VT Hokies is a top 10 team

After beating the number 8 team in the country convincingly in their home field, there is no way Virginia tech stays unranked. there is plenty of mistakes to be corrected but I will go as far as to say right now Virginia tech is a top 10 team. GO HOKIES.

DAMN STRAIGHT WE ARE.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I'm going with 23rd in the nation. Let's go!!!!

I said earlier...19.

This was so important for our program.

Anybody think OSU will still be ranked ahead of us though?

Yes until they lose again....They are over ranked and they will lose a couple more times...Not a dig just fact.

A new season...new hope

BOOO! I'm high on winning right now. Let's just assume everything in life is amazing and good.

Everything is awesome!

in Fuller we trust

I've listened to this at least 3 times since saturday.

The Lonely Island version?

I would say top 15-20. OSU unranked

I'd have to look at how everyone else did, but top 15 at least..... you know we won't get full credit because they'll say OSU was missing Miller

Yeah, I've already gotten that from a few of my relatives in Ohio. What kills me though is how all of the ESPN guys were talking about how J.T. Barrett was just as good so it didn't matter, and now they're saying the opposite, rather than giving us any credit. They're always going to try to find a way to ignore anything good Virginia Tech ever does.

Hopefully. Means we'll make the playoffs. Lol.

I think we jump into the teens. The question is does anOSU fall out of the rankings at 1-1? Do they stay ranked above us. I have seen that happen before.

I swear I don't think I ever remember a game as nerve wrecking as this!!!!! Im soooo friggin' happy!!!!!!

TN_Hokie

This was all the Georgia Tech games rolled into one. It didn't look like they could move the ball, but it was close enough that one bad thing could break the damn. And then the damn broke, but Michael Brewer but his gigantic brass balls in and plugged the hole.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

A new season...new hope

Always a great day 2 be a HOKIE , but today is especially sweet! Osu should not be ranked inside top 25.

georgebd

Yep, hopefully we will jump up about 20 spots or so, while THE drops about that many!!!!

TN_Hokie

guys, we were ranked 38th before this game. JUST WIN. Funny how the rankings will ultimately take care of themselves.

"How you doin', Randy?"

I can't put us in the Top Ten, even with the victory. I am convinced we'll be Top 15, maybe Top 12. Probably Top 15. What WILL happen is that OhSTate will certainly fall out of the Top 20. Maybe even out of the Top 25. They shouldn't have been Top Ten even with Braxton Miller, and should have been about 20th, based on their play tonight and last week. That's okay, though. The record books will show we defeated a Top Ten team in their house, and convincingly so. I'll take that any time.

I was convinced that we were better, and most others probably are too, but I wouldn't call that a convincing win. It's easy to forget how close we were to a letdown.

"How you doin', Randy?"

I'm sorry, but how was that not convincing?

In Sam Rogers we trust.

If you have watched the Hokies long enough, you'd know how close we ALWAYS are to heartbreak. No game, when tied in the 4th quarter, is a convincing win.

I know, I almost lost all hope after OSU tied it up. But the Hokies responded in front of the loudest crowd in OSU history to win by 2 TDs. If that isn't convincing after all the heartbreaks, then I don't know what is.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I think the factor that made it convincing for me is that - being as objective as possible - we controlled the entire game. From start to finish, we set the tone. When they did score, we answered them almost immediately every time. When they got off a big play on offense, they never got points as a result. We crushed them in the red zone, and they couldn't answer our scores. To me that is a convincing win. A 2TD win in The Horseshoe is convincing to me.

Much more importantly...

THEY. NEVER. LED.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

And nobody would have guessed that before the game.

Not convincing? Going into the Shoe in front of 107k fans and beating Urban Meyer for the first time?
Definitely convincing....

ee

anOSU goes to about 20, we jump up to 15-17, and for the love of all that is good and holy in the world, we had better both be ranked above UNCheat after those guys totally sucked for a second straight week.

"Exit light..."

Definitely after second week of a last second win for UNC. I am not as worried about them now as I was during the preseason.

thas ok

We still beat te, on SAT dcores.

I wish I was this drunk.

This is why there should be no rankings until the 5th week. We have looked amazing so far though

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

Here's my prediction...anOSU will still be ranked ahead of us.

Not deserved, just predicting.

On to the first of the directional Carolinas.

They gave S. Carolina a fit so don't take them easy.

Yes, they did. They can move the ball.

But I will say that their first two offensive drives came up short, only got a total of six from both efforts. And also USCe's defense is atrocious right now. At least according to every person here.

No they won't. They will get punished more than we're rewarded, though. I don't see any way they stay in the Top 20. I also think we won in a way that will make people say - 'Hey! Virginia Tech is BACK, baby!'

Well, they might not actually say that, but they'll put us above OhState.

Not even aOSU can deny pussy touchdowns. Therefore, VT > aOSU.

OSU will likely drop to 23 ish and we will probably sit around #15

Logan 3:16

Doesn't matter. Just win baby! ACC champ is still the goal!

What a fantastic game.
Some mistakes but, no drop off in play.
Imagine these guys next year.

How many times have I said we have a NCG run in 2015?
Yeah buddy, we're on track.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Why wait?

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

STICK IT IN Army of Virginia Tech

Fosterball

Well, we should be ahead of Ohio St. I'm guessing 17th

I cant wait for French to break down Bucky Hodges dancing. the guy knows how to celebrate.

Allen Ox

I was cheering the Hokies on with one other Hokie in Chicago. The whole bar was Ohio State. We took it over tho! Best hokie win ever

"Worst part of the game 'experience' for me was that for an entire quarter and the beginning part of halftime the VT fans were dominating the Shoe. Kudos to them. Made me sick." - Ohio State Fan

Realistically, I think we'll be 20-25 (hopefully 15-25) with OSU still ranked ahead of us around 15-20. Do I want to be ranked high yet, of course but I don't see us going from like 30s to top 10 even top 15.

Homerism, VIRGINIA TECH NUMBER ONE BABY

Remember that time kysheon got 2 picks and was amazing?

Was that the same game where he laid a dude out with a block on a punt return?

in Fuller we trust

Yeah, that's the game Rogers got his first TD.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Only two top-25 teams lost (Ohio State, Stanford) I'm thinking we'll be 20-25 range.

its not always all about win. when you stunk the place like UNC did, you've got to get dropped in the ranking.

Allen Ox

Yeah especially early in the season like this I agree, will be interesting to see.

Remember, UCLA dropped several spots just for beating the hoos by a close score. And technically UVa is a Power 5 conference member. Technically.

Michigan State lost too.

If they are still ranked after the close win against Navy and the loss to us, it will be a joke and a half.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

We're not a Top 10 team..... yet.

Beat ECU this week, and the schedule sets itself up beautifully for us to roll into the UNC game unbeaten, and win that game and running the table to the ACC Championship game is by no means out of the question. Just keep winning and the rankings will take care of itself.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

It's a long season and we will be getting everyone's best shot from here on out. I'm really hoping they can keep this team focused from week to week because if they can, this could be a really special year.

At the least we should definitely be ahead of:

North Carolina
Nebraska
South Carolina
UCLA
Ohio State

I'd put us around 15, and we should drift into the top ten by the end of the season. If we beat FSU.... PLAYOFFS!

saying we're not a top 10 team or whatever at this point, I get the need to dampen expectations. But this kinda reminds me of saying, "I may be fat but you're ugly and I can diet." Our team will get better EVERY week this season.

just as well, maybe the coaching staff can use if for motivation to avoid a letdown this week

That poll is always screwed up. Look how far they dropped Stanford for losing an extremely close away game to an equally ranked opponent. The consolation is they have us ranked finally. The rub is they put us conveniently behind the team we beat in their own house ending all their streaks while leading them the entire game.

The press poll will be more fair. Even if not, we beat OhState in their house.

Yea, I don't read much into it. Just shaking my head. Early season polls mean little. Nice to see a bit of recognition for what we've done.

Also nice to see:
1. UNC dropping a couple spots after being totally crappy for the first two weeks.
2. We are ranked ahead of Clemson for the first time since...2011?

"Exit light..."

Except the preseason poll. That means way too much

Stanford looked BAD on offense, at home. 6 (or 7?) red zone trips and only 13 points? I think it is deserved.

it's unjust, and we all saw it coming. Life is humorous.

I alternate between acceptance and annoyance. I'll say this: how would the game had gone if we magically had 108,000 fans in Lane for a night game :)

Would've been much louder than their 108K.

Ridiculous, once again, VT loses the beauty contest that is polling.

VTCC '86 Delta Co., Peru Hokie, Former Naval Aviator, Former FBISA, Forever married to my VT87 girl. Go VT!

Am I reading that poll right -- in the Hi/Low column, it says some coach has OSU at 6th on his ballot?

I think whatever team has this person for a coach should probably look into getting a new coach.

ETA: strike all that. I tried reading for comprehension, and it werks:

*Hi/Low Rankings
Hi/Low = The highest and lowest ranking each team has held during the designated season. Any team that starts the season unranked and/or falls out of the top 25 during the season will reflect a "NR" (not ranked) designation as its lowest rank.

No, that means they peaked at 6th this season - i.e. on week 1. They've steadily fallen since.

"Exit light..."

I hope they don't rank is too high. We need the proverbial chip on our shoulders. ECU is no cakewalk.

They will test Buds D a bit more.

Gobble Gobble!

AP Poll is not going to be updated until 2:00 PM. You're looking at last week's.

"Exit light..."

Yeah thought that was weird. They shouldn't update the W/L column. Freaked me out.

Gobble Gobble!

Depends on the site you visit for the rankings. Some do things asynchronously like that and it really is confusing.

"Exit light..."

We're 17th, OSU is 22nd!

I don't know if anyone has said this, but rankings don't matter anymore. Everything is based on the committee now anyway.

Rip his freaking head off!

And after Pat Haden's actions in the Stanford game, the integrity of that committee is in question, not that it wasn't before.
