After dominating the Ohio State Buckeyes in their home field, ESPN is changing its tune by putting the Virginia Tech Hokies in the NCAA playing picture. While it is great to be in the playoff conversation, the Hokies are better off focusing on the next game instead of listening to the hype.

Is Virginia Tech in the Play-Off Picture?

If we win games, yes.
Just win the games. We keep winning, everything else will take care of itself.
Forget secespn. Focus and play one game at a time.2 wins do not make a good season, ask coach Fondue.
anyone else notice that if we call him Fondue Mike London, we can just shorten that to Coach FML? I think that's pretty fitting
Also that game against UCLA isn't looking great right now after they scraped by Memphis this week as well....
Before I get the required "Take it one week at a time comment", let me say that as a player that is the way to think, but as a fan, I'm gonna enjoy being in the spotlight again. Please file this comment in the "Way to early" bin if you so wish because I'll admit, it is way to early to talk about this buuuuuut....
VT has to go undefeated and beat FSU (probably) in the ACCCG to make the playoff. Doable? Yes. But there are lots of hurdles we have to jump along the way even before getting to the Noles. But it's hard to think that we wouldn't have a chance against FSU after watching the game this week. We won't get in with one loss, regardless of when and who it comes to. Our schedule and conference just isn't strong enough.
So hey, let's keep this role going with ECU.
I do agree... But at the same time, the fanbase also needs to completely take it on a 'the next game is our biggest'. We need Lane Stadium to be at a fever pitch all game every game from here on out. This team has earned us going batshit crazy for them from here on out, and we need to deliver on it. We can think 'oh yeah, it would totally be awesome to be undefeated going against an undefeated FSU in Charlotte', but that doesn't happen if we don't win this week, and as fans, we need to do everything we can to make Lane Stadium the kind of environment that gives us a significant home field advantage again.
Oh yeah! Gotta win your next game to stay alive. Just saying that sometimes people get really defensive when we look ahead and go all "one week at a time" on us. It is fun to look ahead and think what could be and generally discuss how the entire college football landscape is developing.
I'd like to add to that that the last two seasons have really taught me how much sweeter a season is to take it one game at a time. If we want to talk about "Hey, I think the rest of this season is doable" then sure, go for it. But I really don't want to talk about bowl elligibility or playoff elligibility until we have atained them. I just want to look forward to the next game, and really hope we win.
Looking ahead to other games makes it really hurt when your team loses games you don't feel like they should.
Can we have this discussion in November? Been a Hokie fan too long to start prognosticating after Week 2
The playoffs started when the season began. The playoffs are now and every week.
Funny how the beginning of the article mentions how ESPN has treated us lately up until this game (From an afterthought..). Also funny how this article ignores the fact that the ACC has a conference championship game and that the Coastal winner will most likely face a team that beat an SEC team in the NCG, ensuring that if we run the table we would have beaten two Top-10 teams and have a resume that would speak for itself.
While it's convenient for ESPN to alter their narrative, it has to still be one game at a time.
With a hotly contested recruiting battle going on for the state top recruits, its good to get some sugar from SEC-Loving ESPN.
Whoa!!! Pump the breaks there son!!! Let's win the next game, then the next game, then the next one.... I don't even want to talk about this right now. I say look at it like a pitcher who has a chance at a perfect game. Don't talk about it, just let him do his thing. Just let our Hokies do their thing and win. We can talk about the playoffs ad nauseam once we get there.

Technically, this early in the season, everyone's still in the playoff picture. Even the 0-2 teams could run the table, and somehow make it if this turns into a 2007-like season.
But right now, there are only three types of teams: undefeated, completely defeated, or 1-1.
Ask again in December. I love that we as fans, and CFB got a signature win on the road!! We celebrated saturday night/sunday morning but it's time to move on.. It's like Reavis said on twitter, "We didn't shock the world, we showed the world"
I don't look at our schedule and think every game is winnable. ECU will knock the hell out of you if you're not careful and Pitt is scaring the shit out of me right now. It's a long season and our boys are bruised and banged up already. We need to treat this like a one game season every week!!
I just hope the coaches remember to bring their safety pins to work this week. Gotta pop those bubbles. This team needs to remember that if they don't bring it this Sat when a pretty dang good ECU comes to town, last Sat doesn't mean squat.
These are the same Pirates that destroyed UNC last year, just gave SC a scare in Columbia last week, and arguably should have beaten the Hokies last year.
The Hokies just went from being hunters to hunted. If they can make that transformation with the help of good coaching, they'll be alright.
if this team can show up and pound ECU into the ground at a home nooner, i'll start to get a little more excited. i've just lived through too many trap games and other bad/let-down losses.
if we can only manage to squeak by them (or god forbid lose), then even the coastal division will remain a big question mark for me. it's a long season, and we can't dwell on tOSU. we need to build off of it!
I had a feeling people would start talking playoffs after the OSU win. I think its way to premature to start talking playoffs. Lets enjoy the spot light while it last but at the same time, soley focus on the next game in hand. ECU is no joke, and this "playoff talk" could easily go away this Saturday if we don't show up and play down to the competition like we have in the past. If we are 6-0 or 7-0, then I think we can rev up the engines and start thinking about playoffs. Until then.... #BeatECU
If we run it and meet and beat an undefeated FSU team, we will end their 26 game winning streak. No way we wouldn't get in. Stopping the two longest running winning streaks in the same season
I'm watching College Football Daily, we'll see what they say... We're about 10 minutes in and while they're showing all of our highlights, they're just talking about what a bad day the Big 10 had and how good they think Oregon is. You know how it goes.
I knew how this would go three months ago.
