We're Back

Another long time reader taking the plunge with a post. This ESPN blurb caught my eye reading the game story: Welcome back, Virginia Tech. (see the side bar promoting the Austin Ward story)

Welcome back, Virginia Tech. That sounds nice after the last two seasons of frustrating football.

Im a longtime fan, Class of 82 and a fan long before that. Many highs and lows in years of following Hokie football.
The pinnacle was reaching a national championship game when one Michael Vick was under center. More importantly (for me anyway), with MV7 we never felt like we couldnt win a game. Even when trailing. On the road at a tough place to play (some of you remember the play from a November game in Morgantown). Coming back against FSU in the Sugar Bowl. We always knew that MV7 and our offense could win the game for us.

Weve had other great quarterbacks since then, but Im not sure weve had that same mojo and confidence. That no problem, weve got this attitude. Even TTs comeback against Nebraska was more a feeling of relief than ok, got another one.

Last night our offense was back. Michael Brewer shook off a fumble that lead to OSU tying the game by very calmly leading a touchdown drive. Great response by the offense and the type of offensive play that has been sorely missing.

Brewer last night made plays that counted, when we needed them, regardless of what the final stats looked like. Another thing I remember about MV7. Just win, baby. And this quote about Brewer gives me all sorts of confidence about this team and this offense: "He's tough," said fullback Sam Rogers said. "I have complete trust in him." An offense with a leader they believe in.

Last night was a great win and a great celebration for Hokie Nation. Coaches were prepared in all phases of the game. The team played with poise and with passion. Time to get back to work and make it a stepping stone for a special season.

Well said my friend.....and welcome to the greatest web site the world has ever seen!

"Some people think football is a matter of life and death....... I assure you, it's MUCH more serious than that" ...Bill Shankly

Very nicely stated. You're right about Brewer, he probably won't have the glossiest of stats during this season, but he is the team's unquestioned leader, and he proved that last night. Time after time, he was HAMMERED by the OhState D and just got right back up, calm and cool. He kept thew offense collected and focused throughout. He's the kind of leader whose real worth cannot be measured in stats alone.

One more note - qchokie, I can't give you a leg of approval for your opening post because of the format of the site not being set up to do that. I will absolutely give you one if you merely post a comment on your own thread. Any comment. For example - Go Hokies! Thanks for the very solid opening post!

I think Brewer's stats will look good by the end of the season. He's still learning the Loeffler offense, the reads, etc., so he'll get better game-by-game. Furthermore, VT won't play a defense this good until the ACCCG. (assuming VT gets there)
You're definitely spot on about leadership, he has that IT factor.
