senseless at this point in the season. Let's see if they can keep up their success against better defenses.
I'm not one to scream SEC Bias, but some of their rankings get a little ridiculous. They have a talented team, but at this point in time, rankings are just fan fodder and media boosters.
Not upset about being unranked, but it does bother me that Duke is a full 10 spots ahead of us. I just refuse to accept their newfound proficiency at foozball.
Elon Phoenix, they'll get after ya.
Exactly what I was going I say
I want to upvote you...but I cant....
Soon.
Eh. We played William and Mary. It'll sort itself out as the season progresses. I think we'll be in the top 20 at the end of the year. With a few breaks, maybe higher.
We will be in the top 20 on Monday after we beat anOSU.
It's good to see that we at least got some votes. The improved offense was noticed after all.
Week #1-#4 rankings don't matter at all. Lets just worry about Saturday
Man, UVA sucks so bad that you fall in the polls even after you beat them.
Time to change all that...
DO AWAY WITH PRESEASON POLLS!!!!! But it won't ever happen cuz how else would the SEC get a 10-2 team into the CFB Playoff?
UCLA gained more spots than the number of fans at LOLUVA's spring game.
I'm honestly not surprised, our offense has been stagnant for the past two years and we beat up an FCS team. I think it'll take some time for us to climb the polls, unless we upset OSU this weekend.
All we gotta do is WIN!!!!! We do that, we'll be in good shape...
