Say what you will about Ohio State, their fans and athletic department respect the Virginia Tech Hokies and the football program coach Frank Beamer created. After the student massacre at Virginia Tech, OSU was one of the Universities wearing Hokies helmets during game.
Also, in a recent interview Coach Urban admitted that he learned so much from Beamer about Special Team when Meyer was promoted from receiver to special team coach. Likewise, coach Scot Loeffler admitted he learned a lot working for coach Meyer at the University of Florida.

Before and after the game, there will be mutual respect between OSU & VT. During the game, it will certainly be a different story. That is what college football is all about. Thats what makes college football fun to watch.
How should the Hokies repay Ohio State for supporting VT in the past?

by whooping that A$$ this saturday night ...oh and offering to pay for Urban Myers post game tear filled pizza?
Maybe before the game we could offer their team "Accidental" Death and Dismemberment insurance. I heard Aetna isn't too expensive.
By ending the Buckeyes 25 consecutive regular-season games, the longest streak in the nation, and 64 in a row at home against unranked nonconference opponents.
We have ended several long winning streaks before. Texas A&M at their house. Miami...
I was watching that Wisconsin vs LSU game and they asked the trivia question who the last OOC team to beat LSU in the regular season. I got it right...VT in 2002.
streaks are made to be broken
Continued respect. About all I can ask for.
Correct. If you're traveling to Columbus, don't act like an asshole, win or lose.
Model our team like the following:
Scheduling: FSU in the 90s. Anyone, anytime, anyplace
On the field: Stanford circa 2013. Put 12 linemen in and run em down
Off the field: I guess Stanford circa always
In the stands: Nebraska
About respect: Last weekend, when I was getting in my car to head out of Blacksburg, there were 4 William and Mary fans sitting around in chairs, listening to music, and enjoying the warm summer night. Before I got into the truck, I stopped and asked if it was their first time in Blacksburg. They said it was. I told them that I hope that they enjoyed their time in Blacksburg, hoped that they would come back if we play William and Mary again, and thanked them for coming out to watch the game and visit.
All four of them spoke very highly of our hospitality and welcoming feeling by the fans and thanked me for being friendly.
I know we have our bad eggs, every school does. But meeting friendly folks and hearing things like that when traveling away can truly make it a great experience. I hope OSU welcomes us to Columbus this year, and I hope Hokie Nation welcomes OSU to Blacksburg next year in a fashion to make every fan's experience enjoyable.
Went to the Miami-away game last year and my girlfriend and I were harassed every time we walked through the mezzanine to go between our seats and food or restrooms by Canes fans. They had no respect. Maybe we only ran into the bad eggs, as you say, but if there were good eggs, they weren't there that night. Made the victory THAT much more sweet though.
Roger that on Miami fans. I was in Columbus when we played them and they talked smack and bragged about having LeBron even if we got the crystal. Well, now we have both.
Unfortunately we have our share of idiots but the real fans respect VT and Beamer. I am looking forward to a good clean game and of course an OSU win. Be sure to check out the Skull season before the game where TBDBITL does its pregame show in St. Johns. 25k fans just to see the band. Grab a beer in Woody's in Ohio Union where you can catch the early game. Enjoy Cow Town.
Yes, I'll second and third that for Miami fans - but most of their fans never went to Miami - they just like to associate themselves with "Da U" and think they have swag...
Wish the would do a "U Respect" campaign
BTW - welcome to The Key Play, OSU78!
Wait - is y'all's place cow town or ours? I know ours is, just not sure which one you're referring to
Ours. We even elected a cow homecoming queen one year.
Hey now, I bet she was a damn good cow!
She was. Some folks had a beef with her winning since she slaughtered them in the final vote count. Her coronation was quite mooving and we milk it for all the publicity we can.
Was it a straw poll?
I bet they tried to brand her as a cheater, which is udderly ridiculous.
so you're saying she was not a legendairy cheater?
Only after she was steered down the wrong path.
I herd they were cheezed.
Ooh, nice hooves. Tryin' to hook a horse up?
it didn't help the drunk group behind me were vt fans and the girl threw up 10 minutes into the game. Also Miami fans are classless and many of them are week 1"the U is back baby" week 2 ohh fire golden" week 3 "our qb sucks put in the backup"
However my night was made when a guy in the first row in front of me got up and left after we went up 21-7 in the 2nd quarter.
Miami Fans= delirious, disrespectful, fair-weather, and absolutely funny to see leave in their home stadium.
MHMM Downvotes!!!!!!!! bahahah
Nothing truer has ever been said. Case in point, some guys from CanesInSight have already ponied up the money to have a plane drag a banner over Sun Life Stadium this weekend during at 5pm saying "Fire Golden - We Want Mike Leach" and some others are going to do it for the FSU game as well.
Shhhhhh. Don't let the LOLUVa fans in on how to advertise to get rid of Time Cop.
Worst part is, these idiots will be pulling this stunt during a decently large recruiting weekend for the Canes.
Nothing says "come to our school and play for me" like your fans hiring a plane to pull a banner begging your employer to fire your ass.
I mean, if they showed up to the game, they could just say it. Both fanbases could for that matter.
Sounds like what ESPN's Dan LeBatard planned to do once LeBron left his beloved Miami Heat. I don't understand why, but Miami sports fans are the most irrational self absorbed delusional group I think I've ever seen. I say that fully aware of the fanaticism of SEC football fans.
I think most fan bases that have respect for college football will be respectful of other teams. LSU fans were great when I was down in Baton Rougue. They offered gumbo and beer in exchange for my take on college football. Couldn't have been more welcoming (for the most part). I think tradition rich programs take pride in showing respect for opponents before and after the game: during the game they want their team to win (don't we all). I look forward to nearly 2 full days of pregaming in Columbus and hope that anOSU's fans live up to my expectations.
Except for Bamy and Meeshugan fans.
Gumbo n beer for football discussion...you win. That is awesome! I'm sure it was great expefrience...fully dipped!
Regardless of the game's final score, we can all agree on one thing.
IT WAS A CATCH. SCREW MICHIGAN.

If you get into a disagreement with anOSU fan, bringing up our mutual distaste of Michigan might help.
Be sure to call it That School Up North.
I have zero doubt they'll disagree with this.
I need a beer, was that a triple negative?
I don't think the word doubt qualifies as a "negative".
Ruling: confusing double-negative; drink a beer
Are defense is gonna make Overrated State Universities quarterback JT Barrett wish Braxton never got hurt
There are a few programs that I do not respect. anOSU is not in that list. Be classy, Hokies. Win or lose graciously. Toast to a hatred of Michigan (and/or PAC12 refs) at the bar with everyone.
Tell me about it buddy. After traveling to Orleans from TX, holding my two yr old daughter in my arms (while standing the entire game), I was crushed by the ineptitude of the PAC 12 refs. I wrote a lengthy complaint letter, citing multiple poor calls/infractions. I demanded a response, of which none ever came. What a tragedy for a game to end like that.
Plus the 2 INTs by Hosley that were both called back on phantom PIs...but I digress.
Doug Rhoads, head of ACC officials, demanded an explanation and I don't think even he ever got one. "We had a better angle" was the official statement from the PAC 12. That was the last I heard.
I mean if "head up your ass" is a better angle then I've been looking at the game all wrong.
I've said this many times about a referee in many sports... I imagine it is quite dark in there.
We can make their record show how we think they're tops at 1 and 1.
Along those lines we could also make them #1 at turnovers, int's, fumbles, and sacks given up.
"How should the Hokies repay Ohio State for supporting VT in the past?"
Frank should take his foot off the gas in the 4th qtr and put in the backups. No need for a blowout.
By crushing their souls.
Ah good ol emperors new grove. That'll getcha a leg every time
Turkey leg right back atcha for getting that reference.
Win or lose, don't act like an ass, and this goes doubly for the game in Lane next year.
Living in Raleigh, had the misfortune of tailgating in the Carter-Finley lots the last time we played NC State down here. Those fans are arrogant, in your face pricks. Basically was just one lone 3 hour barrage of profanity and death threats for the audacity of wearing maroon in their lots. During the game (I didn't have tickets, but a few of my friends did) it was just as bad with a few fudgePACK blowhards getting tickets in the visitors section with the pure intention of acting like jackasses to each and every person there. And after the game, not a single word was said, of the brave few who remained, as those guys vanished like cockroaches in sunlight. Also heard numerous stories about car flags broken/ripped off cars, and a couple cars keyed. It created a miserable experience for just about everyone there (you know, except for the part where we all had a shit eating grin on our faces right as the clock went to 0:00 in the 4th).
Don't be like that.
If they kick our asses, make a point of going up to someone in red and saying good game. Treat them with respect and it'll go a very, very long way in helping to build our reputation as one of the better fanbases in the country. And when you get a reputation like that, bigger schools are more than willing to schedule home and homes against you in the future.
That's entirely accurate in the way that Pack fans treat all opponents. Well, except for ECU, where gunfights often occur in the parking lots. Pack fans are about as close to WVU fans as I've seen, and I got to observe them for over a decade. That being said, they're too stupid to think of innovative ways to toss feces & urine on opposing fans like 'eers. They're just knuckle dragging enough to constantly want to fight, with 4-5 other drunk fools at their back. This extends to both male & female opposing fans. To be clear, Pack fans have no problem physically harassing male or female guests. The best part of it all? NC State has been irrelevant in the ACC for about three decades now, maybe four. Want to live in the land of suck? Of constant 5-7/8-5 for decades on end? That's Wolfpack fan.
This may have already been posted, but Fox Sports has a great article about the gesture of OSU putting the VT logo on their helmets for their spring game. Quotes from Beamer, Tressel, Bill Roth, and others.
VT vs. OSU - Remembering the OSU Tribute
Treat them like East Carolina and schedule them 10 times in 14 years. Then repeat.
Do as many suggested, represent Tech well. I recall going to the Chick Fil-A bowl with my brother (also a Tech grad) when we played Tennessee. I wished many a Volunteer good luck (few reciprocated), and my brother asked why are you wishing them luck? I said because that's how we roll. Stay classy Hokies!
