The Key Podcast: Episode 102

Brian and his guests are talking Virginia Tech-Ohio State.

[ElevenWarriors.com]

On this week's rendition of The Key Podcast, I'm hosting a menage-a-pod, as Michael Citro and Johnny from the Ohio State blog Eleven Warriors join me to talk Buckeyes and Hokies. Listen as we discuss J.T. Barrett, "BeamerBall", plus many other thoughts and musings about this weekend's game.

I love the interactions with other fanbases, especially when they're knowledgable and simply fans of good football. Also caught the 11W podcast on their site, good stuff.

"Exit light..."

Ohio State wants to rely on their running game and their short passing game.

The two things that Bud Foster's scheme focuses on shutting down every week. Let's see how this plays out.

That's a bold strategy Cotton lets see how it works out for them

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

Strength vs. strength. The wildcard is out offense. I am choosing optimism.

Hey Brian/Mason: they said OSU's defense would try to just beat us with better players. Is this game going to come down to how good our tight ends really are? Seems like they're our best chance for a matchup advantage

I'm no Mason, but in my opinion I think we'll see a looooooooooot of those screens to Bucky to stretch the linebackers thin.

The tight ends are a big problem for defenses, especially in the redzone. Bucky Hodges is going to be a nightmare for any defense when spread out wide.

Make no mistake though, our best chance for a matchup advantage is our defense vs freshmen JT Barrett. Regardless of how Loeffler attacks Meyer's defense, he'll need the benefit of several short fields. If the offense doesn't turn the ball over but the defense does, Beamer and Co. have a good chance...

I happen to think they'll win that turnover battle.

Thanks for the feedback. For the record, I meant matchup advantages while we had the ball. We still really have no idea what the brew crew is capable of

I don't think we really know enough about the skill players yet to say who will be a match up problem for a defense as good as OSU. The tight ends are the best bet, but until we see what they look like running routes against tough press coverage... it really is just guessing.

I think that our young receivers (phillips and ford) could break out this year. I think that Stanford will be a very productive player for us, but I'm not sure how he'll fare against press coverage either. His strength appears to be running routes against zone coverage, finding the holes, and making the catch. Who knows, maybe he breaks out this year. And Shai and Marshawn are going to be a good runningback duo, but probably not a GREAT duo until next year. Maybe by the end of the year at the earliest.

Not to take any column ideas, but is there something specific you see Mar/shai missing? I know either you or French mentioned they missed some cutback lanes, and I know half the site was yelling at Marshawn for pad level after William and Mary

Is there a way to download these, so I can listen to them while I work out? Thanks

It should be available in the SoundCloud app, since that the hosting service they are using for the podcast.

Update: It is indeed on SoundCloud app. The user to follow is "thekeyplay". Episode 1 doesn't seem to be on there. I have no idea how to download it locally to my phone through that app or the desktop site though...

Question for TKP guys on this podcast: will you continue to use SoundCloud for this, or is there another service that you will be using? Thanks!

Thanks. When I downloaded the app for the last episode, it was never there for me to play. 102 is playable with the app on my phone.

itunes would be great though.

Same question here. I listen to podcasts via an iPod Classic (download to iTunes -> Sync to iPod...no apps on the Classic) Is there an easy way to get the Key Podcast into iTunes?

Big thanks to Brian for having me and Johnny on The Key Podcast, and also for being our guest on the Eleven Dubcast this week.

Looking forward to an exciting game on Saturday and, whatever happens, best of luck to Virginia Tech in the ACC this season.

Awesome job guys, I listened to both and really enjoyed it! Perfect for listening at work.

Brian, we need to put our heads together and come up with a sweet name and intro music like theirs.

Hyping up Hokie Nation one video at a time.

I am really loving these podcasts! Thanks Brian!! :)

Ahh, you gotta love it when media-types have the conversation skills of a 14-year old girl where every phrase is qualified by a "like" or "literally". Anyway...what was he talking about??

I'd say that you get what you pay for, but given that the content on this site is free, I'll say that you should be happy to get anything at all. Instead of insulting those who provide commentary and insight, how about being a contributor yourself?

Eleven Warriors released an excellent podcast summarizing the game:

VT '10--US Citizen; (804) Virginian By Birth; (979) Texan By the Grace of God.

Rick Monday... You Made a Great Play...

I also root for: The Keydets, Army, TexAggies, NY Giants, NY Rangers, ATL Braves, and SA Brahmas

First 2 minutes and I hear "I feel good... tied in the fourth quarter... Tech got a lot of breaks..."

I'm sorry, did you not see how VT led the WHOLE GAME, turned it over 3 times, and still Ohio State NEVER LED. They were down 21-7 at halftime. That's not exactly a great summary...

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

meh... every team that loses thinks the other team got lucky breaks. arguably the Marshawn fumble was a lucky break.

"...the [VT] defense isn't amazing or all-world or anything, but definitely serviceable..."

Definitely.
