We just got some love from the college game day crew! They still think we lose tonight but they respect our young talented guys.
So far, the coverage from ESPN has been largely positive, from last night's Pitt-BC halftime coverage, to the talk this morning. It's very realistic - we're not world-beaters just yet, but we have tons of talent and could surprise some people. Coupled with Urban Meyer saying nothing but complimentary things about our team and coaching staff, and it's very good for VT.

I just saw where the announced attendance at UVa today was 34.5K. Considering that we'll be playing in front of about 108.5K tonight, that means that you could overflow Lane Stadium with the additional (74K) spectators watching the Hokies in person. Other way to look at it? Over three times as many people. I hope someone reminds recruits of that.

Running game needs to improve, but Brewer seems to be getting more comfortable, and I like the matchups of Hodges/Malleck against their LBs. Jet sweep to Stanford worked nicely, so if we can get some blocking on the edge, we might be able to mix that in a bit.
Running game needs to do more than hammer into people. there are holes. We are not choosing the right ones. The first run by Williams was too lateral.
Precisely. Strength only matters when shedding blocks, not when running directly at the teeth of their D-line, which is their strength. We can beat them on agility and speed, but not strength.

1. We were starting to get to the QB.
2. They have not tried to run the ball much so be ready for more of that.
3. We have to be careful of deep shots.. Meyer as much as promised more shots. I would like to see the safeties and rovers more involved in pass defense. That is how to make a young QB make mistakes, Throwing against 1-on-1 CBs isn't.
4. Offensively, we need a better running game. It might be toss sweeps, quick hitters, getting the RBs involved in the running game.
5, Byrn and Malleck have been key. Need to see Knowles, Hodges, and Ford make some catches. And Stanford...
6. Pass protection is ok but we are rolling out and narrowing the field a lot.
7. We survived 3 straight possessions starting in bad field position.
VT needs to survive the first possession and then start aggressively burning the game. DOn't go into delay and don't just run the ball and get stuffed. But use the pass as a substitute for running. Short passes can be runs.
I don't know about number 3. Yes, Meyer knows they need to be able to throw and catch, but let's not pretend OSU is in terrible shape here.
If they can execute their base offense on their first drive of the 2nd half and get a TD, they are only one score back.
Now, if we stuff their first possession, and score another TD, we'll definitely be looking at that.
I agree that we don't like seeing them win these 1 on 1s, but he's only completed 4 passes so far. Yeah, be great to see some extra coverage back there to try to force a mistake, but he's shown he can make us pay on the ground.
So any extra coverage back there gives him extra room underneath to pick up good yards w/ his feet.
Ford and Stanford have both been making clutch catches. The drive when we were backed up in our own end zone.

Right now,...there are likely 10-12 drives left.... 5-6 per team depending on how many 3-and-outs or longer drives. If Ohio State is going to have 5-6 drives, we need to make sure they don't do much with more than 2 of them. The defense has to stop OSU for at least 4-5 drives while VT does something with some of their 5-6 drives. and no turnovers

I saw him playing deep middle late in the 1st half some. Devin Wilson likes to attack from the slot so having the center fielder cover him over the top will be a big help

The biggest crowd to watch a Virginia Tech game, 107,517. Also the biggest crowd ever at Ohio Stadium. And the Hokies could be heard throughout the game. My section was going nuts on every defensive play. Urban Meyer's first loss at home as head coach at Ohio State. Monumental game.
